Thanks for starting a Fan Fest for them! Also I knew about Chelsea previously skating with Brian Johnson but didn't know that Danny previously skated with Jessica Calalang. Appreciate learning more about them!

Here is Chelsea and Danny's SP from Glacier Falls, which is showing so much promise and excitement.

I can't stop watching this, over and over. I can't get over how freed up Danny looks, and so happy; he's just smiling in nearly every moment of this program. Kudos X 3 to Adam Rippon for choreographing this. Chelsea looks happy too, in a way that's understated, comparatively, but perfectly complementary to Danny. Her face is just like a pixie or something; she has this barely contained, almost elusive humor and happiness.

As much as people have preached at US Pairs that they should stick with one partner, I am so happy that these two were able to come together. I don't think Danny would ever have simply split with Tarah. From Tarah's interview with Masha, it sounds like Danny was just at such a low point that he felt retirement was his only option. Thank goodness, through the efforts of who-knows-what or who-knows-who, including a fairy godmother or two and a liberal sprinkling of fairy dust, this partnership came about.

Well, since the Fan Fests are places where we can all come to gush over whomever we please, here I am! ❤️

(not forgetting that they elected not to perform their FS there.) I think Chelsea is showing stronger with the jumps in each outing, and she's really working to get the throw landings. That can be such a challenge, to match techniques and power balance with a new partner. It seems to me that the man's throw has to have such a delicate balance to it: forceful enough to get her high and far, and gentle enough that she can land it. Here's Lover.

ETA: I just noticed, Again. Looking at the thumbnail for Chelsea/Danny's SP, how beautiful their lines are. They have exactly the same knee bend, in spite of the difference in their sizes. And when they skate, they've got the same rhythm in them. So lovely, it makes the simplest moves spellbinding.

So happy someone created the fanfest for them!! I rarely like to watch pair skating as I feel nervous for the pair when they do those crazy moves...but I stumble upon their SP clip on OIP and I love it. That clip feels so much joy and their moves are so in sync...it just feel like their music!

yes, she still struggle some jumps and throw landing but I just feel happy watching them skate that I haven’t felt for pair skating in a long time. Can’twait for cranberry Open

I was lucky enough to meet Danny’s dad in the stands and literally randomly started talking about Danny for some unknown reason. Well he started the conversation asking about Gracie’s stuffie but for some reason I started talking about Danny. I had no idea he was Danny’s dad. He said he was from Colorado, hey I don’t think that’s so strange, I drove here from St Louis. It was a 3 day drive, he says, and he went through St Louis. So then I’m like oh I’m so glad Danny has a great new partner and he looks so happy. Told him I asked Danny if his head got cold and he said he wore a hat. He points Danny out across the arena walking on his hands and asks if I have his autograph. Oh yes I say, I got it at the FOFS breakfast. So then I get up to leave and Seven Sisters comes along. I introduced her. Apparently she has more sense than I do and asked if he was related to a skater at which point he confessed to being Danny’s dad. She said she didn’t think he wanted to say.
I’m just glad I randomly started talking about Danny.

Wow that’s cool! Did he said anything about new partnership?

FSO got a quote of him saying he has so much fun that he didn’t feel like work at all. So I’m glad we aren’t the only one seeing his happiness glow in this new partnership.

Chelsea and Danny did okay in cranberry but I have to keep reminding myself that they are still new :) some of the timing seems off on Chelsea in SP but I still love for their lifts and step sequence.

since I’m n00b here in GS, does score in Cranberry count as PB/SB scores?

thanks!

I did not know he was Danny’s father til he was gone. Pretty sure they count as SB/PB. I know skaters can make Worlds, CC tech minimums and some did.

Really surprise that Chelsea and Danny are top 5 finish for SP at Warsaw Cup- top American pairs too! I think this is their SB (and Chelsea’s PB) for SP.

Hope they nail in the LP!

Side note: newbie question here, I see a lot of pairs in Warsaw do 3T as sbs, do you think Chelsea and Danny should do 3T instead of 3S? It’s only .1 BV difference but if they can be more consistent, wouldn’t it be better?

I haven't seen the replay - but based on the GS forum, twitter - it seems a bad fall for both Danny and Chelsea :(. I am praying that they will take all the time in the world to make sure they are okay and recover before thinking about the next competition and/or National.

I would be very surprised if they aren't out for the rest of the season, if not more. How I hope I'm wrong. Someone posted in the pairs thread an update tweet that they both have concussions and are being monitored.

My heart breaks for them.

I agree that they should be out for the season but I was just worry that as athletes they always think about their next competition — especially since they are a new team. I just hope their team and coaches understand the potential issues and make them just rest for the rest of the season than to rush to a return.

I originally hoping that they would do 4cc - cuz that will give them more world points for next season.

Hoping they are healthy and getting better.

The last news I saw was that they were both resting at the hotel. Concussions are odd things. One can recover quickly or it can take longer. I’ve been concussed in my teenage sport of Equestrian. It wasn’t taken as seriously back then.

I've been DM'ing with Chelsea via IG for a couple of months now, and I messaged her that I would pass on any news of how they're doing, if she felt up to answering.

She wrote back to say thank you to everyone for their love, prayers and well wishes. She said that they were planning to fly home today (following the team doctor's orders to delay their flight one day) so that they can rest, recover and see their doctors back home. They've both had head injuries before, and they'll "try to figure out the best plan of action for both of us to return to full health."

And later: "Health and safety is our number one priority and we will be sure to get the help we need to recover."

So it sounds to me like their priorities are in the right place. I hope the flight isn't too hard on them. I hope they have plenty of friends and family who can help them out so that they can rest, but also so that they don't get lonely. I recall Gabriella Papadakis saying that was one of the issues for her, along with and worsening the depression that came with her concussion.

Thank you for the update. Since they both live in the same area can’t they hang out together? (For purposes of not being lonely).

I hope so. I hope they'll both, together or not, have several people popping in to say hello and help out. I know how hard it is to allow yourself to completely rest, when you're accustomed to being very active.

Newbie question here: is it possible to send them a care package of some sort since we are near holidays? I know most athletes might not want to give out their personal info (with good reasons) but can fans send the package to the great park rinks so they can pick it up?

I had always heard this was a no no but apparently Roman Sadovsky has said in videos “if you want to get something to a skater send it to their rink.” I was just going to send cards.

Update on Chelsea and Danny: They did fly home on the Sunday after their injury. Chelsea rested and spent time with family over the Thanksgiving week/week-end. She said she and Danny are both struggling with concussion symptoms.

As a summary, that sounds bleak, but overall, Chelsea sounds upbeat and thankful. She's limiting screen time, but that's a challenge with finals over the next couple of weeks. She said, 'It’s very heartwarming to know how much people care about our health and well-being and not just our “success” as athletes.'
