Coal Miners Trapped in West Virginia.

I visit mulitple news websites daily, including non-U.S. sites. All of those sites, including the non-U.S. ones, have at least someting about this tragedy. I just checked in for the latest. It seems that they still have not been rescued.

I grew up in eastern Kentucky. Some strip mining took place in my area, but we mostly refined the coal. There were stacks of coal everywhere and at every factory. Or so it seemed. The pollution just seemed to hang in the air. Going home only once per year, one tends to forget things like that.

My great grandfather was a coal miner who had his back crushed in the mines way before I was born. It is such a dangerous job...at that time they were payed the grand sum of $1.00/day. The first day I worked in the E.R. we received victims from a mining roof fall. I will never forget that day as long as I live. The entire E.R. including the locker rooms had coal dust everywhere and for weeks we would still find it in places. One of the miners who was still alive when they arrived had his head from the crown to right above his eyebrows crushed. You could actually see his brain. he lived for a couple of hours. Our politicians are in bed with the coal companies so the chance of better safety measures being legislated are nil.

My g'pa was a coal miner (among other jobs) in GrassValley/Nevada City, CA.... I've never heard any horror stories... but I love visiting the old mine when I go...

Is there anything more recent on the miners? I guess I could always turn on MSNBC

about 2 hours ago on MSNBC they were still talking about the possibility of there being survivors in a pocket of oxygen, but I couldn't keep watching it's too gut wrenching for me
