Seiji Fukushi on instagram:

I finally got to give Daisuke the CD of "Phoenix", the single released after "Fukushi Seiji" was released!
I've wanted to give it to him for ages.
I was so touched that he was so happy.
I really love him.
And I also got to give it to Ohno Takuro, who played Tokio in the Tokio Kakeru duo!
They're truly like phoenixes.
I hope this song will fly high into the sky too.

For context:

Seiji is not only a stage actor, he is also an artist, who releases his own music (and with the project "MISSION"). A while ago he released a single called "Phoenix - Fire and Ice", which he said was inspired by Daisuke* and which is why he longed to give him a copy. Apparently Seiji talked about his involvement in the latest Hyoen production and the inspiration behind aforementioned single in a podcast/radio talkshow:

https://twitter.com/D1SK000/status/1801622526482911531

Listen to Seiji Fukushi's live streaming archive! #Radiotalk
We visited Seiji Fukushi's live streaming. He talked a lot about Hyoen in extension after extension. Not only about Daisuke, but also about Koshiro and Tomono.
His new single 'Phoenix' was written with Daisuke in mind.

Here is a snippet of the song - imo it's pretty cool!

* The phoenix has been a recurring theme in Dai's later career. He skated to Fall Out Boy's song "The Phoenix" in his second year after he came back to competitions and also had the "Phénix" number in "Hyoen - Luxe", which was accompanied by gorgeous projection mapping (a fiery phoenix appears at the end, soaring over the ice and the audience). It is said to stand for Dai's "rebirth"/renaissance in his second career that helped him recover from the emotional crisis he went through during retirement. The figure skating novel "Phoenix on Ice" by sports journalist Yoshiyuki Komiya (published in 2020) was also inspired by Dai's return to competitive skating.

This fan summarized what Seiji said about Daisuke playing Kakeru:

Dai with floor choreographer avecoo:

This is what he wrote about Dai-chan and the process of creating part of the choreo for the show (his "struggles" sound a lot like those that Yuma Suzuki went through when she choreographed for "Kassouya"):

The leader of this company is
Dai-chan, also known as Daisuke Takahashi.
@d1sk_t
I truly believe that it was because of the leader that I was able to see so many different scenes with this company. I'm really glad I met him.
I was worried about how to express the floor choreography on ice... right up until the start of rehearsals. But I knew that the reason I was called this time was because they needed a floor choreography taste, so I just thought about that and created it like I always do without thinking about ice. (Just between you and me, I decided not to look at the figure skating at all, because I would be confused lol)
I'm sure there were some difficult parts of the leg movements from the rehearsals, but the leader said we should do them all, and I was really helped by him.
I really love the leader who is relied on and loved by everyone!

Eliana shared this video of her skating progress during the Hyoen camp. She's amazing, I didn't realize that she learned so much as she didn't get to showcase all of her skills in the show. She can even do a very decent basic spiral! (Kai and Takuro did pretty well too!) 😲

Eliana (who said in the NHK "Face to face" documentary/interview that she had been a longtime figure skating fan) also shared a picture of herself when she came to one of the Art on Ice Japan shows in 2013 when Dai, Shizuka and Akiko were part of the cast:

So, from what I understood from the caption and Dai's response, this wasn't just for Hyoen rehearsals, it was 'training for active duty' - basically Dai participated in the boys' training session for competition!

On a different note, I saw Japanese fans mentioning that Dai used effectively the same wording that Kazuki said to him - 'I'll follow you for the rest of my life' - as part of the response to Seiji Fukushi's IG post. So fans were saying that Dai was probably very happy to receive Kazuki's words and is now passing them forward to Seiji, who is someone he really admires. That's really cute ☺️

You could be onto something! :)

Koshiro posted a Hyoen insta-reel (unfortunately the sound has been deactivated), including a brief clip of the boys and Dai skating in line while holding hands followed by the photo originally posted by Kosho, so it seems that the clip was taken at the referenced session:

For me Kosho’s original text either translates to

“In-service practice with too much luxury time.”

or

“Too much luxury time in active practice.”

or

“A luxurious training session.”

So imo he could either mean that they had some spare time during the Hyoen camp that they used to practice for competitions or that it was a luxury to have Dai with them on this particular session (whether it was for competition or for the show). The picture and the clip from Koshiro’s reel were taken at the MGC Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Ice Arena in Niigata where the Hyoen camp started, so this must have taken place in May.

Dai’s response was:

“So much fun. Thanks for mixing it up!”

I suppose what he could mean is “thank you for allowing me to practice with you.”

Yes, they seem to have a strong bond, seeing how Seiji is one of the people Dai stayed in contact with after working with him on previous Hyoen productions (like he did with Yuma Suzuki, Ayaka Hirahara and Kazuki Namioka). It's really lovely to see how the cast get on so well and new lasting friendships seem to be forged at each Hyoen production. 🥰 And as we could see this connection came in handy when a new acting instructor was needed asap after Kikunojo Onoue had taken over directing duties.

Btw, in his reply Dai also referenced the phoenix:

“Thank you. 😊 I will move forward like a phoenix to flap my wings again and again! I will follow Seiji-san for the rest of my life!”

Dai-chan and Kiki – the second slide is a video of Kiki crying backstage in Dai's and Marie's company at the beginning of the last day 🥹:

This is her explanation why she cried ❤️:

At the morning practice on the last day of Hyoen.
Kakeru-sama in leopard print jersey and ❤️
Too cool!
I'll follow you all the way, Dai-chan!
Let me explain the video,
The morning before the last day of practice,
Coffee ☕︎ time as usual in the catering and I was reading the brochure.
What? That's the end of the day? I was so sad.
I mean, the off shot at the back of the brochure?
I looked at the off shot at the back of the pamphlet and saw the actors practising at the beginning of the show, and the two back-to-back shots of TokiKake with their best smiles and the serious faces of the production.
And on the rink, Kazuki @k0515ki-kun is practicing for the show.
I love "Till My Life Ends".
He was practicing my favorite song "Till My Life Ends" and it was playing from the speakers,
I cried because it was playing on the speakers.
@manmarumarie.
“You’re crying so much! It's early! It's the first time you've cried before the show has even started!" she said while filming 😆

@d1sk_t
"It was fun, wasn't it✨" he said and cried with me 😆🥺🙇🏻‍♀️
Sorry for the trouble in the morning 🙇🏻‍♀️
Once again, thank you Utako-sensei🙇🏻‍♀️✨
And thank you to all the teachers who have brought me up until now!
I want to keep skating until my life is over!
I will live my life to the fullest!

Of course it made you cry lol I laughed and cried too lol We were crying the whole time on the last day lol

Daisuke Takahashi to appear in film for the first time, playing the curator of the Kurashiki film production 'The City of Warehouses'.
Kurashiki City
Daisuke Takahashi
The executive committee for the film "The City of Warehouses," set in Kurashiki City and set for release in July 2025, announced on the 16th that former world figure skating champion and Kurashiki native Daisuke Takahashi (38) will star in the film. This will be his first time acting in a film, and he will play a curator at a local art museum who becomes the protagonist's confidant.
Takahashi accepted the offer in order to promote a film with ties to his hometown. He commented, "I'm nervous about acting in a film, but I'm aiming for a film that will energize everyone," as he will have many scenes and lines to appear in. Takahashi, who won a bronze medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the first gold medal for a Japanese man at the World Championships, announced his second retirement in May last year. He is currently active in ice shows and other activities.
The film is directed and written by Hiramatsu Emiko (57), a film director from the city. It depicts high school students who rush to set off fireworks from Mount Tsurugata in the scenic area to encourage a friend who is a young carer.
Other cast members have also been announced, including rakugo performer Hayashiya Shozo and actors Mizumoto Kanako (both from Kurashiki) and Horie Kazuki (from Mimasaka), and the two who will play the lead high school students will be announced on July 16th. Local actors Megumi and Maeno Tomoya have already been confirmed to appear in the film.

Daisuke Takahashi makes his film debut and takes on his first acting challenge, playing a museum curator related to the main character in a film set in his hometown of Kurashiki City.
[17 Jun 2024, 5:01 am]
Daisuke Takahashi tries his hand at acting in the film 'The City of Warehouses', set in his hometown of Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.
[...]
On 16 June, it was learned that professional figure skater Daisuke Takahashi (38) will take on the challenge of acting in the film 'The City of Warehouses' (scheduled for release in summer 2025), which is set in his hometown of Kurashiki City, Okayama.
He accepted an offer from Emiko Hiramatsu, 57, a director from the same city who has worked as assistant director and co-writer on many of Yoji Yamada's (1992) films. He decided to make his first appearance in a film, saying: 'In this milestone year of 30 years since I started skating, I have decided to take on a new challenge." he said of his decision to appear in a film for the first time. Filming will take place in Kurashiki from late July to August, and it will be the first movie ever shot entirely in Kurashiki and aimed for a nationwide release. Takahashi is enthusiastic, saying, "Above all, I feel a strong connection to the fact that the film is set in Kurashiki, where my roots lie."
[...]
Director Hiramatsu offered actors from Okayama Prefecture and Kurashiki City to appear in the film. Among them, it was Takahashi who came to the forefront of her mind. 'When he started his career as a professional figure skater, I happened to see an interview with him on TV, and I got a very good feeling from it. The way he answered was soft and sincere. The difference between his crisp appearance on the ice was also fascinating".
When the first draft of the script was being written, the casting of the adult who would be the protagonist's high school student's adviser had been a problem, "As soon as I saw the interview with Mr Takahashi, I thought, 'Here he is!", and the image she was looking for in an actor to play the role matched that of Mr Takahashi. 'Mr Takahashi is an athlete, but I thought of figure skaters as expressive people and a kind of artist, so I could easily picture him as an actor. I had no hesitation in making the offer on Takahashi's part. The time between when I handed over the script and when I received the answer 'OK' was very short. So I think it was almost an instant decision."
In the film, Takahashi plays the role of a museum curator who becomes a consultant for Ao Namba and his friends, high school boys who are struggling to set off fireworks in Kurashiki City. Before his first appearance in a film, he said: 'After finishing my competitive career, I have tried various forms of entertainment, including ice shows. This time, I have a lot of anxiety about acting in a film, but I saw it as a chance to discover a new me and decided to act in the film. I am determined to make a film that will enliven the lives of everyone who sees it, with the help of director Hiramatsu, the staff and all the actors."

Cross-posting from Kazuki's Fan Fest:
The second series of unpublished photos from the magazine featuring Daisuke Takahashi and Kazuki Tomono are now available for viewing.

A lot of solo shots of Daisuke Takahashi and Kazuki Tomono, who have been photographed with their cool eyes. The two of them have deepened their bond after the #Kassouya and #Hyoen2024. See the long conversation in [magazine] issue to hear about their encounter, turning points, and the future they envision for themselves!

They explain that the reason why they have so much content from this photoshoot is because they are both very experienced, so they finished what they needed to do early, which left them plenty of time for extra shots.

I guess they are 'drip-feeding' the content because they want to maximise the exposure generated by 'Hyoen', and now FaOI (in which Kazuki is performing). Makes sense from a marketing perspective!

It may be viewed as a PR tactics but it also allows fans more time to appreciate, and less time without anything; and casual passers-by a higher probability of getting something, than would a massive release at once of just the same photos and videos.

Help, we’ve fallen behind with the Dai news again! You'd think, now that he's retired he would be less busy, but there have been news almost every other day. :drama:

Anyway, here's update number one (I hope to be able to post the rest tomorrow):

This year’s All-Japan junior national training camp is going to be partially financed via Japan’s tax donor/hometown tax system (furusato nozei)*. There are four different plans with different benefits – one of the two 20,000 yen plans and the 120,000 yen plan include admission (as a spectator) to a training session led by Daisuke (the difference between the two plans is that the 120,000 yen plan includes a seat in the front row and a fan meeting with the junior skaters. ETA: The120,000 yen plan also includes admission for 2 persons and accommodation at one of the hotels in the vicinity while the 20,000 yen plan is for 1 person and includes a ticket for the Senshu Onsen hot spring at Aqua Ignis Kansai Airport.)

As most people reading here probably know, the All-Japan training camps are held for both junior and senior skaters (almost) every year (in recent years they have always been held at the Kanku Ice Arena, which is the designated national training center), but I think this is the first time the camp is open to spectators and offers a fan meeting as a benefit of the hometown tax system. [And of course – as always – I’m seeing Dai antis deliberately spreading misinformation about this event to make it seem like he is part of something illegitimate – don't they ever get bored? Sorry, I don't usually address them as they're not worth it, but: :rolleye:] In reality this seems like a good way to sustain the national training camps, if the federation doesn’t have the means to do so.

Machine translation:

Support Japanese figure skaters and contribute to the local community by paying tax in your hometown! 120,000 yen Plan: Figure Skating at Kansai International Airport Ice Arena

The best place to be!

The All-Japan Junior Training Camp with Daisuke Takahashi as an instructor (only on-ice practice as an instructor)

The Kanku Ice Arena in Rinku Town, Izumisano City, is the only National Training Centre (hereafter referred to as "NTC") in Japan. The Kanku Ice Arena in Rinku Town, Izumisano City, is the only national training centre in Japan (hereinafter referred to as 'NTC') for figure skating and is a training base for future medallists (figure skaters). Recently, due to the rising demand for inbound travel and the rising price of fuel oil, the cost of accommodation in Izumisano City for the JSF, which supports the athletes, has become a significant burden, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue holding training camps at the NTC in the future. With the Winter Olympics coming up next season, summer training camps are extremely important for the athletes. We have been supporting them by providing accommodation and meals, but the situation is only getting worse. Therefore, the JSF, Izumisano City and our company have discussed the possibility of using the hometown tax payment system to overcome the problem of increased costs and to maintain and improve the training environment, so that the figure skaters can practice and hold training camps at the Kanku Ice Arena in the same way as before and further improve their performance. The three parties have decided to cooperate in providing support. Through this figure skating event, we hope to widely promote the attractiveness of the region and establish a role model for regional revitalisation through sport by making this public-private partnership sustainable. We also support this initiative. We look forward to your support.

* Here’s a partial translation of a german article about Japan's tax donor/hometown tax system for those, who like me, didn’t know how it works - apparently the system was introduced in 2008 to counteract the reduced tax revenues of rural municipalities due to the ongoing migration of the population to metropolitan areas. It seems to be more transparent than common tax distribution systems as citizens get to decide where and for what to invest part of their income tax and know in advance what benefits ("gifts") they’ll receive in return. As an additional benefit taxpayers who contribute more than 2,000 yen this way can have their income tax and residence tax reduced. Source: wikipedia):

Former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga developed the system. Citizens can decide to which municipalities a portion of their taxes should go. They can also distribute money even if they do not live in the municipality in question. In return for their contribution, they receive gifts.

The Japanese can distribute up to 20 per cent of their income tax in this way. The municipalities, in turn, are allowed to reinvest up to 30 per cent of the additional tax revenue generated in this way in thank-you gifts to the donors. In the last tax period, which lasted from March 2022 to March 2023, around 6.3 billion euros were distributed.

Given this amount of money, Japanese municipalities are trying to outdo each other with their thank-you gifts to tax donors. According to the WSJ report, many Japanese are now comparing the redistribution of their tax money to online shopping. This is because before the deadline for paying taxes, local authorities publish publicly accessible lists showing which "gifts" they are giving out for which "donation value".

In order to win the favour of taxpayers, the offers for gifts have become increasingly insane. In 2019, Goka, a small town north of Tokyo, promised a crane, a tipper lorry and three excavators in return for a tax donation of 2.3 million euros.

The small town of Takikawa on Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido is going one step further. For a donation of the equivalent of around 6,300 euros, taxpayers can be appointed mayor for a day. Donors can then sit in the mayor's chair for a day, stamp a resolution of the city council and talk to residents about the city's problems. They are then served a local speciality - cooked by the city's elected mayor.

I haven't followed Dai-chan closely for long and I already noticed this, too :palmf:

In any case, I think it's wonderful that Dai-chan is involved in a project to raise the profile of the junior training camp! I think the benefit is not only financial, but also being able to attend the junior training camp might make people more invested in the junior skaters, and of course, a training session with Dai-chan is a dream!

I haven't tangled with Dai's antis for ages. I thought they all matured and went away, apparently not.

Dai has always given back to the sport during and after his competitive career. His involvement and the generosity of his time to the younger skaters, raising funds for ice rinks, etc,, exemplifies his passion and love for his sport and the future generations of skaters, whether it be competitive skating or just skating for fun. Dai is one of the good guys and his name recognition makes him much in demand. He is truly a great Ambassador for Japanese skating!❤️❤️

Cross-posting from Kazuki's fan fest, his detailed account from Hyoen 🌠

DeepL translation of the bit about Dai-chan:

I said at the time of Kassouya that it was only because of Dai-chan that we were able to do our best, and that will not change even if the show is bigger and involves many more people.

Dai-chan is a person who always takes care of those around him. Not only during rehearsals, but even outside of rehearsals, he invites everyone out for dinner. His warm personality helped me a lot this time as well.

Actually, I was a bit shy at first to act and sing with Dai-chan. But as I was doing it, it became more and more enjoyable and I started to enjoy this luxurious opportunity.

It was really unexpected that I would be singing alone in Till The End of my Life, with Dai-chan and Takuro-san in the background, but I was able to get through it with the feeling that "But it's okay because we're together, Dai-chan and Takuro-san, we're the strongest".

After working with him this time, I feel more and more that I will follow him for the rest of my life. The more I get involved, the more I like him more and more, he's a really strange person.

Yes, he was always cool, but it was interesting that he cried so much every time (laughs). There were times when I sang 'Till The End of my Life' with tears in my eyes, but the way Dai-chan got into it was unbelievable.

I have once again realised that I want to be someone like that, too, and I will always work hard looking at my big brother's back, in the past, now and in the future. I am always grateful to you. Thank you so much.

Another cross-post from Kazuki's Fan Fest:
Yesterday, non-no released another part of the Kazuki/Dai-chan joint interview, this time they were talking about their experience at Kassouya. Really interesting!
From the July/August issue of #nonno, now on sale, we bring you a conversation between #Daisuke Takahashi and #Kazuki Tomono.
This time, they talk about their joint struggle and the bond that was born in "Kassouya". A retrospective talk between the chairperson, Mr Takahashi, and Mr Tomono, who supported him. The conception, the reason for the tears shed after the first performance, the rain direction of "Halston", the scene where the two faced each other, etc...

I haven't tangled with Dai's antis for ages. I thought they all matured and went away, apparently not.

There are always new ones initiated by the old guard. The most pathetic ones are those, who spread insults and lies and call someone the vilest of names elsewhere and then visit fan spaces where they pretend to like them. I don’t have to understand that, do I? If I dislike someone, I just ignore them instead of wasting my precious time and energy on them.

\ end of rant (the first and last time I will be so blunt)

I'm really sorry of that. There's just the same behaviour from some antis on forums of fans of Yuzuru Hanyu, so I suppose that it's a pattern, a mindset. Some speculate that they are ex-fans turned anti, I don't know.

Non-no published another bit from the joint Dai/Kazuki interview, this time talking about what kind of show they'd like to do in the future:

As I said on Kazuki's fan fest, I've been enjoying everything I've read from this interview so far, but this part is particular touching 🥹

I really appreciate how Dai comes across as such a warm and open person, and I LOL'd with his answer about his 'driving force' 😆 I totally understand why he is so liked, not only for his skating but for his personality as well.

The filming of "The City of Warehouses" is about to start and the leads have finally been revealed! Soma Santoki (19) and Runa Nakajima (17) are going to portray the two main characters, high school students Aoi and Beniko:

The film depicts high school students who rush to set off fireworks from Mount Tsurugata in the scenic area to cheer up a friend who is a young carer. Santoki plays Aoi, a high school boy who plans the fireworks, and Nakajima plays Beniko, a classmate who takes care of her autistic brother.
Santoki voiced the main character in Studio Ghibli's film "How Do You Live?" ("The boy and the heron"). Nakajima previously appeared in the film "90 Years Old. What's So Celebrated?" which was released in June. The two were selected at an audition held in Tokyo.
The film is directed and written by Kuramatsu Emiko (57), a film director from Kurashiki City. Former world figure skating champion Daisuke Takahashi is cast as the curator of a local museum who Aoi consults with, and actor MEGUMI as Beniko's mother. Filming will take place in the city for about three weeks from 22nd.
