Dance Event at Worlds

I can't imagine that DomShabs won't skate at Worlds, with the gold medal within their grasp. In the worst-case scenario, if DomShabs don't go, then watch Khokhlova / Novitski make their way onto the podium.

well this is what i have heard( and i was suprised by the news)...I too think Shabalin will try and make it at all cost.
they cant afford to gave Khokhlova / Novitski any head starts
.

But would it be worth it? What happens if he skates at World's and blows his leg? I think it was a mistake for them to compete at Euros. He needs to take care of his legs if he wants to continue past this season.

He should have skipped Euros to rest up then come back in full force for worlds.
I hope he does not injure himself more by skating at Worlds........

Whoa...this is big news!
Are Dom/Shabs not competing at worlds?! I really can't imagine that.
I wish him well with that leg of his; it must be so frustrating.

there are limits...

but i doubt that their pride will prevent them from competing:rolleye:

With Dom/Shab's out officially (i saw it on icenetwork.com), I'd count V/M into the medal mix even more. I'd love to see them get bronze. I like them more than any other team on the planet, but that's my opinion. I know I've argued that they were better than other teams in the past, but I'm no judge. If the judges at the GPF scored them lower than the other top teams, than they must not be as good. I'd just love to see them get a medal, but only if they deserve it. I'd be even more upset if Del/Schos didn't medal here though. They really deserve it, providint that they don't fall or anything like that.

Now that Dom/Shab have withdrawn, B/A seem to be the favorites. However, last time I saw them skate, it was at the GPF, and I thought it was awful. I think their choreography is brilliant, but for some reason, Tanith kept on smiling and acting really happy, when the music was rather the opposite. I don't know if tanith will skate the same way at worlds, but if she does, I really would be upset if they got gold.

I saw the GPF, and didn't notice Tanith looking happy except at the beginning of the FD. By the end, she looked sad and distressed. The theme of the dance was that lovers go through changes and what was once happy has been changed by life and is no longer happy.

It was Tessa Virtue who looked happy throughout their dance, based on the film "Umbrellas of Cherbourg", and that was totally inappropriate. The girl in that movie was in love with a man her parents thought below her station and when he went off to the military, they forced her to marry another man. But all we saw from Tessa was a happy, beaming face throughout the entire dance.

I think they've chosen to only portray a small part of the story, which is the love part, rather than the part where they force her to marry another man so that he can help raise the daughter she had with the mechanic. But, like you, I agree that all she seems to do is beam throughout the program. She doesn't fill it (the empty space) with herself, rather she lets Scott do a majority of the feeling.

I don't think skaters have to follow a story line from an original story.

I think the character of the music which is being judged should come from an original interpretation.

No one has ever skated to Tosca as perfectly as Maria Callas has sung 3 hours of it. Better they just find what that music means to them and not to the story.

What goes against that argument is that they have included dialogue in their FD---some of which is anguished cries from the female character, yet Tessa smiles through that portion, too. If they just wanted to portray the joys of young love, then they should have edited the score to remove the dialogue. To me, the dance is one-dimensional when there were possibilities to have made it moving and poignant.

Despite the nitpicking, I find V/M a beautiful team to watch to whatever music they use. There is no original story to last season's Valse Triste but they made one feel the pathos of the music
