I posted it already. I find "Dante's prayer" to be an exhibition even more beautiful than FOG. Loreena McKennitt's piece is dark, mysterious, kind of cold and deep, like an ascension, a religious experience, and Lori Nichols choreo to MK embark us in those dark waters.

Sorry, I read the thread and posted my comment in two different moments and I must have forgotten that you mentioned it...excellent taste, though, you have! :agree:
Dante's prayer is IMO one of MK most memorable programs; I think that what makes FOG so special is not only the program itself, which was lovely, but the circumstances surrounding its exhibition... I was too young to remember it directly but I can guess that many people were heartbroken watching MK in her gold dress with tears in her eyes...

Thank you. SLC-EXH was the perfect scenario for FOG to emote, not the way MK had it planned, tho'. Ò,o

Maybe the only program to truly inspire me this season. The mix of flow and technical mastery is brilliant. She moves to the music and interprets it during spins, steps, and during transitions scoring huge points but never seems to chase after them. The step sequence is designed to keep your focus on the character and not just getting levels. The jumps fit the program and are seemless in between moments that guide you toward the choreography.

Program of the Year for me and truly beautiful skating by my standards.

Not sure if this program can be considered an EXH, it's the one that Katia skated in the Tribute to Sergei. It was her first time skating alone after his passing. Watch it for the pure beauty of her skating - the speed, the flow, the artistry, the details to the tip of her hands, the story behind it, her courage.... and cry your hearts out. I'm still weeping after 20 years later. She was absolutely exquisite.

Especially when you consider it was her first solo performance. Skating to something this important en emotional, not just doing something she was used to, but also performing many (for her) new elements which she never had to do as a pairs skater.

Jeremy's 2015 Nationals exhibition program to "Dear Lord" by John Coltrane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LEQfMBrEQ4

Background on this program and why I call it tragically beautiful skating.
His father had passed a few weeks before Nationals and this was done in tribute to him. I cried the whole time and especially when he broke down at the end of his program. (If you recall his SP from this Nationals, Jeremy signaled to the sky afterwards for his dad, more tearjerkers for me.):sad21:

Enjoy this beauty of a program choreographed by Jeremy which exhibits the stages of grieving for someone.

Because it is not an exhibition, but a competitive program.

Who cares?! Beautiful skating is beautiful skating. It shouldn't matter if it was a competitive program or exhibition, beauty spans itself all over the skating world.

But the subject of this thread was about beautiful skating through exhibition programs, so your inputs are off-topic. Thank you.

Actually they're not because my submission to this thread was an exhibition skate. So you can go sit down now.

To avoid any confusion to any late comer to the thread, "in exhibition programs" should be back to the title. Only Mods can fix this.

Well I just read the thread title as beautiful skating. Here is another non exhibition video of skating and a skater's insights into performing that I find to be the absolute definition of beautiful.

https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/video/2013/may/01/sasha-cohen-life-after-figureskating-video

You can tell her heart is into it and I love her comments on how when the music plays during a piece that you can relate to the rest of the world just disappears.

Sometimes I think beautiful skating is just an extension of being a beautiful person who appreciates the moments skating offers. I think this sport is full of people like that :)
