I still decided to give a bit more information about what was spoken there at the TV3 news.
After the Olympics, Deniss took part at the World Championship, ranked high in the 6th place. This is by far the best achievement of Latvian figure skaters in world championships.
"For several athletes the Olympics is the only goal. They come, show their best and then they as if ''let the air out''. I was maybe more strategically minded. The World Championship opens the new four-year Olympic cycle. It's the first competition in which the judges create some opinion of the next gold medal winner, "says Deniss.
Deniss acknowledges that the 19th place at the Olympics was a bitter lesson for him. "Everyone said that it is such a special event that it caused a big stress. Too big. But it was the kind of competition I would always want to take part in."
Deniss' coach, world champion Stefane Lambiel, also arrived in Latvia. In his opinion, the new skater has still a huge place to grow. Deniss has to become psychologically stronger, which is one of the keys to the success in this sport. The coach admires Deniss' ability to collect himself and to reach new records after the Olympics. "Figure skating is an extremely complex sport, in which physical strength has to be combined with grace. Everything is crucial - from the choice of music to costumes", emphasizes Lambiel.
"The first thing to stand up to is self-confidence, the second one - he should be on the ice as an explosive! This is the time when a new choreography is to be created, and this is a long process for the brain - to remember all the new movements, steps and arm movements, "says the trainer. :scratch3:
Meanwhile, Deniss has already put on his sports suit instead of the suit and gives open practice at the Daugavpils ice hall. To tell the truth, this month his main priority will be not skates but books. It is necessary to prepare for high school leaving exams, and Deniss is even glad to give the interview in Latvian - it's opportunity to polish up his language skills, which living abroad, are not that good any more.
"There will be no ice for me from next Monday. Unfortunately my coach is leaving. :sad4: For two weeks I will be studying and then I will take exams. I will learn very very much. I hope that I will remember everything and fully improve my skills, "says Deniss.
He certainly relates his future with figure skating - to be active in the competitions and to teach young people. This is something of vital interest for him. He is also interested in economics and plans to acquire management in a Swiss higher education institution. :agree2:
Well, my prediction was correct- he is going to study! And I'm very happy about it. More than that- it means that their tandem continues! And that is super great!
But I'm sad that the open practice was nowhere advertised, not even in Daugavpils. Only today there appeared news about it. There could come much more people. :furious:
