Deniss Vasiljevs

Stephane likes his skating so much that he offered to choreograph his SP for free after working with him on the FS.
Oh that is wonderful of him!!!! :luv17: I always adored Stèphane he is not only one of the most beautiful skaters I have ever seen but also seems to be such a sweet person, and I wasn't wrong in that  I hope this season is just a start of their awesome collaboration for a long time to come!

Yes, great news. Also, as I remember, Denis's financial situation is indeed solved - he managed to gather enough money on the campaign for now, but Stephane likes his skating so much that he offered to choreograph his SP for free after working with him on the FS.

What a gentle soul Stephane has! He is not only one of the greatest artists on the ice but has offered a very generous gift for the young talented skater, Denis! Denis' skating is surely great enough for him to fall in love with. I'm so looking forward to see Denis' new programs by Stephane. :)

Three cheers for Stephane and his kindness!!! :cheer: I am so looking forward to seeing BOTH new programs, where hopefully Deniss will be able to fully bring Stephane's artistic vision to life. How exciting!!! :yay:

Late, but Happy Birthday, Deniss! May this season be even better than last one! :hb: :cheer:

Thank you @silverfoxes for adorbs pics, which I had missed!!! :luv17:
Deniss had been scheduled to participate in a series of shows in Northern Italy this week along with the master Lambiel, but he withdrew due to his condition (I expected this), disappointing some of my friends who went. I was actually relieved to know that he decided not to participate, instead of forcing himself in order to earn more income. Which indicates that his financial condition is no longer at a critical state, AND he is surrounded by wise people who makes his well being a priority :agree: I take it as a positive sign. Let's hope we will get to see him back in full force in a couple of months' time ;)

Just received my October issue of International Figure Skating magazine. Very nice article entitled "Vasiljevs Leaps Into Latvian History". It goes on to explain that he is on track to become Latvia's most decorated skater.

Regarding Worlds, Deniss says, "I was very excited to skate on the same practices with great skaters such as Patrick Chan. But I was nervous because I was afraid to be misunderstood. However, they were nice to me and I had a lot of positive experiences."

For the future, "My main goal is to qualify for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. But in order to reach this goal, I need to learn quads."

I know a lot of these articles are just a retelling of old news, but I thought it was cool to see they did a feature on him. There is also a nice photo of him performing his Puttin on the Ritz SP. He really is a cutie!

Huge news just arrived from his page on FB. Stèphane Lambiel will now take on Deniss full time!!!! So excited for him!!!

Personal message from him

Dear friends,

I finally have some updates on my training!

As you may know, I went to Sochi to train with clear objectives: to learn the triple axel and to consolidate my other triple jumps. I am proud of the work we have done, and I believe we have reached these objectives. Thanks to Alexei Urmanov and his team, I had a great season, highlighted by a silver medal at the YOG in Lillehammer.

My injury gave me time to think about the next step in my career. I have grown up, in my sport as well as my personal life, and I have new goals. Technically, there is a lot more I have to learn, especially quads, and I also feel that I need to reach a higher level of expression and interpretation.

During this spring, I had the pleasure of working on my programs with Stéphane Lambiel at his school in Champéry. It was a great experience, and I found the training conditions there were ideal. Today, I am happy and excited to let you know that Stéphane has accepted to take me on as his student for the upcoming season! We have been working together since my return from Canada and I feel more confident every day.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the coaches who have brought me to where I am today, especially Ingrida and Alexei. I will always be grateful to them.

Wow! Very exciting. They do seem like they are perfect complements, style wise, and this will be Stephane's first high level student. I think it's not always easy for Russian coaches to keep foreign skaters when they get to a certain level (in terms of pushback from the Russian fed), so maybe that played a role as well. But it's great that Deniss has been blessed with several wonderful mentors already in his young career.

Can't wait to see Stephane with him in the kiss and cry, hopefully :)

:hap93: Any occasion to see Lambiel and his choreography makes me super happy!!!!!
Nobody can know for sure if in the long run Stephane will be better than Urmanov for Deniss, but this partnership has SO MUCH POTENTIAL that I'm glad Deniss took this opportunity.

I'm happy for Deniss, but at the same time, I thought Urmanov was really great coach for him... Well, I guess he thought it through. We'll see how it works out, hopefully it will be great! :)

He must have a great sponsor, living& training in Switzerland is not cheap.
