Deniss Vasiljevs

A week ago I watched my favourite figure skaters on the Eurosport for the last time. [...]
I’m so sorry for being so talkative.
Don't be sorry, your observations are really interesting and thank you for sharing them.
I've watched Deniss' FP on British Eurosport and must say that I love a word I've never heard before from the BESP commentator: "dazzling" Also a lady at Spanish TV used the words I like: "maravilloso" and "elegante" (and many more, but I hardly speak Spanish ). What's the most important, they both agreed that Deniss is on the best way to become a great skater ("work in progress" - another term I appreciate :))

And now a question I've forgotten to ask for a long time: did Deniss (or Stephane) explain an idea of his FS costume?

Thank you! I am doing it with great pleasure. :luv17:

I haven't found any explanation about FP costume, at least not in Latvian media.

Something new and a bit different!!:luv17:
The last hug

Some times ago I saw a photo of Deniss and Patrick in 2013 in Paris and wanted to show you because it was shocking for me how much Deniss grew in just three years time. But it disappeared in the internet abyss...
Instead, I found this fan movie. Kids and the figure skating champions (and the best skaters as kids) :luv17:

Do you mean this pic? https://twitter.com/DenissVjpfan/status/870152973288124416 :luv17: it's incredible how fast he grew up! He must be taller than Patrick now, would be cool to see another pic of them side by side  it has been 5 years since then, I guess.
The fan video is very sweet, aww.

I think they must be discussing his crazy hair
I realised something the other day. please hear me out I know this is silly but I swear I'm not crazy
I saw another pic similar to the 4th one in the link - probably taken at the same moment - where Deniss pushed his hair up, and someone said 'it looks like a pineapple!' I got to thinking. With his wild blonde hair and brown eyes, doesn't Deniss look like a sunflower??? 🌻 ;) :slink:

Do you mean this pic?
Yes, thank you! This is the only picture I could compare Deniss' height to somebody whose height I know. And I think today he is taller than Patrick too :) But Deniss grew some 4 cm up during last 2 years, so he must have grown some 30 cm from 2013 till 2016.

But you are right! Also a sunflower is a floral equivalent for a lion head with its characteristic mane, so everything suits beautifully

As to some silly connotations - I asked about the idea behind Deniss' FS costume because ones I saw his jacket as a partly shedded snake skin  What fits to the concept of "work in progress"...

Deniss updated his instastory yesterday

If you look at their sunglasses, you can see Deniss's hand taking the photo

In Stephane's message to Yuzuru (from CiONTU ice show) there's a clip, presumably from last year's off season, of him at TCC. You can see Deniss on a bench in the background.

I noticed it too, with difficulties, as in the beginning Japanese subtitles covered Deniss' face  The same story Stephane told during his fan meeting in Moscow as from 2017 (a photo from June/July 2017).

Worlds SP (with Eurosport commentary) appeared on yt; hope it stays unremoved. Quite interesting discussion about Stephane&Deniss' plan for the season (wait with quads, show quality to gain reputation among judges).

If anyone like to see Deniss' performance from the opposite side of the rink (I love it!), there is back-up (or fan, but of a great quality) camera coverage of SP and FS at Rostelecom. Watching it, I have one tip for cameramen: the simpler, the better ;)

Look at this cute little Deniss charm! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bhtwz6gh59T/
And I was not the only one to think of sunflowers

I saw someone on Twitter mention Japan Open. What do you think the chances are that Deniss will be invited? Fernández has been a mainstay for the last few years, but I think he said he won't do it anymore. Additionally they usually invite the Russian ladies, but not the Russian men. And Deniss is popular in Japan. Would be great if he could go :)

It’s absolutely wishful thinking, but you know how they often have a retired skater come back for Japan Open? What if the Team Europe men were Deniss and Stéphane? I know it’s not going to happen but it’s fun to imagine they could do it if they wanted to.

I am just now catching up on this thread and still trying to process my thoughts about Patrick's retirement (although we all knew it was coming :sad4:). I want to thank everyone for sharing so many videos, pictures, translations, etc in this thread. It is so active these days. :) AgnesR, we can count on you to give us anything from Latvia about Deniss. :thank: I know it's April already, but I want to add my CONGRATULATIONS to Deniss on his FANTASTIC Worlds performances!!! :cheer2: To finish 6th without a quad these days is quite an achievement!!! Not to mention he got invited to the gala!!! All of Deniss's jumps looked great at Worlds, particularly the 3As, and of course the other aspects were on point as usual. It is quite telling that the main thrill for Deniss came from the audience response and not as much from what he did in the programs!!! Of course he always wants to jump successfully, but that's not his main objective and/or reason for skating, even in competitions. I love him for that!!! I am quite curious what Deniss's programs for next season will be. I loved Puccini from the start and Sway definitely won me over as the season went on.

Where can I watch Deniss's gala from Worlds? I did not enjoy the camerawork in general at Worlds, and from what I've read elsewhere on GS, the gala was the worst camerawork of all the events, so maybe I didn't miss much?

I uploaded his EX for you here https://streamable.com/maoss :) Some of the camera angles are pretty terrible (why are all the cameramen in love with skycam now??? :disapp:) but on the other hand some of the closeups are pretty nice :luv17:

I can't wait to see his new programs! Hopefully he will debut at least one at Fantasy on Ice like he did last year.

So things are going according to the schedule: April - jumping camp and May - camp in Latvia
And Ghislain Briand was invited to Champery! I'm impressed. Great that Deniss didn't need to travel to Toronto, he has no much time this year...

I think the trip to Toronto was planned for July, though. He'll go later :)

I was very excited to hear Ghislain was part of that training camp - he's TCC's jump coach, right?... ;)

This account has been posting pics/videos of Deniss from Worlds, and also from earlier this season. Here is today's Deniss. :o:

Me too! :agree2:

I remember your post some time ago - Next season, I think it would be exciting if he tried skating something dark and powerful, and turned this electricity into a perfect storm.

I agree to every word. I would also like to see something dramatic, some emotional eruption. Because he can do it better than many others. His ''Four Seasons'' and ''Tosca'' were a real proof. He probably won't read this, so I hope that he feels the same and one day it will happen!
