Deniss Vasiljevs

Thank you lavenderblossom and icetug for providing these great resource for the faoi !! just for the additional information of the costume, someone on the Weibo who have seen the ice show , said it is black costumes with white leaves or wings on the back and no left sleeve[yes i think we got it right!

Well, needless to say, I adore the program with Stephane. I couldn't help but briefly wonder how Deniss would do as a pair skater...their synchronicity is so good for a couple of singles! I love these collaborations - such a breath of fresh air in a show like this with so many terrible exes set to lame pop music (of course, they aren't all like that, but enough that I don't get too excited for shows and galas any more).

for the background comment , it basically said that the first part of Stephane’s solo is [the beginning of learning life experience from unknown] and the first collaboration is [the sharing of energy] and Deniss’s solo is [inherit and develop these ideas , and bring them to the future]

Thank for the translated on Weibo, my poor Japanese level can not fully understand what the commenter’ saying, so i use the Chinese translated version on Weibo and once again change it to English, which may cause some misunderstand.....Sorry about that, and if i have any mistake, Please correct me!!

A, and by the way, the music they use is <Eyes Shut - Nocturne in C minor> , recomposed by Olafur Arnalds and Alice Sara Ott, from <Nocturne No13 in minor, Op.48.No1>
I wonder will it be Deniss’s new Fs, just like four season[collaborate with Stephane] or Sway[ first public in Faoi]

Thanks for the info! I thought it was interesting, that during Deniss's solo, Stephane still had a spotlight. In a way, this duet is a continuation of the Four Seasons one - ideas being shared and passed on the next generation, except that this is a more developed form.

Thanks for the music info - on Twitter someone suggested it was the Barenboim version of Nocturne no13, but that version was too fast to be it.
Deniss' Four Seasons FS was originally choreographed to just be his FS, and the new choreography had to be added on. However, this program was made to be skated this way, with the two of them together. It could become one of Deniss' new programs, and he does have a solo piece, but I wouldn't think so. It's too long for an SP and there aren't enough jumps for a FS.

Woke up to scary news this morning - there was an large earthquake in Osaka, around 8am Japan time. The Fantasy on Ice twitter has confirmed that all the invited skaters, guest artists and staff are fine, so we can rest easy. https://twitter.com/Fantasy_on_Ice/status/1008542085123698688

I love love love this program.

I don’t think it’ll be a competitive program though, because while I LOVE the music, it doesn’t have much in the way of ups and downs. And the choreography doesn’t look like there are spaces for jumps. That said, this does seem to represent a lot of work for an ex that is only used in a few shows, so maybe? Or (what I hope) it means they’ll do lots more shows together and can keep using and refining it!

I was also thinking how much faith in Deniss’ artistry they have, to skate programs together. I remember thinking the four seasons collaboration, which I loved, did show up that Stéphane could do Deniss’ choreography better than Deniss could. But I don’t get that sense here. There is a dialogue between collaborators, and while it is about the transfer of knowledge, the fact that Stéphane joins Deniss again at the end makes it clear that it’s also about them sharing the stage. They are literally boosting each other, and guiding each other - like the spread eagle where Stéphane brings Deniss from behind to surpassing him.

I want them to do an annotated version and tell us what the different parts mean, because you know that coming from these two, there has to be lots of thought and philosophy behind each movement.

Also...Deniss twizzles are ice dance quality and I want to shower all the points on him.

Yes! You are absolutely right! In fact, I ran out of words when I tried to express the feelings that the program brought me, but what you said is exactly what I thought. I feel that this program might be more than just a transfer of knowledge and experience, like the commentators said. It seems to me that the program is a story with specific plots. Of course it's only my imagination but I do hope they could explain more about this masterpiece in the future.

I agree, this program is a proper duet. It highlights both their shared strengths (in the parts they skate together) and their differences in style (their solos). Deniss has a sharper feel in this program. He hits every note of the faster part, not just matching the music but truly expressing the passion within. Not that Steph can't do that, but his part focuses on his mastery of a more lyrical, softer, controlled style. They show what they both do best.

Oh, absolutely  They were sublime here and here. After seeing Stephane's twizzles at the beginning, it made me hope that at some point they'll add in SBS twizzles. Imagine... Like you said, this is a lot of work for one show, so I hope they'll do it again at FaOI Shizuoka (as that show will also be broadcast on Japanese TV). Maybe even later down the line, at AoI or something.

Speaking of Four Seasons duet, the most popular video is now at 53k views :)
