Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

With as above and beyond as she went for Russia concerning the Olympics this year alone I would say there's no way she'll forget her heritage. Even in her statement, she said "I must change my place of residence", which to me IMO felt like "I might be living somewhere else but that doesn't mean I'm forgetting Russia/am no longer Russian". To me she just seems way too patriotic to leave that part of herself behind, no matter where in the world she is.

It's so weird to me that this is even a question. No one worries about Marin Honda or Eun Soo moving to the US to train with Raf losing their heritage or no longer proudly representing their countries. Hanyu and Javi both train(ed) in Canada with Orser, and there was never any question about their love of their own countries and their national pride. It is extremely common for elite athletes to train abroad. Russian athletes tend to be the exception and stay in Russia, but just because one Russian has decided to train abroad doesn't mean that she is abandoning or betraying her country. It really sucks that some in the Russian press/comment sections seem to be taking it that way.

Well, tbh "place of residence" is a standard russian world to indicate where you live. For example, to have "permanent place of residence" outside Russia means you currently live outside russia.
There is no patriotic or whatever connotation in this, it is a regular expression. In fact, this could mean as well she is moving to Canada to never come back to russia again.

That is what I was afraid of too, my friend. :slink: RIP figure skating. :sad21:

I dont know, Orser is not known for having skaters with bad technique, and she mention before she wanted to improve it, of course, rebuilding technique while competing its nearly imposible, maybe just fix the take-off (thats how you call it? the loop entry she has) but fixing the pre-rotations would be fine too (especially the axel, thats just awful)

in my country people say that too, mostly for elections, it just mean you are moving

HAHHAHAH, this is genius! :laugh2:

Yuna is the Time Stone... it means she may alter time and do a come back!! *Especially with GOE = +5 (increase of 67%) these days, yippee!!!!*

Javier is the Reality Stone, so true... the reality is European judges rule!! Plus EC+WC=HC2 (Hot Champion2)

Power Stone is Evgenia, again, the power is currently with her, watch out Alina!

Gabby is the blue Space stone, The Loki to Osmond's Thor. 3T3T into space and back.

Hanyu the Mind Stone, yup his mind conquers all...over coming injuries, crazy attack of the quads, crazy pressures! The beautiful mind boy!! uh... I mean TWO TIMES OLYMPIC CHAMPION!!!!

-----------

Does that mean Captain Marvel is really Alina/Eteri in training who is out to get Thanos coming season?

Can't wait for the sequel 2018-19.

Well, actually it makes all sense.

Soviet heritage, actually - move to another country = traitor. Also, well, it is actually pretty common to think that people move because their homeland is not good enough for them.
Last but not least, many people are pissed that all this will be likely funded by rusfed. While western athletes train abroad with their own or their sponsors cash, this may not be the case for some of the Russian athletes, and actually this is a fair reason to be unhappy about it. If rusfed pays for Med (and it is a lot of money), this money will be spent abroad, not in Russia (so not supporting local people and so on), and also it is a rather large amount, which could be invested in raising top skaters locally.
TBH, I myself would be the first one to say "NOPE" if rusfed will actually pay for it. If Evgenia wants to train abroad, she should pay for it herself.

In fairness Orser didn't touch Gabby's flutz either, pretending that is a beautiful lutz, and considering how the calls have been so inconsistent recently with the flutz for basically all the top skaters, Evgenia should include it in the SP too.

Skaters from Japan/China/Canada/US reguarly work with coaches and choreographers from different countries, and it's not an issue for them. Russia is the only big skating country I can think of who likes to keep things extremely insular (to a bizarre degree), so I'm excited for one of its top skaters to finally branch out.

Cross-pollination is a good thing.

I've also seen such comments from the other side so to speak. Sort of "suck it Russia! Zhenya's moving to Canada and she'll finally be free". Just like some people were a bit too happy to embrace that rumour about Zhenya switching to another citizenship, because Russia does not deserve her or something.

yep, we actually have a bunch of users on this forum making such claims.

what private conversation?

EDIT: wait, is this about the meeting they had? it wasnt a confidence what she told him, he wait until she spoke about it first and most important, he didnt say any of that to put her in a bad light, like Eteri did

excuse my mistakes

Read his interview..What Zhenya told him about Eteri's methods..

It's totally fair to not want it funded by RusFed. As you said, RusFed should be investing in their own people! Employing Russian coaches, choreographers, etc. is a good thing that the federation does.

At the same time, Evgenia getting good competitive results is good for RusFed and and good for Russian figure skating as a whole. She served as a clean sports ambassador during the whole doping fiasco and represented Russian sport. If anyone deserves the extra $$$$ spent on them, it's Evgenia (but it's also reasonable to believe that no one deserves the extra $$$$ spent on them because special treatment is unfair).

That said, if RusFed is paying, I highly doubt they'll keep paying unless Evgenia gets good results.

Anyway, it's also ridiculous to believe that people are crapping on their homeland when they decide to move somewhere else. There are different and exciting opportunities all over the world that people can explore! Not only that, but people move to different cities, countries, etc. all the time for work-related reasons. Evgenia is moving for her job as a figure skater and that has nothing to do with how she feels about her country or her heritage.

Read his interview..What Zhenya told him about Eteri's methods..

How is that "in confidence"? Eteri's methods are public knowledge, are documented, and have been spoken about by her other pupils. Revealing something in confidence is using someone's most emotional comments against them maliciously in the court of public opinion.

You're willfully trying to compare apples to oranges.

What did Orser repair or have to repair in her current/recent students' jumps actually? Or what technique did he build?
