Evgenia Medvedeva

Hi, I hope you all don't mind me posting here. I am so sorry for her receiving this kind of unacceptable note. I've read some reports of today's show and they said Evgenia got the standing ovation from the crowd. I hope she felt love and support and will be able to enjoy the rest of FaOI

With Shoma going to train under Eteri, at least for the summer, I was thinking of last year when Med left for Orser. It seemed like some of the Russians on this forum were critical of her because she was using Russian federation money to pay for a foreign coach. In general, it sounds like a lot of the hate she got back in Russia was because she was leaving for a Western coach. I have feeling there isn't the same outrage from Eteri receiving Japanese funds.

Another thing I notice is that when she is interviewed by a Russian news source, she has to almost overly reaffirm that she's misses Russia. I don't doubt that's true, it just that the reporters are trying to bait her into saying something as innocuous as saying she likes living in Toronto and Canada is a great place to live. Of course the critics would interpret that to mean that she likes Canada more than Russia.

I think Zhenya is happy in Canada. But I don‘t doubt that she also misses Russia, it‘s still the country she grew up in and it‘s only been a year. When my parents moved to Austria, they told me it was all strange for a while until they adjusted. And they were adults, not a teenager like Zhenya. So, I’m 100% sure that’s true when she says she misses Russia. But I agree with you, that it seems like she has to make a huge point out of it and mention it a lot just to calm down some people. I still remember the criticism after one of her interviews where she said: ”Home is where my heart/family is“ and people interpreted that as her “preferring“ Canada. I wish people would just let it go. It‘s been long enough.

About Shoma... Well, they also don‘t seem to have a problem when Eteri (or a different coach) coaches a foreign skater like Lil‘Bet to beat one of their own. It‘s not about Japan, or Eteri or Shoma or Zhenya. I believe that it was, for some Russians, specifically that Zhenya was moving to a CANADIAN coach. After winning two Worlds and Olympic Silver, they probably took it as an insult to Russian coaching methods. So, yeah, I do believe it was about the Western coach particularly. But thankfully, that were only a few, very old-fashioned Russians. Let‘s remember Nationals. The kids all look up to her and the people love her.

:sad14: Johnny Weir posted today that Evgenia got a very disrespectful message today from a "fan".

This makes me angry!!

But I saw on Zhenya‘s fan sites on Instagram that Japanese fans on Twitter are now responding with #loveMedvedeva to show to her (and everyone else) that the message written by this person is not true at all.

Happy to hear that she‘s fine. But it‘s sad that this isn‘t the first time she‘s had to deal with it... I just don‘t get those people...

In the end, though, the only thing this particular letter achieved was Johnny supporting Zhenya and her Japanese fans speaking up, showing that nothing of the bs in it is true. So many pictures on social media with the #IloveZhenya. It‘s like a mini Japanese social media version of Russian Nationals and I‘m here for it. :)

Zhenya helped bring eteri to the top of coaching even more than Polina and Yulia did. Eteri has 3A plus Alina and Kamilla Now Shoma. there are not any elite Russian men skaters so if Shoma coached by EG beats one of the Russians in competition it won't be that big a deal. But Lilbet at this point is another story because she was born in Russia grew up in Russia and trains in Russia. She only has a Kazakhstan passport. When she beat Zhenya for the silver medal at worlds I didn't know what to think. I thought it was amazing that Eteri went one and two again in a major competition. But then I started thinking what did the big wigs in the Russian Federation think about evgenia being edged for silver by someone with a Kazakhstan passport? It's not a big issue at the moment but if Lilbet who has a quad beats the Russian girls for a world title next season the bleep will hit the fan. Lol! But for now it's not a big issue. And now that EG has taken in a Japanese skater what will happen if she takes in one of the top two or three Japanese lady skaters who are real threat to the Russian girls. I don't think she will do that at this point. But if Eteri is all about Eteri first and foremost that's possible. That would be very interesting and it would be interesting to get Evgenias opinion on all of this. ;) But I doubt that will ever happen.

On a more positive/funny note:

Zhenya in 2015, teaching Wakaba how to jump with tano. And I‘m sorry to say it but I had to laugh because Wakaba first did a straight, beautiful tano arm and then Zhenya “corrects” it to a helicopter.

And here‘s Zhenya having fun bowling with other skaters. It‘s from the shibsibs video

What happened to Wakaba? She seems to be really sweet.

She‘s had some problems this year with injuries, I think. And she‘s ill now, too. She should have attended Mishin‘s training camp but can‘t. I hope she‘ll be fine and have my fingers crossed for her. She‘s a great skater and her and Zhenya‘s friendship is just precious.

I suggest you report users like that if you come across, and just move on. Unfortunately, the bigger you are, the more hate you get too. As long as she's okay, that's what matters.
