I'm surprised Zhenya isn't more popular. I fell in love with her at the Junior Grand Prix Final last year and that love has just grown and grown. She is such a beautiful well-rounded skater. What she has accomplished her first year as a senior hasn't been done in a long time and she has a maturity that exceeds her age. Good luck at Nationals, Zhenya!!

She's my pick to win Russian nationals. Love or hate everyone else on the squad (Yulia, Liza, Lena, Adel, Anna, Sima, Alena, Polyna ... so many of them), she is not only outstanding in her own right but also the consensus choice even among critics of the other ladies.

She's so solid and determined. It's like every jump comes with confidence. I wonder what's going to be her next 'upgrade' though? Her flip-toe is her money jump, would we see her doing lutz-toe in the future?

So glad to see her skating rewarded; so glad to see her TYPE of skating rewarded. Fierce, elegant and gifted. What more could a fan of figure skating want? What she has you can't teach; what she doesn't you can. I'm excited for the next few years and I have this feeling that Evgenia and Radionova are going to be filling the void that Yuna and Mao once occupied.

Evgenia yes, Radionova no way. Radio is the opposite of elegance, really bad posture and flailing arms. I'd rather see miyahara or marin become the next asada and filling the void of Yuna and Asada together with Evgenia.

Miyahara is so tiny and her jumps are too low, so I am not sure about her future growth. I think there are quite a few promising junior girls from Japan who can replace Mao in the near future.

Evgenia Medvedeva: " My coach helped me to win in Barcelona"

A Russian winner of the last year’s Junior GPF Evgenia Medvedeva won this time the Senior Grand Prix final [feel the difference ]. After the routine, the figure skater admitted that although she configured on a clean skate, but she is in shock from what she has done.

Q: What does it mean for you this victory, and why do you say that it was a surprise if you configured for a good result?
A: I configured for a clean skate, because I knew the athletes participating in the final are of such a high level, which they prove not for the first year that they are the best in the world, and, as a rule, these competitions are collected by all the strongest, and the fact I became the best among them in my first senior season is a very pleasant surprise for me.

Q: What did you help more - nature, fighting spirit?
A: My coach. Eteri Georgievna (Tutberidze) helped me to be adjusted correctly, she and distracted me and entertained, and strongly supported.
I am very glad that I had a worthy skate today. Glad that I fulfilled the task. I’m happy that the viewers liked it because I skate not only for myself but also for people who are passionate about skating, I try to give them maximum pleasure. Thanks to my coaches and choreographers.

Q: Before the world record just two points, is it really hit them this season?
A: I didn't know that the world record was so close. This news makes me happy. Think I could skate a little better and prevent minor blots today [hmm… hypothetically?]. On the second jump was nearly a second leg, but I’ve resisted and didn’t do that way. Overall, I’m very happy with the routine. But we need to continue to work.

Q: Last year you won the Junir GPF in Barcelona, what was the difference between this event and that?
A: There were also very strong rivals then. But the difference is in the reception of the audience. Such ovations I hear for the first time. When I got up in the last pose in FS, I I almost went deaf. Immediately I realized that the people liked it.

Q: During those months you did a difficult way from junior skating to senior level. What has helped you to fit so fast?
A: In the offseason I’ve been worked a bit more on gliding and skating style than on jumps. I have remained approximate the same technical component as last year’s. But, I think by skating, by sliding, by emotions I started to skate much better and older. But this is still not enough because there is no limit to perfection.

Q: Your component scores are very high, had you any special work during summer?
A: Generally I worked on staging with choreographers. A lot of work was on steps and on expression. I hope it turned out.

Q: What was the most important for you in this event, what did you realize about yourself?
A: I need to work and fight in all life situations, not paying attention to anything.

Nothing special. The only one that matters is "honored master of sports". Yulia, Adelina, and Liza have it. You got to win Olympics or worlds to get it.

I don't really pay much attention to Juniors, so this is my first season really looking at Zhenya skate. And I've got to say she's wonderful, her style is delicate yet powerful. I had watched her performances at COR and SA, but she was on a whole different level at the GPF. And I adore both of her programs (I even downloaded the soundtrack of W.E. )
