I'm still very much a fan of OCS and think under different circumstances it would've absolutely worked for Zhenya. In the end one of the big problems this season is that everything for her has been changing. We all know the list: she's retooling her jumps after the injury and whatever other changes took place for her physically, she can't do most of her spins bc her back needs time to heal, she changed her coaching team and her country of residence after training in her hometown with the same coach for most of her career, she had to deal with all the drama around it... yes, as it turned out, throwing a completely unfamiliar kind of program at her on top of all that was a mistake.
I still stand by my opinion that she could've done OCS wonderfully, just not this season when there are so many other unfamiliar things on the ice for her. Wilson or not, I very much hope she tries a similar style again when she gets comfortable with herself once more.
Speaking of TSL interviews, they've also released a wonderful long interview with Kimmie Meissner and in part 2 she talks about her own coaching change drama and how it was for her and a lot of what she said about the way it knocked her out of balance mentally resonated with Zhenya's current situation for me. Not in the specifics of things that went down, but just in terms of her mental state. Especially when she talks about the way she completely fell apart at Nationals, despite being perfect in practice. It's a really interesting interview overall, so I highly recommend!
