Evgenia Medvedeva

Zhenya's mom said Brian was going with her to the Test Skates but not to Russian Nationals precisely because Japanese Nationals takes place at the same time. But I'm sure she'll get more than enough support with Tracy there, I would even bet David Wilson will go as well.

I would love it if David or Sandra went as well. She will need all the support she can get there! Although, I know she will be the bomb at Russian Nationals!

I’m sure he has worked with her as he works with many TCC skaters.

At ACI he said he doesn't train her directly atm, she only works with Brian, Tracy and Paige (spins) - he is a jump coach, so I'm sure he'll have given some suggestions along the way, but it seems like Brian and Tracy are the ones that are working with her the most.

Jump coach? I‘m sure he‘ll work with her at some point, too. At the moment I think they’re too many things going on they need to work on. But maybe he could help her with her lutz edge in the future. Maybe the off-season will be enough time to fundamentally change her technique. To me it seems her entrance to the lutz is different from what most skaters do. They usually start off an inside edge and then change to outside short before take-off. Zhenya however is gliding for a very long time on the outside edge, trying to hold it and then changes to inside slightly before she takes off. I‘m not a specialist and I have no practical knowledge, it‘s just something I noticed while watching her lutz and the ones of others.

I would also like to see David Wilson in Russian Nationals but will he be able to be there? Maybe he needs to be in Spain for Javi's show.

Anyway poor Tracy, she had to do live commentary on Zhenya's short program and now she's the one going to Nationals... I feel like she always gets the worst part 😂

Seriously what an experience for Tracy as a coach to have a student in Russian Nationals at this point in time. I am sure she never expected that.

It really seems like Zhenya really clicks well with the team at the Cricket Club, despite the language and cultural differences. She always mentions Tracy along with Brian when she talks about her training. I’m sure she’ll be in great hands with Tracy at Russian nationals.

I thought of some other gift ideas for Zhenya. The last time I was in Canada (it was Vancouver) the food prices were insane, especially produce. So I was thinking a whole foods gift card (there is one in Toronto) since she is on a path to eating healthier or an amazon gift card where you can buy everything now - to help with cost of living.

selections and pricing of amazon and whole foods in canada is a lot weaker than the US (IMO). get her something else as a gift

It is so encouraging to see how supportive her new team is of her. Tracy said that Brian (and presumably her) are with Evgenia for the long haul. As veteran elite coaches, that signals to me that they know Evgenia's goals are achievable and that they are invested in helping her achieve them. Most of all, they care about her well being.

When they leave TCC to go to Russia for the nationals, I am sure Evgenia is prepared as far as her programs go; at that point it is a mental game. And it is great that she will have Tracy (and whoever else) by her side.

Why do you think that Japanese Nationals have anything to do with this? As far as I saw Yuzuru isn't participating so why should Brian be in Japan? Maybe I mixed something up but I heard he'll stay in Toronto and...well, yes, just Tracy coming to Russia.

Yuzuru Hanyu is participating in the Japanese Nationals. Most recently, he alluded to maybe trying 4A during the Japanese Nationals.

Of course Yuzuru is participating in Japan natonals. It's already been announced beginning of the season Orser will go with Yuzuru to Japan nationals.

Hmm...okay. The list I found on the website of the ISU doesn't show his name yet and I am not u2d with all the news all over the web. So that got me confused.

There's no entry list for Japanese Nationals on the ISU site. Are you thinking of NHK Trophy? That's the GP event, not Nationals.

It's good to see Ghislain get more profile. He's worked a great deal with Yuzuru and they seem to have a good relationship from shat one can tell at competitions.

Ghislain and Brian were training mates when they skated competitively, and their base technique for jumps came from the same place (Doug Leigh at Mariposa) and has evolved as colleagues at TCC.

It sounds as though they have been trying to introduce Zhenya to a smaller group of TCC coaches to start. It's a 'lot of cooks' already to start.

However, I expect that Ghislain will be in the mix as time goes on.

. . .

By the way, does anybody else think that having Tracy at Russian Nationals may be a way to diffuse the Eteri-Orser media narrative.

Tracy is hard to profile as anything less than 'nice'.

I also think that Tracy may be getting her own papers from the RusFed while she's there.

Zhenya needs to have more than one TCC coach certified in case of unexpected impediments to his joining her at an ISU event.
