Evgenia Medvedeva

Hello Zhenya fans; another Jason fan (and now a Zhenya fan) here to say “take heart”.:hap10:

Jason said after Skate Canada that he could feel the tension between the new way of doing things and the old way in each and every jump, and he felt it was reflected in his performance. How much more Zhenya, in a totally new country and a totally new system for training! She was brave and strong to try it and this bravery will see her through.

Having skimmed through a fraction of the posts here, I just wanted to chime in to say that, all of the painstaking analyses aside, I have a deep and abiding belief in Evgenia’s ability to eventually work through her current struggles. She is one determined and intelligent young lady, with an inner core of strength. Her reaction and composure in the k&c and afterwards w TAT reflected this. While I’m sure she was disappointed, she appeared to me understanding and accepting of the fact that, yes, this is a work in progress that will take time, and that this competition will not define her despite all the hype. I’m with her all the way.

Maybe I'm mistaken .... but Zhenya doesn't fall in the practice season pre competition ... so maybe is just her head who are trying to adjust to everything

I don't want to belittle Orser but he seems so lost and confused. If he believes that he needs 1.5 years to get results with a new student why such reactions to Evgenia's faults when he is on the board. With Evgenia he looks totally different from when he is with Yuzuru. He looks so defeated and not like a coach you can rely on.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, I apologize to all Brian's fans

I don't think Brian realized the true competition in Russia. And the dynamics of training a Russian skater. But he and Zhenya have a good rapport, and I am hopeful the mistakes made this season won't be repeated.

So true Jeanie.

I would counsel anyone who is thinking that Brian didn't understand the dynamic in Russia, or understand what Zhenya needed, to listen to the interview with him that is posted in The Edge.

I understand that Zhenya holds herself to high standards (of course) and is disappointed so far.

Brian knows exactly what coaching a student with high standards entails;)

Evgenia can do all her jumps- she just has to figure out the mental aspect- both confidence in herself and in her technique. If Liza can have 3 bad seasons and return as strong as she is now so can Evgenia.

I hope she has a strong FS tomorrow. She has nothing to lose and a strong FS will let her leave this competition positively.

Wait a second - when Brian told Evgenia to stand up and wave, Evgenia looked like she did an audience wave*, instead of acknowledging the crowd that was clapping for her incessantly (and waving). She even went "whooohooo" and then literally did THE wave (though halfheartedly). That's hilarious!

Brian: come on, wave
Evgenia: huh, me?
Brian: yes
Evgenia: stands up and WAVES and says "whooohoooo" then sits down quickly

Evgenia is so endearing

(*The wave is an example of metachronal rhythm achieved in a packed stadium when successive groups of spectators briefly stand, yell, and raise their arms. <- from wiki - Evgenia did all that - briefly stood, yelled and raised her arms )

With her back pain and all her new combos I'm afraid today's FP is really going to become her low point. Of course, I would be glad to be proved wrong. I've just been thinking about Anna Pogorilaya and her back, and I'm worried.

First time poster, long time lurker.

Just wanted to drop this little gem in here.

As a fan of both Yuna and Evgenia I couldn’t help but notice the little similarities in these programs and the dresses themselves. Yuna’s program is one of my all time favourites and I can see Evgenia’s Tosca quickly becoming a favourite.
Wishing her all the luck in the world for her free skate. But at this point in the season I think I’m over worrying about her qualifying for Euros or World. Don’t get me wrong I would love to see her at both competitions. But I’m just really happy to watch her packaging and technique change. She looks airy, soft and absolutely beautiful. Just wait, if she can get those jumps landed and keep progressing this way I see her breezing through next season.

Welcome to Golden Skate!! I don’t think you can share a link on your first post so let’s see if I can help :)

Post often and post long ;)

Just saw the practice, she added extra 3T too. Hopefully we'll see the Zhenya fighter later ^_^
Also, TAT was there next to Brian for most of the practice session, and in the end gave them each a little skate toy (or something). :)

I just missed the practise. Literally tuned in as she was getting off. Anyone have a link to a reupload? That’s the only problem with the stream, you can’t rewind it.
