Evgenia Medvedeva

Guys don't panic! January is actually really popular among Russians for holidays (at least I meet Russians the most often in January :laugh: ). Maybe Evgenia and her mother are simply going for a holiday to some mountain resort to rest after what seemed to be really long few months. Or some warmer countries!

Flying to Germany for a medical check is a good guess. What I am concerned about is her training at CSKA right now and getting too much "support" from TAT.

Visiting a doctor in Germany makes perfect sense. Changing coaches again after having a “breakthrough” with Brian at Russian Nats does not.

What do you mean about getting two much support from TAT?

I was wondering the same thing.

Why would she need to go to Germany though? Doesn't she have her own personal physicians in Russia and or Canada?

Last that I heard, TAT is on vacation rn. & Russia doesn’t have too many sports specialists so the national team often goes to Germany for medical examination, treatment, surgery etc.

The more I think about, the stranger It gets. Because why not go wherever she has to and then go straight back to Canada instead of going back to Russia and staying there until Europeans? Why these dates?

Sure that TCC is full now with Javi preparing for Europeans, but that's where she trains. I mean they could pay less attention to her during these weeks, as she isn't going to Euros, but at least she would be in her trainning environment and with her coaching team... 🤔

Unfortunately it's one of those things where we will have to wait and see. This girls comment on Instagram could be wrong for all we know. For some reason I saw in my mind she is going to Germany or Switzerland. Now that people bring up the doctor, Germany it could be. I could be wrong though!

If she sticks around Europe it could be to do work with sponsors or see that doctor. Many athletes around the world go to him. I figured out who he was because on a TSL episode they said this doctor treats Usain Bolt.

Unless there is some other German doctor who has worked with him it is this guy:

Maybe setting the date as “until Europeans” has nothing to do with event itself but it was just a way to explain for how long she intends to stay in Europe. The other reason may be that she wants to cheer on her national teammates in Minsk and later come back with TCC crew to Canada. I wouldn’t really look for some strange theories and mysteries. After all she can have a life outside figure skating

I was thinking that maybe the Russian Federetion would like to check on her trainning until Europeans, to see her progress.
But I think the topic is closed 😂

Annnnd Doug Hawe is on TSL saying she is going back to Toronto this week [emoji23]

Just to add: he said she’d be back tomorrow or Tuesday, and that she’s preparing for some “world skate-off” after Europeans. (Maybe he means WTT?)

ETA: Nope, still listening. They’re talking about competing for a Worlds spot after Euros.

Three things to consider:

- Coaching time at The Cricket is now possibly scarce due to Javier Fernandez (for the Europeans) and Gabrielle Daleman (for the Canadian Championships) coming back for training;
- Commitments for her MTV Russia K-Pop show must be added into the mix;
- Very few International competitions in January.

So basically, the month is ideal for light, unstressed training, and filling off-ice obligations for those not expected to go at the Euros/US/CDN Championships.

Gabby's main coach is Lee Barkell so she probably doesn't take up much of Brian's time. However, Zhenya may need someone based in Russia to accompany her to any additional competitions she ends up doing since Brian or Tracy may not be able to commit to traveling for them.

Yep. I wonder if the mean something like test skates (where all skaters are) or just comparing how Euros, Zhenya's next comp results are.

I doubt that she is getting a treatment in Canada because it's very expensive as far as I know. Whether she has a personal physician in Russia, I don't know. But sport medicine in Germany is the best one in Western Europe and it's not that surprising that she gets examined there.

About my concerns on TAT - I was surprised that she was strictly watching Med during practises at RussNats, it looked more as if she was her coach and not just someone who is giving some random advices. I am worried because probably TAT and Yagudin were the ones who played a big role in Med's decision for moving abroad, which decision I still support, but what if she's giving her some other not so good advices? Also, I am wondering - why is Evgenia training at CSKA? She's still a Sambo student and she could have skated at their own rink, during practices of other coaches without Eteri's team. And moreover - how does she train without a coach? :confused: Tarasova is also slowly loosing her status in RusFed and she tends to make a lot of drama in the media, which in my opinion doesn't make Zhenya's reputation any favour. She was praising and lobbying for Radionova the same way some years ago, and Lena ended nowhere.

Off topic and random but...anyone noticed how Michelle Kwan has started liking Zhenya's posts on Instagram? I hope she has spoken to her and that they've talked about how earning silver isn't the end of the world, and that you can be a successful and prolific skater without gold.

I hope not.. imagine all the bad russian press centering around the coaching situation when neither of your top 2 coaches can make a competition.

On training at CSKA, it could be to avoid any bumping into or friction with Eteri. Or with the other coaches who support Eteri over at Sambo.
As for training without a coach, Yuzuru does that everytime he's in Japan. The longest was after the 2014 COC incident, a few months. They are adult skaters, no longer juniors who need supervision.
