Evgenia Medvedeva

it's a mystery especially what the cska girl said.

Did we ever figure out if the Russian Federation is paying Brian Orser or if it's Zhenya herself?
Evgenia, the Russia Fed guy answered in an interview.
Russia Fed currently pays for Evgenia's apartment in Canada & flight tickets.

I thought the last time this issue came up, no one knew what Evgenia and Rusfed were paying?

1) The minister has nothing to do with this situation, it's just journalistic nonsense.

2) Kogan, in fact, quietly declined to answer:

Jornalist: - I know that in the American swimming coaches are willing to invite strong foreigners, but they do it primarily for sparring. But if someone from the national team leaders turns to you with a request to allow him to train outside of Russia, will the FFKKR pay for such a project?

Kogan: - Let's talk about it if this happens. Now I want to say something else: all our coaches are able to train skaters to the highest level. Everything else is a feature of the situation. And if some athlete prefers to be in a weaker group and be there a star - this's his right, but it is unlikely that this will significant result.

This has already happened - Zhenya in Canada. So, Kogan puts her situation beyond the brackets (Russian idiom, I hope you have it too). He decided to interpret the journalist's question as follows: “What will happen when it becomes a systematic phenomenon?” and replies “When it becomes, then we will talk about it. And in fact it will not - all our coaches are able... ”

I think it is unlikely that Evgenia does not get any form of subsidy. That said, it is very likely that none of those involved (RusFed / Ministry / Sambo / private sponsors) would want to publicize how she gets funding because it might encourage others to seek the same path.

What Zhenya program or YouTube posting, do you watch the most right now? I love the Taxi commercial, I hope we never lose that link.

Video clip with Kristian Kostov for TV1 NYE program. It’s just my esthetic and I’m Eurovision nerd so it was great New Year’s gift for me ;)

I‘m currently taking a trip on memory lane and am in the middle of rewatching little Zhenya from 2013 and 2014. It‘s amazing how much she grew both technically and artistically.

Btw, in her junior days, she was never “the chosen one“. People said she had terrible skating skills and were angry that she won the bronze at Junior Worlds over Satoko Miyahara because “she‘s a skater that would never make it to Euros or Worlds anyway“. Well, her skate there certainly wasn‘t her best but we‘ve seen how she didn‘t ever make it to Euros and Worlds, right? I think even though she struggles right now and many have given up on her... she‘s a fighter and she made it from being the least promising junior of her group to Junior Worlds champion the next season and sweeping the senior ranks in the following years. So, in conclusion: Don‘t give up on that girl. She‘s made of tough stuff. And she‘ll find her way somehow. It will be interesting to see where it takes her but in the end, she‘ll reach her goals. :)

For me: her RusNats FS and Passion Gala Tosca.

Love the RusNats FS because I could see her getting her mojo back :) That facial expression as she starts the step sequence to Libertango, LOVE IT! Also, that slow motion replay of all the flowers thrown on the ice while she was standing there... FS royalty!

Passion Gala Tosca because I could feel the emotions of the music through her movements. It's just so good. Again, that step sequence, WOW. I really hope to see more of it THIS season.

Loved that moment 😍. Like Dough Haw said: she went from zero to hero!

I'm rewatching her FS from Nationals and her yandex add.

I'm mostly rewatching the Beautiful Mess program. It's just beautiful. Also the FP from Russian nationals and that rose-throwing slo-mo moment is my fave :D

Until recently (something like from before IDF until Russian nationals) I was watching and rewatching the gala piece she had at Worlds 2017 but the TAT Anniversary one, it's probably my favourite, the most dream-like thing ever!

I think Anna Karenina from the Olympics is the one I've watched the most though, especially since at first there was only a fan cam one and it always made me feel like I'm right there and it kept being too emotional for me for a long time.

The passion gala Tosca I'm watching it right now. It is great

I actually really like her FP from 2013/2014. She was so cute and tiny.

She’s still so cute and tiny, but I think she’s been showing a much more mature side of herself with this season’s programs.

You mean this one? Yeah, I love it too. She looked so small and cute! I wasn‘t trying to say her program from 2013/14 was bad because it was by no means and I like it a lot. But she sometimes lacked confidence and it was visible. Even the year after that she looked a lot older and a lot more confident too!

Just look at this... she‘s so sad and disappointed, thinking she‘s off the podium. In the end she got bronze. In generally, the changes she made from this season to the next in her skating were unbelievable.

This is one year later. She shows both musicality and a fun side to her personality with the program, she looks confident and in control.

In re-read the goldenskate threads from that time. During her first junior season everyone was like “meh“ about her and her skating, she was the weakest link of the juniors, overshadowed by Sotskova, Sima, Proklova and Radionova. She also only got the worlds spot because Sotskova couldn‘t go due to injury and many were angry it was her who‘d been sent instead of Proklova! Well, she worked so hard in the off-season and charged onto the scene as a new Evgenia the next year. More confident, improved and secure.

So, what I‘m trying to say is, that, even if Zhenya struggles right now, we will see her with confidence and in control again. Maybe not flawlessly and maybe it won‘t be next year, but we will. Because she‘s a fighter. :)

I agree. She knows how to regroup and fight.
