Evgenia Medvedeva

Jason talks about training with Zhenya here @ 6:55 https://youtu.be/48LCEkj5IRc

So sweet! I'm so happy that she has him as a friend and training mate, he seems so lovely

I love that he says he learned how to keep focus before competitions from her, because that's something he struggled with. Meanwhile, Zhenya mentioned she's learning to be a bit less "in the zone" and pay a bit more attention to her environment before competition, because she's been retreating into herself too much. And you know, she has Jason to learn that from. So both can benefit from seeing each other's very different approaches and both can find a good balance. I love that!

New interview with Brian from Euros:
https://m.sport-express.ru/figure-s...niya-medvedeva-brayan-orser-intervyu-1505684/

Relevant information about Zhenyaf
- she trains 2-3 hours on the ice every day
- Brian greatly respects TAT and always asks for her for some input when he gets the chance, which is why they were seen talking this much during practice sessions at RusNats. Overall, he values getting advice from other experts
- Brian was disappointed after Zhenya's SP because he saw how hard she trained and what she can do. But the most memorable thing was the support from the audience that she got. Brian was floored by how well-loved she is. Says it's also a big responsibility for the skater, similar to Yuzuru. As a champion, you have to forget everything and skate well.
- she remained in Moscow to treat her back and because she needed to remain under medical observation for a bit. She still needed to train, so Brian asked TAT and Buyanova to take care if that [provide her with ice time, presumably], because he trusts and respects them. He has a good working relationship with rusfed and is acquainted with many Russian coaches.
- finally, gets asked if Zhenya has any financial problems and didn't go back to Canada because of that and Brian says he doesn't talk about his students' money (duh)

Just chiming in to add that if they were acupuncture patches which they looked like, they wouldn’t necessarily go on the spot where the pain source is located. Acupuncture often treats one part of the body by inserting needles in a different spot (because of the way the body is holistically treated in acupuncture). So I wouldn’t try to diagnose based on the location of the patches. When I injured my lumbar spine, my acupuncturist alleviated a lot of the pain with half a dozen needles in the back of my hands. It seemed strange but it worked. Could be her upper back but could also be another spot aggravating her.

I experienced the same with acupuncture and though the same. TAT gave her those patches though so unless she dabbles in Chinese medicine on the side and knows meridians, I would just guess that she put them directly on the injury site. Maybe one day we will find out :)

I hope 15-20 years from now, Evgenia will write an autobiography, and address all these mysteries! ;) I would pay a pretty penny for that!

Guys, what layout do you think Evgenia will have for RCF? Do you think there's any chance we will see her 3S-3Lo combo in the short?

Her back injury was first mentioned in this video after the Olympics. Can someone translate the exact words about the injury?

From my very limited understanding: she had to head into the Games with an injury but this didn't stop her. There was an information from Zhenya's close circle of acquaintances that the injury was located in her spine. And the doctors have recommended not to train for at least 2 months after the Olympics. Then Zhenya says that (at the time of the interview) she was about to set off to Germany for a medical observation and that it will depend on what the doctors say whether she would be able to continue her trainings or not.

Of course, any native speaker should feel free to correct me.

I do not think that we will see it in the short. That would lower her base value too much imo.

Actually 3S-3lo in the SP could raise her base value.

3S-3lo, 2a, 3f is worth 17.8 points
while 3F-3T, 2a, 3lo is worth 17.7 points

She should probably just keep the RusNats layout, though.

Lol you are right. I forgot to add the 3F in my calculation haha I just straight up exchanged the Salchow combo for the 3F combo without adding the 3F again and then I wondered why so many points were missing haha. I blame my carlessness on my lack of sleep for the past two weeks.

I think changing the layout would just be too confusing. They have been changing so many layouts for the SP and FS this season and she just got a new SP, she needs some stability to get used to the programs and layouts. I like the current layout of her programs.

True - they have reshuffled the layout too many times.

But I was thinking, it would fit perfectly where she has her 3 Lo now - so its at the second half, thus, would receive the bonus. If she got the same score as in her RusNats FS for a 3S+3T, she will get 11.58 (with the bonus), which is slightly lower than the 11.96 she got for 3F+3T (in the second half of her FS) in Skate Canada. Anyway, these are just musings of someone who is so excited to see her compete

I actually wouldn't personally mind if she made 3s3lo her go-to triple triple and keeps competing it in LP & SP but Russian Cup may be not be the best place to try that out. I just hope she is well trained, as healthy as possible, and ready to compete whatever layout they decide to go with. We still have quite a while before she competes and I miss seeing her skate. I'm really excited to see her programs and her lovely new dresses she had at RusNats :)
