Evgenia Medvedeva

Many thanks zblc015 for your insightful analysis. I deeply love figure skating but am a profane of the sport. I find it very helpful when someone who is technically knowledgeable compares the performances of the top skaters and helps me to understand the scores. When it is done in a respectful way as you did, it is most appreciated.

You're welcome!

If I remember correctly, not long ago, another TCC skater was given a wrong call by the judges...

It’s a shame that her scores were clearly messed with. She got off the ice just scraping under 40 and ended on 36. That’s a lot to lose, especially when the person sat in front of you wobbled on nearly every jump. (No tea, no shade, just facts) Also what is it about training with a certain coach that sends these judges loopy on the PCS? We aren’t really saying that 2nd and 3rd are equal in that respect are we? I hope not. Anyway she is in a strong position for the fs, all we have to do now is to support her and know that she will skate clean! She can do it and she will do it! :luv17:

Thank you for the link. Unless I am mistaken, the commentator is Tatiana Tarasova. Is anyone proficient enough in Russian to share with us what she is saying with such passion when Evgenia gets her score in the Kiss & Cry?

Well, in the end, I can‘t deny that I‘m upset. Because I am. Which is crazy if we think how her season went. Could any of us have thought she‘d sit in 4th at Worlds after GP France? No. So, yes, it is an amazing achievement that she was clean today.

However, the judging was again unfair and that‘s a problem. I‘m not going to name anyone but PCS scores were very weird for some. I‘m not talking about UR of Zhenya (because it was UR) but PCS and uncalled jumps of others. Zhenya is in 4th and she‘s breathing down the neck of the leaders. All in all, I‘m not hoping for a medal anymore because chances look slim given how the scoring went today (not for her in particular but others and their suddenly increased scores). But that‘s not what matters in the end. What matters is that she puts out two clean performances and gets a SB. If she manages to do that, I will be happy and proud regardless of how the ultimate placements will look like.

Just watched her short programme on German Eurosport, and they were so full of praise for her.
I can't get over the UR though☹ she will be robbed off a medal in the end, I fear

I am upset as well. Zhenya deserved to be in the Top 3. I hope she does not feel discouraged and can nail her FS tomorrow.

Small interview with Zhenya:
https://tass.ru/sport/6239099

"I had doubts about my combo - it wasn't good. But I'm glad to have finished the program without any serious mistakes. That's good for me at the moment. Sure, I performed twice as good at practice sessions, but step by step I have to overcome myself and I'm on the way."

"I have fulfilled all my dreams as an athlete - I was at the Olympics, I've won everything twice. There are people who dream to go to the Olympics and I'm absolutely happy. What I'm doing now, I'm doing for myself, my family, the audience and the history of figure skating."

About the FP:

"To be honest, I'm someone who's always very careful at competitions. I've always been that way, during my previous World Championships as well. I'll try not to verdo it, and I have to show my all, skate clean and also finish the programs with positive emotions."

I am imagining things, but watching her skate with TAT's commentary, it was a bit like they were giving speaches at her retirement.:luv17::laugh: I'm sure it wasn't meant like that, just all those ' she will stay in history forever', 'no matter what, she will always be remembered... gave me that vibe.

Love her statement. I think it's honest. I could see in her face that she was't 100% happy. But I'm so proud of her.
I always hated the judges in FS. Although it's not as bad as it used to be it's still unfair at times as we could see today.
I'm so worried about the FS

I‘ve accepted it. To be honest, I didn‘t even consider a medal a possibility in the beginning, so it‘s not that bad. Really, let‘s just be proud of what Zhenya did today. Her 3F looked exactly like some of the earlier ones she did this season and she would never have tacked on a 3T before. She didn‘t pop, she didn‘t fall. She is right behind the top 3. Maybe her chances to medal aren‘t as great, but who cares. (I do and we all do of course because it would be just amazing to see her with a medal) but in the end the most important thing is that she got a SB for the SP and the FS is still ahead. She fought. She will fight on Friday. I‘m happy and proud. Standing on the podium after such a rough season would be a fairytale ending but alas, we don‘t always get those endings. But if we can see Zhenya happy and proud of her skate with a SB and clean skates, then it‘s a wonderful ending to this season, indeed. We didn‘t even think she would be at Worlds and here we are with her sitting in fourth and a clean SP. Let‘s be happy about this.

Go, Zhenya!! Good luck for the FS. Just fight like you did today and everything will be fine.

Also: her interview was very mature and honest and I‘m glad she said what she said. This is exactly the right attitude to have.
