Figure Skating Anime

We'll have to disagree I guess, I don't think it's stupid at all. At 23 he's an older skater to have his break-through and when he finally managed to get to top tier of men, he ended up last. Objectively, of course it's not bad, on the contrary but on the other hand, he's an athlete and this is a sport. He wants to win and time is going tick tock. The younger R-Yuri represents that, the brilliant youth that just keeps coming. If he had finished in the top three, say third, it would have been different but to someone already shaky when it comes to self-esteem, this would just be a heavy blow. And he knew he could do better and that his nerves got to him, but that just adds salt to the wound. You can see in his interaction with R-Yuri that he knows he's a good skater. But that doesn't mean much if you cannot conquer your demons when push comes to shove. Gracie is a good skater. Means diddly squat really right now. Hanyu is a great skater, that silver gutted him.

So at this moment, that he's focused on winning is perfectly normal for me, he sees that as redemption. I don't think it'll end that way though but we'll have to wait and see.

You're free to disagree. It's better if audience have different views, after all we're all different individuals. :) But If J-Yuri presonality is that the most important for him winning, then I don't like it at all. I prefer if skaters skate because they like it, not for winning. Of course, as athletes they fight for win, but it shouldn't be the only reason they're doing it. And from what you have written about Yuri it looks like it. Which is funny, because we all know Victor has lost motivation after winning it all many times. But that's what happening if you only think about winning, even if you're good at what you're doing. If the skating was what they love, they wouldn't have lost motivation to continue after losing/winning. So I find that part of plot (if it's like you're saying) a little stupid and even more sad. I prefer when athletes choose discipline because they like it, not because they see titles they can win. That's my interpretation. I know he had low self-esteem, but from what I uderstood it was also from terrible Nationals. I get it he needed some time off ice, but I don't like his motivation is winning GPF, not even being the best, just some "tilte", oh well. I'd rather his motivation was a new found love for skating or even money, that at least would be very realistic reason to strive for a win. I think Victor motivation to stay involved in skating is much better... I actually didn't think much about this anime before discussion, I was watching it for pure entertainment, but if we're talking seriously, then that's what I think.

It's not really a spoiler so six skating sequences today and more new skaters (and really good music for the programs)! :hap10: It should be up in about an hour and a half.

If people thought there were too much fan service in the first 5 episodes... please be very careful watching this new one. Some of the internal dialogue/thoughts... :o::o::o:

Some of the internal dialogue was rather adult today!

But I am beyond happy, because Leo - I know who Leo is. (And I think we all know who his coach is too). Leo is Jason, but he is not Jason, he is also Joshua; and it made me smile so much.

Don't you dare crash the LP Yuuri. And Georgi is flipping creepy.

So this is how it's gonna be? Everybody's after Yuuri? :laugh2

I cannot with this show, it's going to kill me one day

Episode 6

I know, right? Victor and Yuuri got hitched at some point and we missed the wedding, and now everybody's unashamedly gloriously gay! And, Giacometti thought's during his skate? I was dying already but the conclusion just killed me dead.

Ok, I kinda love Grigori. He's so impossibly, unrealistically over-the-top (spoiler: An ice-skater dumped me? I will hook up with guys and do a program in which I portray an evil witch who destroys love! Or was it an evil witch who cannot be saved because love doesn't exist? I don't remember but both are cool with me! ) that if he were real, he'd be my fav by far.

Costumes! Omg costumes! :laugh2: The internal monoluges! The victory through the power of love!

And.... clean skates by 5 out of 6 top skaters? Let me live in that beautiful world!

One thing though: Where's R-Yuri's competition? Don't tell me R-Yuri is going to show up onoy for the GPF? Argggh, what a missed opportunity. They could have at least shown J-Yuri watching R-Yuri and commenting!

Yes, I was thinking that about Leo too! He's really sweet, I'm kind of glad there are no true bad guys in the anime, usually there's at least someone being underhanded but so far not here. On the contrary, most of them are quite nice. The Chinese kiddo is a little darling.
Oh yes, I do think there's a high chance J-Yuri's FS might go wonky.

It's truly something how we've progressed and we're only half way there. I also get the feeling they're already in a relationship and it isn't even a question. But I loved how what gets Yuuri going is the idea of losing Victor, when Giacometti put the idea of everyone wanting Victor back in his head and bam. Where has the little shy katsudon from episode one gone? I highly approve.

Ok, I kinda love Grigori.

Tbh, I think I died over Grigori even more than Giacometti. It just had that shade of the theatrical and drama and I live for that stuff. Yes, he's creepy but in that melodramatic, hilarious, so over the top way!

They both got assigned CoR, so we'll see R-Yuri directly going against J-Yuri even before GPF.

Oh yes, knew there was something. They totally went above Yuzuru's SP number at NHK when he broke the SP WR first time last season. Go Yuuri!

Ufff, that's so good that we'll get R-Yuri soon. I miss him

About Grigori, I just saw this on tumblr (needs the basic knowledge of the Worst Harry Potter Fanfic Ever to appreciate, though):

Grigori (in witchy makeup): My name is Gregori Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way

:laugh2:

Spoilers......
Looks like Yuri underrotated his 4S...
Damn...Yuzu, Javi, and Patrick need to get those jumps consistent now. Yuri's score is on the rise! LOL

Btw, Grigori basically borrowed Lena's Zombie costume.

this is gonna sound mean but I'm hoping for the LP segment to be a splatfest

I caved and finally watched it. The animation isn't perfect, but the story is great. I really like both Yuri's, so different but so fun.

My biggest frustration isn't that fan service, but that Yuri and Victor are clearly not getting together and they keep teasing them together. Not fair at all. Their relationship is inspiring and seductive in a way. I don't normally ship, I really like Victor and Yuri together.

The animation really have beautiful moments but some of the skating animation in this episode seemed stiffer or choppier than usual. Maybe it was taxing animating 6 or so different routines and they seemed to give the most care to Yuri. But I'm not complaining since many animated tv shows have to deal with the same issues.

I swear they made a very very crude joke thos episode
And i quote the Swiss Skater in his final spin 'i think i'm going to c...'

This episode was amazing. We got everything.

Georgi probably raided Ekaterina Bobrova's old (any over the top dramatic Free Dmace before 2012-13 season) costume wardrobe.

Well, I watched the first episode, but I can't say it did much for me. It was funny though how they copied all of Patrick Chan's spins for the fantasy program they came up with. Get those details!
