Figure Skating Anime

Or maybe we all need to scour the episode again looking for anime!Deniss in a cameo...

Which makes me wonder: how long ago was that cameo recorded? I remember photos of Stephane and Deniss watching the show pretty early on. Did they watch it because they were part of making it or did they, or rather Stephane, get invited to make the cameo because they were known fans? Is it possible to add a cameo last-minute? Yuzuru on the magazine cover must have been a last-minute addittion/change but a single tiny panel is probably no problem to add, unlike inviting a person to record a part.

Does anyone know?

Maybe around NHK Trophy?

I'm actually pretty sure this was being made week-by-week. It's entirely probable that the Stephane cameo came about because of his and Deniss' interest.

The cameo was recorded during Stéphane's and Deniss' stay in Japan for Daisuke's "Christmas on Ice" show, which both of them took part in last weekend. Not sure how long in advance they approached Steph though, but I can imagine it had sth. to do with them tweeting about watching YoI. Kenji knew about Stephane's stay in Japan ahead of time, because he (Kenji) choreographed the original numbers for XOI (including Dai's & Steph's duet), so he likely informed Kubo/Yamamoto about it. At least that's my best guess...

I have to assume that Evgenia will be in season 2. They HAVE to figure out a way to work her in somehow. I mean come on!

Wait. So that's it? The series is over?

They could have done at least till World's .:con3:

if you watch til the very very end, it says "see you NEXT LEVEL" which implies that there will be a second season! they hinted at 4CC and worlds a lot so im pretty sure they will cover that second half of the season and i heard some rumours saying it will come out in 2017.

well i know that in south park, they make the episode week by week, and on election week (the new episode came out the very next day) they actually had to redo the episode and change the title because they were expecting hillary to win, so the pretty much did the grunt of that redone episode the day it was going to be released. so i can definitely see them doing the lambiel voice over thing being done the day before or that very same day it was to be released. animation runs very tight. the south parks creators were even saying how even though they have to do an episode pretty much from scratch in 1 week, a lot of times they might not be able to find inspiration until like 2 or 3 days until the episode is supposed to be released (in which case a lot of their team is pretty much just begging them to come up with something in order to get the job done lol). it's not uncommon nor impossible.

and im pretty sure they invited him to guest star because they saw him and deniss watching the show lol.

johnny weir made a tweet about how the "douchiest thing ive said in 2016 is 'i don't guest star, i star exclusively'. i said no to a 3-way." or something like that. im absolutely certain he was referring to the lambiel and deniss thing so im guessing johnny was asked to guest star. i find it pretty sad that he didn't take up the offer though (im hoping he had some legit conflicts and that the tweet was just a joke) since he seems to be a very good fan of the show.

where was deniss' appearance though? did he say something? i don't remember lol. or maybe johnny was referring to oda but he's japanese so i don't really see it as "offensive" since it'd be more normal for oda to guest star than say lambiel.

and where is this yuzuru magazine thing people are talking about? D: i did not notice!

South Park is a different animal from most animated shows. Because of the art style that the creator's chose, South Park can make an episode very quickly and at times that's been useful as they would have an episode dedicated to something that happened the week before or even less. I'm not sure what Yuri on Ice is like, but it looks like a standard animated show where it takes months to animate an episode. An episode of Steven Universe takes about 8-9 months to animate in comparison to South Park.

Lambiel's voice over was a quick snippet of dialogue and a small number shots of animation, so I'm sure they were able to add that one fairly quickly.

no, with anime they work on a week-to-week schedule as well. for american animations it's usually longer especially if they're using cgi or 3d type of stuff, but i know for a fact that for japanese anime they typically work on a week-to-week schedule too.

Oh. I was unsure because it seemed to show it as completed when searching it up on wiki, unlike the Attack on Titan which don't have a completion date featured.

Thanks for the insight! Maybe Johnny will agree to guest star next season then? I love seeing real people get animated, though I think they did better job on Oda than Stephane. Animated Stephane was nowhere near as good lookun as the real one!

There's one shot in which JJ is standing around talking to his girlfriend and holding a magazine, and on the cover you can see Yuzuru in his purple Prince costume doing a JJ pose : http://annabeth7895.tumblr.com/post/154816905946/i-dont-know-if-anyone-noticed-thisbut-thats

Anyone else noticed the amount of new fans this show has garnered for FS? People who used to tease me for being so obsessed are now scrambling to learn all the technical details of the IJS. I woke up yesterday and literally everything on the internet was YOI! I really hope this show helps gets more people in the USA interested in the sport and NBC and sponsors will take notice...

It is obvious how many new fans there are if you look at the videos on Youtube. There are many videos where the top comments are all related to YOI and to each comment there are hundred/s of likes.:eeking: Most of them are Yuzuru videos, though (his Olympics videos are ruined forever :palmf:)
I don't know much about anime fans, are they generally 10-19 years old? Or older? And how many people watch Yuri on Ice, is there any data? Even if only 10% of them search for FS videos and eventually fell in love with the sport then I think it is totally worth it.

There is still no confirmation on season two and it's doubtful it'll happen before the February event but considering everything, including the more than likely altering of ep12, I'd say it's a go. It's just a massive hit and the author is for it, so nothing is stopping them.

Go lower. Think 13-16yo girls, huge numbers. YOI also has a slice of the older audience thanks to the fact the protagonists are adults so it would be interesting to see some actual figures (don't think we ever will though) but it has definitely attracted the kids too and that is where the more unfortunate content is coming from for the most part. They are still learning the boundaries.

I think the majority of audience is consisting of teenage girls, like Evgenia. She's the perfect example of what most YoI fans are. I had an anime mania in that period of life too, so I can relate ;) Of course, there is different part of audience too, like we are, the figure skating fans, but mostly it's about hot guys and fan service :p
