Finnish national championships (12th-14th December)

OMG Iida. She slayed, FP was completely clean, 130+. Olivia had some mistakes, 181+. Iida will skate at the Europeans.

I got the same scores. OMG, Iida slayed her FP 130+. Completely clean. That was an incredible skate. Olivia unfortunately had some mistakes today, 116+ but well done anyway. What a fight!
Olivia is a lovely person. Instead of being upset she just said "ok good scores with that skate".

I think Iida got the EC spot anyway, as she went to Zagreb+these scores are enough.

I would have liked to see the medal ceremony but the broadcasting finished. :frown: or will it be later?
True, Iida got the spot by 3,24 points. Wow. I guess victory ceremonies will not be streamed later in TV either.

Yes, I of course if it is later or elsewhere than on the ice it will cannot be broadcasted. How it usually is at nationals, do you know?

I can't remember did Solidsport stream them, sorry. And I can't remember when the nationals were live streamed in YLE arena earlier. Maybe never?

Some years ago nats were sent at Ruutu+ and I bough it but I don't remember either.

Men were step up from last couple of years. We still didn't see clean 3A/quad, but at least we saw credible attempts. Previous years the guys have struggled with 3Lutz. Future looks promising, for long we have been carried by Dr Steelblade, and finally challengers look like they are passing him by. Poor Valtteri looked gassed after his program 😮‍💨
Though, it's somewhat unfortunate we are now sending another Dune to ECh. I liked Makar's program more, though Lindfors was deserving winner.

Women:
*Janna Jyrkinen: oh no 😥
* Selma Välitalo: oh noooo....'Myrskyluodon Maija' is so beautiful program, my favourite Finnish single this season, but she fluffed EVERY jump. Well, there is next year.
*Oona, Linnea...hey this looks good, oops, there's the cactus.
*Why is this such a splatfest...? Oh, we were just waiting for "Lida". Contest is over, hand her the gold medal. 🤯
*Okay maybe let Olivia skate too. Well, she's also good. But she would have needed to nail everything today to win, and she didn't. Good job anyways 🦎

Ice dance...well, both top pairs were somewhat below last years' shape. It's understandable. Ivanitskij/Sperry have improved (although Sperry had some weird stumbles today). Kinda weird that points were almost exact same as last year. Anyway, I'm happy we'll send all three.

Who has the Euros spot for men? Matias has a higher senior SB than Valter and has won your nationals. Does that mean Matias goes to Euros now, or will they send Valter to Euros still and just send Matias to junior worlds? Makar Suntsev has higher scores than Valter as well?

Finland made the selections immediately after nationals. Who won nationals is not criteria, scores from nationals is more important but not the criteria either.

Women: Iida Karhunen
Subsitutes in order: Olivia Lisko, Linnea Ceder

Men: Matias Lindfors
Subsitutes in order: Makar Suntsev, Valtter Virtanen

ID: Juulia TurkkilaMatthias Versluis, Yuka OriharaJuho Pirinen, Daniela IvanitskiyMatthew Sperry

The selection criterias singles link in Finnish can be checked here is pure math so after typing the scores to the calculation sheet, they could announce the selection.

statistics

Yhe criterias in singles are:

- Two best scores of the season counted together. Accepted scores are nationals, qualification to nationals, Olympig qualification and international ISU competitions.

- Other criterias for Euros are At least one of accepted scores must be GP, CS or olympic qualifiacion and one must be reached between 1st Noverber-14th December.

So for example, if skaters' best scores are from small international competition and nationals, she/he will not be selected if somebody else has lower scores based on criterias. Olympic and Worlds are kind similar, but for Worlds the nationals is not counted as another competition must be after 1st January and another CP, CS, olympic qualification or Euros. So practically other's CS scores are so low so Worlds spot is between Iida and Olivia.

Our commentators said anybody can go to Worlds, but it is not true, because it means others need so huge scores that no other skater can reach it even with a clean skaters with best levels as they do not have high CS scores. They would need quads and 3As to reach that score. I wonder did they just want to keep the excitiment or have they not read the rules.

There are also ifs as the rules say "fed can also choose another skater from a good reason". ID has a little bit different criterias. T/V do not fill the criterias, but in case of them they use a if-sentence because of an understandable reason.

To nationals. I feel so sorry for Selma. She would have needed just to skate like at Finlandia, even not full clean and bronze would have been hers. Her nerves must have taken her as she was a position she did not expect. She has potential and before nationals I was thinking she may be the one who will get bronze.

Edit: I just noticed that skater must choose between JWC/WC. So, if Matias will get WC minimums and want to goes there, somebody else will go to JWC. But - there are ifs. Probably if nobody else gets the minimums, I suppose in that case a skater who possible have both, can be selected to both. Cases like this the ifs in critecias can be used, I think. But probably Makar has better chance to get the WC minimums if he can jump his 3As clean in an international competition. I think he already once did.

Iida's name is on the JWC list, I think it is a mistake because one competition must be international junior competition this season based on the rules. Or they have decied to use an "if" because Iida has best chances be at top10 and secure two spots.
