Gracie Gold

:hijacked: ;)

I didn't think his comments about Josh were particularly bad, simply that he has a hard time brushing off mistakes. Dave seemed to be trying to get him to say something negative about Josh's work ethic (which Dave has made comments about in the past, and I don't know enough about Josh personally to know if those criticisms are valid or not.) But Alex didn't take the bait and instead commented on how he has seen Josh handle mistakes. It didn't seem especially negative to me. He also expressed his opinion that hypothetical clean-Jason-with-a-quad beats clean-Josh-with-a-quad which I didn't think was any worse than his observation that a clean Hanyu beats clean Javier. And I obviously  Josh but didn't think any of his comments about him were especially nasty.

On the other hand, he made a bit of a snide comment about seeing a photo of Gracie with a celebrity and wondering if she's actually training. In addition, the joke he made about Gracie training 3A and/or 4S and how she must have a real sense of humor about it wasn't kind, especially when he so diplomatic about explaining why he doesn't think Ashley will ever get a 3A.

Overall though it was a fun interview and I really enjoyed it and learned from it.

More :hijacked:

And actually, the Joshua Farris comments only came AFTER Dave was basically trying to challenge Alex's assertions about Jason's skating/skill, etc. Alex did not volunteer his opinion on Josh, Dave asked him. He did say that he felt Josh had a mature style of skating, so there's a compliment.

Back to Gracie -- I think it would have been great to bring Alex to talk about the men and another coach to talk about the ladies. Their break-up (lack of a better term) is not even two years, so the bitterness and/or unresolved issues are still probably there.

Actually maybe Tammy Gamill might have been interesting -- Karen Chen is one of her students, but she isn't coaching any of the ladies who were at WTT. Or Angela Nikolov, who is a coach and obviously a former Nationals medalist.

eh? the guy is her boyfriend?

Tim Koleto, Gracie Gold, and Carly Gold all went on vacation together last year as well.

My impression is that he has been a dear platonic friend of the Golds for years.

And yes, he is an ice dancer. Coached by Shpilband. Koleto no longer is with his Korean partner. I believe he has a new partner from Norway.

He formerly was a singles skater for the U.S.

Nothing resembling a boyfriend here, folks -- AFAIK.

I often find myself wondering what programs Gracie will have next season. I hope she skates to something inspired that will showcase her strengths and help set her apart from everyone else.

In case anyone wanted to see Gracie in Sun Valley this summer:

The SV listing for August 1 has been changed to TBA.
The SV site says, "Due to unforseen [sic] circumstances Gracie Gold is not able to perform on this date."

(But August 1 in SV still is listed on Gracie's own site.)

I hope it is just a schedule conflict, and not injury.

Thx, Doris. Me, too. (Sorry, I intended to include such a comment in my post above, but stupidly forgot to :bang:.)

Maybe she decided to enter a competition taking place around the same time?

Oh no, I hope her stress fracture hasn't come back! PLEASE say she is entering an early senior B or something

The dates of Glacier Falls are Jul 29-Aug 2, for example -- if Gracie decided she wanted to compete there perhaps??

(Colorado Championships Jul 30-Aug 2.)
