I take it all back, Alton Brown

I've eaten pickled bowhead whale skin and blubber. *shrug* It's sort of an anthropologist pissing contest--if someone brings back weird stuff from a field trip, you have to try it or you lose face. The blubber was fine--fat tastes good pretty much wherever it comes from. The skin was like chewing on your cuticles.

I would really just love to see the presenter eating at a normal place, and just really not liking what they ordered and being honest about it.

Interesting story.

- back to the Chef thing, I totally disagree with those that say Alton would not be called a chef.

He has been trained.

His job is to run the "kitchen"

He has a staff.

He dictates "meal plan" and training etc....

So other than some saying Chef is not a term of endearment, I will say with out doubt Alton is a Chef. I don't mean that as to say he is a "great" but rather because it UNDOUBTEDLY fits the criteria of being "deemed" a Chef by sheer responsibilities. The ONLY difference is that he is not working in a restaurant.

When I was in college, the gang used to hit Denny's at 2AM after a night of dancing. Most of us ordered gravy & fries, grilled Cheese, ice cream sundaes, sandwiches/burgers or soup. However, one of my friends thought nothing about ordering the liver & onions.

I want ketchup on my fries any day. Years ago, I thought it sounded terrible but my kids kept eating it so I tried it and I liked it.

In the culinary-school-food-snob use of the term, Alton isn't a chef. However, one could certainly call him a TV chef.
Alton Brown says in his books and on several shows that he's "not a chef." He's more like "Bill Nye, the Science Guy" for foodies. I love Alton, although I don't always agree with his methods. For example, after cooking the bacon in the oven, he wants you to drain the grease by putting it over a rack. Sorry, paper towels work better and are easier cleanup.

Count me in as an addict of the food network - in fact it's on right now, lol.

Can't get enough - Giada, Paula, Barefoot Contessa, Rachel, yummy Tyler....all of them...but Alton is in a league of his own. He puts so much research and creative effort into his show that I just adore him and his programs.
The only bad thing is that when you're dieting.....having food filling the screen and your ears....makes it tough. I start to crave every single item being whipped up...

Fit Tv has one guy on there I like his recipes I have seen. Health yet they seem to have a lot of flavor, plus some of them are just classics that I never thought of as a "healthier" alternative. His name is Blaine Jelus. Some of the ones I have seen are "whatevers" but always gives some heathy "spins" on some traditional. If it wasn't for Gilad I never would have seen the guy.

Who saw Sibyl on Rachel?
