Ilia Malinin | Page 5 | Golden Skate

Ilia Malinin

Ilia's been a pretty inconsistent skater over the years. But I think he's learning to be a more consistent skater, learning how to put it all together. Nationals proves he can do it. Seemed like he lost his focus (understandably) after the fall. Each experience should only make him stronger and thankfully he has a chance for a quick redemption at Junior Worlds. I just hope he isn't too mentally and physically exhausted for it. Ninth in the world and fourth in the short at his first Worlds is a very strong result. I hope he is proud of himself!! Can't wait to see his career and skating continue to progress in these coming years!

I think a tremendous amount of pressure was put on Ilia for his first Worlds. The good news is he has a beautiful future ahead of him and I expect next year will have different results. All things considered he did a great job and should be very proud of himself.

These are the Ilia-related videos from CBC television's broadcast of Worlds with Kurt Browning's commentary (no short programs were aired). I apologize for not editing out the sports update which is in between Ilia's performance and his replay/kiss & cry, but my health problems have been acting up since Saturday, so it was simply easier for me to upload the file as it is.

Can't wait to see this young man at junior Worlds!

In other Ilia news ... an early indication that his 2022 Nationals SP Free Skate won Best Performance - Men award from Professional Skaters Association?

Although more details need to be added to the page, I hope the 2022 winners already shown there are correct.

Ilia SP Free Skate, Mariah FS, Cain-Gribble/LeDuc FS, Hubbell/Donohue FD, Haydenettes.

ETA:

Ilia really won!
The PSA page has been updated to show that his Free Skate (not SP) won, and all the details have been filled in.

Best Performance Men
Ilia Malinin – Championship Mens Free Skate Program
PSA Coaches – Tatyana Malinina, Roman Skorniakov, Rafael Arutyunyan
Choreographer – Irina Romanova
Music Selection – "Nobody Knows" by Autograf and “Gold Age” by Woodkid
Costume Design – Victoria Nekrilova from Marusia design studio

Congratulations to Ilia and Team Malinin on this doubly exciting day!

I'm excited to see where Ilia goes from here next season. Congrats on becoming WJC! He's got so many haters on YouTube though. They mistake his confidence for arrogance I think.

Really???

To me he's a happy go lucky young man who seems to be very enthusiastic about mastering new cool tricks (jumps). I love it! I think it's a very healthy approach!
