Ilia Malinin

In fact, I deeply respect them for trying to write a word in Cyrillic, I know how difficult it is to overcome the fear of unfamiliar symbols. For some reason Cyrillic scares everyone, it seems to be so difficult

It's not terribly difficult for me to read it. Though some letters get me. Cause I don't know if "O" is supposed to be "Ah" or "Oh." That being said, I don't know all what it means. It wasn't terribly difficult for me to learn letters because I'm Jewish and I learned to read Hebrew in religious school.

I also knitted a hat for Ilia for the M&G after the Baltimore SOI show that had his name in English and Cyrillic to celebrate his Russian heritage.

My question is what did judge #5 see in the 4A that the others did not see. I know that their GOE got thrown out cause they take the highest and lowest out, but still.
Invalid elements in the short program are supposed to get -5 GOE automatically - I think judge #5 forgot to review that entry when the jump was changed to a valid element. The IJS will have to updated to accommodate skaters trying more than one Axel jump in the short program.

Apologies for posting again but NBC sports posted the SP on their YouTube channel. How long will they keep it up for all to see? Who knows? But for now, here's the SP link

no need to apologize

Have you found a link for the press conference???

Congratulations to Ilia on his gold medal! Glad to see him rise to the challenge. I was amazed at how he didn't let the fall on the 4A get in the way of the power of his performance. Nicely done. That was a new costume too, right? It looks like on the spins and the steps, the judges aren't 100% on board, but that will come! That's pretty scary to think that he has room to score even higher!

I know. If the 4A was a success, his TES would have been 127. I was a bit nervous after the fall that it might fall apart slightly. But he didn't waver at all. Good job Ilia! And I was shocked he threw in the 4Lo! Didn't expect that. I'm so happy.

Yeah it's a new FP costume. Looks better than the old one.

Not going to say much more about Ilia’s free except it was otherworldly…
Some people are SO gifted!! Congratulations to him.. I love his Dad’s reaction in the K & C. Also the new jacket for his free program adds formality to the music, alluding to the “Wall Street” uniform and it really suits Ilia so well.. as does the red jacket in the short program.
