I couldn't agree more with your post.
No one was happier for Michelle's subsequent successes than Frank Carroll. (He was seen cheering, enthusiastically)
When asked, he said that he was proud to be a "Michelle Kwan fan".
It's my understanding that they still meet to celebrate their mutual July birthdays.
Whatever happened, they handled it with the utmost "class".
I'm glad that they are still close.
Something else occurs to me. Many of us feel that Michelle made a mistake leaving Frank at just that moment, when she needed every asset she could get for her best chance to win the Olympic gold. But deciding to strike out on her own might have prepared her for life after skating. Skaters work very hard, but they often live in a cocoon. Even the oldest of them are children in a way. The coach and their parents see to everything for them while they just live to absorb themselves in their practice. They also have to follow everyone's commands: the coach (in their best interests, of course), the federation, the judges. Maybe the fact that Michelle had to look out for herself during those months (Danny Kwan looked out for her, but face it: she knew a lot more about the skating establishment and its requirements than he probably did) made her more independent and self-directed. As preparation for a career outside of skating, that's pretty good. So maybe those months of swimming against the current, whether wise or mistaken, are just now paying dividends for Michelle.

My sound is gone on this new MacBookPro. The new year is not starting well. I must bring it in to store which is very bad as I am disabled and need the puter for hiring purposes. Oh, my. Thats Off topic I know. Well, MK really owes the skater hje is to two people, FC and LN. She was a natural jumping talent, but she had beautiful solid technique because her coach was very old school. I personally don't think she would have won even without the fall in her LP. Sarah, who maybe would have gotten edge calls and URs under cop had the skate of a lifetime. She really was much better than MK or Irina.
MK's Lyra on the other hand should have blown Tara's artistic marks away, though I feel Tara was an extraordinary talent and a lovely skater as a pro, she was a joy to watch. That gold could have gone either way and I understand the judges. Tara was meant to skate.She was given a sign by St Therese, I read who usually (in statue form) stood at the boards often with Tara. I feel Sarah, had she continued 100% would have been a very beautiful artist, and exciting. She moved on so fast we forget her.
We got to see everything MK could possible do. She is one of the few lucky skaters who got to mature in the sport and showcase her best time and again.

Yes, that's one of the things that is special about Michelle--that she spent enough time in the sport to grow and to develop an artistic "voice." She created a body of work as a dancer or an actress would.

Actually, Michelle probably WOULD have won without the fall because she only needed to finish 2nd to Sarah to win overall based on factored placements. Michelle would have been 2nd over the sloppy skate Irina put out, no question, had she stayed up on the flip.

Oh, right you are, I forgot she could lose to Sarah, but had to beat Irina to get the gold, and with a clean performance, she should have beaten Irina. The flip was heartbreaking. I do feel Sarah deserved the gold. I thought her Sp was good and she should have been higher than fourth.
I think it would be funny if all Mk's challengers showed up in San Jose-everyone from Bobek to Lipinski to Hughes to Slutskaya. I think MK would be thrilled!

There is a wonderful tribute to Michelle in there with messages from Frank Carroll, Scott Hamilton and Sarah Huges. Put together really great! Michelle will look fabulous in whatever she wears, although I am dying to see what she does wear
I hope that NBC has the sense to put at least a bit of it on their evening telecast of the ladies' finals. They did have Michelle in the announcers' chair for a brief interview during the afternoon telecast. She looked wonderful, and she and Scott talked about the many people who took part in the ceremony. It sounds as though it's a good thing that no one else was inducted at the same time, because she would have overshadowed anyone else. Not her fault at all. As Scott pointed out, even if she'd had just one-third of her career, she'd have still qualified for the hall of fame. She didn't win nine national championships and five world golds, not to mention all the other medals, to make trouble for others.
