Japanese Nationals

does someone watch the ladies sp live right now?
I know that some of the members of this forum is in the dome now, but I have to wait till they broadcast the ladies' SP three hours from now, that last 150 minutes on air.

But I can tell you right now that one fan wrote on some web community that Miki got 68.68 (her season's best), though wobbled a bit in a position change in one of her spins.
Miki's skating order is quite early so this fan hasn't written any placements.
(Skating order: Miki #8, Mao #10, Aki #19, Nana #25, Fumie #27, Yukari #28, total 30 ladies)

8 Nishino 28.74+21.20=48.94 (-1.00)
9 Sawada 27.10+21.60=48.70

I got this info from a japanese board and sometimes people on that board aren't accurate purposely just a heads up for ya.

Fumie suguri moves into 3rd place with 63.50. 3fl/2toe, 3flip, 2axel. Her speed is back! according to the poster on this japanese board.

Just finished watching TV (Ladies SP).
Mao and Fumie got standing ovations.
Mao was perfect. She changed her costume, and that brought her psychological freshness.
Suguri was superb too. She chaged her costume too. Horrible shocking pink!
Miki's last spin sort of got slanted but recovered, the rest very good, a bit tentative but her 3-3 was good!

Wow, the score is so high, of course, it was national so 3-4 point inflation is to be expected. I am happy to hear that Miki pulled herself together.;)Anyone got Miki's SP yputube?

Detailed results for ladies' SP (this field is really like a mini-World Championships or something!!)

Takahashi completed two quads in his LP. His jumping content included a 4T, 4T+2T(ur), 3A, 3F+3T, 3Lo, and so on...

Footage for these two events have probably just finished airing on Japanese TV or they will air soon, so the videos will probably be posted soon but not yet.

Mao has two foot the second triple toe in combination and flutz, but overall I guess she recieved all spins and spirals , also maybe step level 4.

She did loop, not toe. It looked clean to me... She actually got only one lvl4 for spin and one for spiral, the rest was lvl3.

I don't like her new SP's dress at all, JMO.

This was actually Mai's spare dress. Mao's dress and skates got lost on the airport, so she had to skate in her old skates. Altough her dress made it to the rink, she decided to skate in Mai's anyway because she hoped it will help her skate with a fresh mind.

A Japanese article was summarized in this thread:
http://maoasada.logu2.com/competition-shows-discussion-f7/japanese-national-t83-30.htm

I actually like the dress, at least the sleeves and the way the skirt floats while she skates :)

Mao was amazing! Beautiful new dress, beautiful new layback, and is it just me or does her sit spin get lower and lower every time we see it? And Miki's jumps are back! Yukina was still my favorite, though, and the fact that she's so high up with a pop gives me a bit of hope for the free program. Can't wait to see what'll happen in the long...

Wow, Mao!

Her SP has really grown on me over the season. I remember when I first saw it, I thought she looked awkward with it, and I was thinking that it's the kind of music that would suit Yu-na much more naturally. But Mao has really made it her own. I think this is the most "dramatic" I've seen her skate or portray music. All the little details and intricacies of the music are brought out by her movements, which are so quick and confident and perfectly musical. She really has phenomenal basic skating skills, I can't think of any other ladies skater, past or present, who possess such astounding skills.:bow: Her footwork sequence is so impressive -- even the ice dancers must be envious of all her little turns and steps and upperbody movements, not to mention the fast twizzles. :) Her jumps were light and airy as ever. I don't think she double-footed the combo or any of the other jumps. I think she fully deserved a score that beat her PB. 70+ doesn't seem overly much.

I like her dress. It made her look more grown-up, lady-like. Now we know why, it's her older sister's dress -- maybe Mao should consider switching costume designer/producer, I think at 17 going on 18, it's time for her to go with a more mature look on the ice. I like how she stayed in character with her dramatic music for a few seconds after her music ended -- she looked so serious. ;) It's only when she smiles again, that you realize that she still is just a girl.

I hope she hasn't left her best SP in Japan, and will bring it with her, possibly an even better version (all level 4's?) to WC.:rock:

ETA: her flutz is looking less severe. Actually, she had quite an outside edge (dodging the camera ) before swerving to an inside edge the last moment.

Good for Miki, her 3-3 looks as good as ever! She still looked a little slow to me (though no longer so "heavy"), but definitely better than in the GP's -- I still hate her hunching posture, though. It's like when she skates her natural tendency is to let her back fall forward, and it's only when she tries hard that she manages to keep it up -- whenever she's concentrating on an element, her back dips again. It really bugs me...

But I think if Miki stays in this shape for the LP, and brings it with her to WC, then she will continue to have a good shot at the podium. And should the top two favorites falter badly like last season, then she might sneak in for the gold again. Carolina Kostner is another medal contender, but for Carolina it all depends on her nerves. The other top ladies, Yukari Nakano, Joannie Rochette, Kimmie Meissner, Sarah Meier -- they can't really compete without a 3-3.

I adore Yukina, but I wonder if she'll ever get her jumps back. I think at an ISU competition, she wouldn't have gotten 50+ for this SP (2A, 3T+2T, 1S). The landings of the 2A and the 3T were both a little off, the triple out of the footwork was missed altogether. Even with her amazing spirals (These were really great! Good speed and position and little set-up time, and they went so well with the music too) and spins (good positions, but a little slow), I don't think she'd get more than 45 normally.

She's such a pleasure to watch on ice though.
