With the 2026 Milano Olympic Games just around the corner, Japan continues to shine bright as one of the world’s leading nations in figure skating. With one of the deepest pools of talent in the world, the Japanese Skating Federation now faces challenging choices for its Olympic team, set to officially be announced at the end of this week.

To spare fans a nervous breakdown, we’ve put together a clear guide summarizing how the federation will pick its team for the Olympics across all four disciplines, along with the skaters to keep an eye on at this week’s National Championships!

So the first spot is reserved for the National Champion regardles of any other consideration. I approve. This enhances the prestige and importance of Japanese Nationals. yet since they have three spots in both men and ladies they are protected against something fluky upsetting the apple cart. The USA should consider this approach, too.

Thanks for this article, as it does explain a lot. Also, that the National Champion is going in any case, is clear. Even if it's a fluke victory - I don't know someone we've never seen before or heard of -, there are still two other skaters (2 women and 2 men) who will make up.
