I see what you're saying. His face is long anyway and this cut accentuates it. But the sides will grow and he can change the style whenever he wants.
I never minded the pony or the man bun. What i didn't like was the plastering down of the hair for comps. It was too severe. Hoping this will be an easier style for him.

Am I the only one having a hard time picturing Jason doing anything like Piano with his new haircut? The manbun, the elegant black costume, and that choreo, are indelibly linked in my mind.
His new look is fundamentally different, and I wonder what it says about who he will be on the ice going forward.

I get what you are saying. I'm thinking back to Tristan & Isolde or Hamilton and how his hair style played a role in selling the program's story. I can't imagine him doing either program with the new short hair.
Jason has made a lot of external changes this summer (training location, coach, choreographer, hair style) and in the abstract it does seem like something unique has been lost. I do think the essential Jason-ness (electric audience connection, musicality, elegance of movement) will continue to shine and am looking forward to seeing how the changes translate on the ice.

Ohhh, my first reaction was just shock. His ponytail was the trademark of him, why did he get rid of it, it was so nice!!! Although I understand why, change is necessary sometimes and it new haircut actually looks good on him, I'll miss the ponytail regardless. May it Rest in Peace.

I had thought it was just me, but now I have seen so many saying exactly the same thing, I came to the realization it wasn't just a crazy obsessed mind smitten by the Uzbek boy (as much as Jason!) playing a trick
But I guess it was just an accidental resembrance in that particular picture, the angle, his facial expression etc... in the second pic he published on his story he doesn't look like Misha at all. BTW getting back to the non-hair subject, I guess this pretty much confirms that he will be doing Autumn Classic, whch will be held near Toronto.

I think Jason's haircut looks similar to Javier Raya's. (Maybe he decided which cut to get when they were at the Nadal tennis match last week.)

It looks really similar. But their face shapes and features are so different that it looks really different on them - I wouldn’t have picked it up unless you pointed it out!
So I'm still getting used to the new haircut, but I think it looks pretty good. It's pretty amazing the number of positive comments. I never had any attachment to the ponytail or his hair in general and I think it's good to get a fresh look!
His hairdo reminds me of the one from Maxwell Gart, the U.S. junior ice dancer. (He's debuting on the JGP this season with his partner Katrina DelCamp (who reminds me of Russian dancer Elena Illynkh.))
I'd say the Noah Gould/Luke Dunphy comparision is also apt.

I like the way he looks with the new do, but I feel like I don't recognize him in some way...I am now anxious about his skating. Will I still love it as much?

Well you know those artsy quadless skaters, they all look the same.
. Seriously, he does look like Misha in that picture, right down to the grey shirt. But I’m pretty sure that Jason’s Jason-ness will assert itself again once we get used to the new do. @Doris - did you ever see any of those pictures of Jason in mirrored sunglasses looking kind of hip and intimidating? Well, those glasses / that look didn’t change his essential nature, and I suspect this haircut won’t, either. He had a tough season last year and he’s growing up and making changes in response to that. We can’t expect anything he does - even his programs - to remain exactly the same forever. But it is kind of hard to imagine what his skating will be like - as I said above, the manbun and the Piano are inextricably linked for me and at the moment I simply cannot imagine him performing that program with his new hairstyle. Of course that’s probably just my own lack of imagination.
Anyway, speaking of programs, I hope we get to see at least bits of them really really soon, cause drama queen that I am, I’m tired of waiting!

Although I do think Dancing Through TCC would be epic. Can you imagine the hits he'd get if Yuzu danced

Okay dancing through TCC maybe. Maybe. But I mean really, could he get any more annoying? I was about to snark at him on Twitter:
Jason darling, we all know you love to dance through wherever, but we just DON’T WANT TO WATCH IT ANYMORE. And really, you make a dramatic change in hairstyle and then COVER IT UP with the SAME DUMB HAT you’ve been wearing BACKWARDS for TWO YEARS ? WHAT IS THE POINT?
Hah hah - been a long day at the office. I never knew how satisfying it was to scream in all caps until now!
