I might have yelled a "NO!" at my phone when I got to that part of my twitter feed this morning. But I am glad it is not serious, and that they are making sure even that minor injury is looked after properly.
But can we please not quad-bash? We don't know for sure that he hurt it jumping. For all we know, maybe Rohene had him trying some crazy new spiral position or a crazy new spin position. I've always hated the emphasis on crazy catch-foot positions in the camel, and have always thought it would cause back injuries - though granted, I'd have picked Max to be the one to hurt himself on a catch-foot and not Jason.
And now I have the mental image of emo Joshua plucking out emo songs on his guitar and Jason listening and suggesting new less-emo lyrics while they're both injured.![]()
There have been times in the past, eg during Prince, when I've noticed him using his free hand to support his lower back during his catch foot spins, and also that the position of the spin was a bit more horizontal and less upright than the one he's been doing for the past 2 seasons. So you may be on to something.
But I think it could also be that he's really been pushing himself since last July - not just to land the quad, but to do both programs clean. Remember what Kori said about him putting heavy expectations on himself last year? I think he could be doing it again this year. He's the defending US champ. He's said publicly he wants to win another title. He said his goal was to make GPF this year. But to date, even though he's medaled at all 3 events, his skates have been....messy. He's had a lot of < on 3A and other jumps and ! on both flip and lutz. That's got to be tough on him, especially given how well Max and others have been skating. I think that kind of stress can make injury more likely to happen.
