Hey guys! At the airport heading home.
So funny story -- the clip el henry posted is actually from a fellow GS user, who ended upgrading her seat from me after I upgraded (I gave her my ticket). The exhibition was really fun to watch and yes he got a standing ovation.
Same lovely soul also gave me a ticket to the Friends of Figure Skating breakfast. It was a ton of fun and Jason was there! We chatted for a few minutes, got a photo and I told him to slay 4CC.
Another story: I was chatting with Camden Pulkinen and Jacob Simon about their music video with TJ Nyman, another Team USA jr. pairs skater. I made some joke that I wanted a photo of them so I could say I knew them before they became famous hip-hop artists. Anyway I just gave my phone to someone and we took the photo. And then when I bothered to look -- I realized I had given my phone to Jason's dad! And I just said that "You're Jason's dad!" He laughed. After I chatted with Jason, I ended up talking to his dad again and for a while. He was super friendly -- it's very obvious where Jason get's his exuberance from.
I had told him that they should go to Din Tai Fung in Taipei, where they originally started (yes, I have a slight obsession with this place), which evoked an enthusiastic response and typed the name in his phone when he asked. Anyway, we ended up talking about parenting. Basically I had mentioned that my husband was watching my daughter, and that she was a very active toddler and jumping off coffee tables. I showed him a video that Mr. P had sent to me while I was here. Anyway, he talked about how active Jason was (lol, surprise to nobody.

) and told me that this phase too would pass (which I know of course, but I can always use reminders CONSTANTLY given the current state of things). I then mentioned that he has raised a good kid and that he was lucky to have a supportive family, especially with the tough free skate, which prompted him to say something to the effect that they always support him, but that it's the toughest on him. And he said that you try to do all you can as a parent but in the end you have to step back you have to let them face/process the disappointment and that I will probably be learning the same thing as my daughter grows up. I totally didn't expect to have this conversation, but it was really nice. He was saying how genuine Jason was -- and I have to say it's easy to see where he gets it from.
Anyway, my flight is boarding soon!
