Jason Brown

Oh really? That’s interesting. I know Yuzu thinks highly of Jason but I never heard that particular compliment.

I read it in the original Yuzuru thread when I was still a lurker in GS. IIRC, he wrote it in his "Blue Flame" autobiography. Then typically Yuzuru, he also stated he wants to fight (compete with) Jason. I believe it was in the 2011 GPF where he really took note of Jason, though he competed in the seniors, while Jason was in the juniors. I'll try to dig up the post when I have time.

So for those of you who don’t listen to TSL, they briefly mentioned Jason near the very beginning. They spoke first about Evgenia (per Doug Haw report I think) and she looks wonderful. They then spent a minute or so discussing Jason: free skate is “a stunner” and a quad is planned in FS though possibly not at beginning of season. They then debate whether he should just go for high GOE and no quad. I haven’t heard the whole thing yet, but even those of you who dislike TSL should be able to listen to the Evgenia / Jason stuff without a problem. It’s like the first 5 minutes:

To add on to what Tavi said... Dave also thinks Jason can potentially make the GPF without a quad... that to me is a sign the gossip he is hearing is that Jason is doing well. He wants to set himself for being in the know.

That's big of him, considering Jason's already done it.

Doug Haw is supposed to be on next week (he was sick and had to cancel this week) so maybe we’ll hear more then.

I just can’t wait to see the FS!

It was interesting - Dave mumbled something about keeping him healthy in relation to not pushing the quad. I remember Brian said that in one of the first interviews after the announcement, but I wonder if it’s a real ongoing cause for concern or if they’re just being very careful. Jason was healthy for his whole career until a few years ago, so I guess it’s possible that training the quad has played its part in the injuries.

And wow, they’re planning the quad! Even if they don’t add it immediately (and I hope they don’t) it suggests that it really is a question of “when” and no longer “if.” :)

I was really excited to hear Doug will be on next week. He was so interesting last time he talked with them after the Olys. Sounds like they're being super careful with Jason. I still worry about his back, even though it's been a few years since he had that trouble after Sk Amer 2015.

When you think of the strength and agility it takes to do that, and make it look as though a chair were just there

And did anyone see that the official Toronto Distillery (I think that's the name of this neighborhood he keeps visiting with the heart) has liked and commented on Jason's posts? I think some swag from their merchants should be in Jason's future:biggrin:

Sit spins probably help! :)

Ok, this group might appreciate while we await :bed: program news ...

With all the travelogue photos from Toronto, remember when Jason was posting photos of cows on the road to Monument? How times have changed

Has Mrs P posted statistics about Jason lately? Sorry, but what statistics are you talking about?

Rarely get to see Golden Skate. Tavi, the stats were from August 19. I copied them into my pocket planner, to remind myself not to be concerned by negative comments.
They make me smile.

Mrs. P wrote:
ETA: I was on skatingscores.com just now and there are some interesting statistics worth noting for Jason from last season:

* 8th highest mean(average) overall score among all the men, at 258.00. (And just behind Adam in 7th, who was .4 higher)
* 3rd highest average + GOE (behind Yuzuru and Javier) at 0.72.
* 5th highest mean PCS component score at 9.03. (Behind Yuzu, Javier, Shoma/Patrick (tied))

Those stats aren't bad considering all the struggles of last season.

What a great idea, @skateflake, to copy the good so as not to be discouraged by the bad. A negative old cuss like myself should remember that:)

Which will not stop me from complaining about the negative now. Will the people with the backhanded compliments about Jason’s hair on social media just *stop*? your hair looks great now, but man, did you look like a kid/immature/really bad before :disapp::disapp::disapp:

Do these people talk that way to their friends “Great outfit, Jane, boy, you looked terrible in the last one” or are they just trolling?:sarcasm:

I do think most people are struck by how much *more* handsome Jason looks with the new haircut. I never had super strong feelings about Jason's hair one way or another before, but I would have to agree the haircut was a major upgrade.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that you look a certain way. I think when people say he looks mature, they're not saying that he wasn't previously. I.e. the emphasis is on more, not that it was non-existent.

And honestly, if the haircut will get skating fans (and even some judges) to give him a second look, then that's not a bad thing.

ETA: Yes, there were a few stupid comments, but I say they're in the minority, IMO. Also saw that Conrad commented. The TCC hair salon, lol.

the stupid comments are in the minority, but of course that’s what I seize on

And I want to see Jackie Wong, per his Twitter, in a Jason-inspired ponytail now:laugh:

Well here’s the most recent picture in case anyone hasn’t seen it - it’s a great one!

Regarding how he looks with a modern short cut versus the ponytail, I think it’s two things.

One, I think a lot of people are uncomfortable with non-mainstream looks. If you categorically dislike long hair and ponytails it kind of puts up a barrier, and you’ll have a harder time actually looking at the person wearing it and seeing whether he’s good looking. I think this attitude is pretty common.

The other thing is, he has changed a lot physically in the last 4-5 years. As a young teenager his features were, for lack of a better word, pretty - again, non traditional. After Sochi, that started to change, and he’d look one way on one day and completely different the next. Now his looks have settled and there’s not a trace of “pretty” left - he’s definitely a young man, with strong masculine features, and the short haircut emphasizes that. And of course, makes it easier for ponytail haters to actually look at him. :)

Rohene is on his way to Canada to see Jason and Madison/Evan per his instagram:

roheneward Bye bye USA...here I come Ohhh Canada. Heading to see @jasonbskates and @evan_bates and @chockolate02 !! Cant wait to see you all!!!!!!

Since David Wilson is with Zhenya in Russia, it's a perfect time for Jason and Rohene put the final polish on the SP. In the past Rohene's been really good at posting little updates when they work together. I hope that's one item that won't change in this year when everything else has changed.

(I also hope Rohene left the bedazzler at home.)

I didn’t know Rohene was working with Madi and Evan again this year; he will indeed be doing the Tour de Canada l’Est.;)

And let’s hope he left his Bedazzler at Burning Man:laugh: (Read an article in the NYTimes, sounds like a perfectly awful way to spend three days, but different strokes for different folks.......)
