This is too much for me to handle, i'm crying again. those shots of him at the gala just crying absolutely end me, I can't imagine how he must have been feeling in that moment to have achieved what he had been working towards for the last four years.

And that is something that is unique about Jason. His performances are so in tune with the musicians that the musicians even buy into it!

That would be wonderful! I hope that it will be a safe and healthy experience and I hope that lots of people come and bring their kids to see how great skating can be.

I guess since he was iin doping when he got the news he'd been selected, he already knew by the time of the gala???

They had already been presented to the crowd as the Olympic team before the gala. Jason even had his special guitar by now.
Yes, he knew well before now. The crying at the start of the video might have even been a bit of pressure release for him.

OK Jasonites, I need help.
Is this a new interview since Jason's selection, or something we've seen before. I can't tell,
It was posted yesterday, but that is not determinative.
(Despite the heading, Jason does not talk about being gay in Beijing, in fact he deftly parries the question. I will say he is a master at not taking bait.

It’s gotta be recent, don’t you think? Rationale: He’s relaxed and happy. Haircut looks like Nats haircut. Vid says USOPC=Courtesy US Olympic & Paralympic Committee. He’s talking affirmatively about representing the US in China, not hypothetically.
But what is happening to his hairline?????

He said before he skated that when he heard the song (presumably well before Nats even began) it moved him to tears. It summed up his whole skating career and his goals for this 4 year cycle and so he cried. And then skated beautifully.

I swear I remember a recent interview where they asked Jason if he would grow the pony back and he said something like "Well if I have hair..."
I'm glad to hear others think it was recent. I thought it was, but it seemed awfully "low key" for a pre-Olympics interview.

I also thought this was a post Nats interview. But can’t imagine why they posted it as an article where Jason discusses being gay in Beijing. There was one question and he never said a word about it. He really does handle interviews well. I’m just peeved that he clearly didn’t care to answer that question .. and yet that’s the heading they slapped on the interview.
Now I have to rewatch to check out his hairline!

I hope that Jason keeps his hair also, though I think the ponytail should remain in his history. But his two skating idols are Scott Hamilton and Brian Boitano, so he has good role models. Oddly, the less hair Jason has, the better he skates. At this point, the way he's wearing his hair looks fine. It's grown up Jason!
He does handle interviews well. I know he appreciates Team Rainbow support but he doesn't want this to be the narrative. The narrative for him is failing to make the team in 2018 and committing to a 4 year journey to make the team in 2022 and succeeding. That's what's important. And now that he's made the team, he wants to deliver the best skates that he can. He's spent time in China with the Chinese skating team and he understands their culture a bit and he made friends there. He's comfortable in China. He wants to be respectful and enjoy the process. That's what they should be asking him about. And he's sticking to that narrative. He wants to bring his best to China.

To be honest, I don't even think it's so much Jason sticking to a narrative (although I agree he never puts his personal life front and center) but that Jason could give politicians advice on artfullly dodging a question.
Remember how he would just let quad questions roll off his back without really engaging criticism? And recently in a Russian interview, the interviewer started off on how Americans teach WWII history, and Jason had another great deflection.

Jason is brilliant and he studies communications. He's clearly learned a great deal! He is one of the best at interviews in Figure Skating and possibly in sports. He answers questions, doesn't court controversy, but doesn't shy away from it either. He is diplomatic and honest. I believe it’s post announcement. He is talking about his past and preparation for the Olympics. He appears really happy. Also, mentions his family will not be with him. I wonder if he‘s in Chicago? I was making a fan fest for the Chinese Taipei senior Ladies Champion, and found this on her insta. Ting Tzu-Han was born and started skating in her hometown of Taipei, but now also trains at the Cricket Club part time with coach Joey Russell. I could seriously like this young woman!
