Jason Brown

Happy Riverdance Day!

And Jason asks in his IG stories, should he bring the program back for Year 10: Yes. No. Exhibition Number.

He is also shocked the costume still fits. ;)

My take: Jason can bring back “Riverdance” any time and as often as he wants! :jump:

I can still remember the yuuuge smile of delight that spread across my face when I saw it for the first time. ❤️

Love it! I'd actually be really curious to see how he and Rohene could tweak this and make it even better now. Watching it today, I thought it was wonderful, as always, but I was also really aware of how much Jason has grown as a technical skater and performer. He was wonderful then. He's incredible now. I say bring on Riverdance 2.0!

I agree completely!!! I was there in Boston that day and it was even more magical in person than what we see on video. The energy he created in that arena cannot be described. That being said, I realize after watching the video again how much more he has evolved and would love to see what he could do with the music and choreography now. Fans can dream.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp7ax8Fhdq4/ Jason had ice time in Tokyo. He posted a thank you to the rink and training group. Practices start on Monday. I assume that Tracy will meet him there.

The IG Post in Japanese (according to Bing translate) says he trained with Rinka-chan and Rinka-chan's coach.

I assume that is Rinka Watanabe, I am very sad to say I would not recognize her and so the second photo in the post is not much help? I don't know who her coach is. (I also assume thanks for the link means thanks for the rink ;) )

Bing Translate of Japanese portion:

This week, I trained with Rinka-chan and Rinka-chan's coach! Fun! Thank you very much for Ice Time! Thanks for this link too! Good luck at the World Championships!

I didn't translate it. That was exceptionally nice of them to do that. Another new experience for Jason! That's great! I think Rinka is the skater second from Jason to the right. The man next to Jason might be the coach. Not sure.

Yes, that’s Rinka Watanabe (the left of the two girls in the second photo). I also recognize Kensuke Nakaniwa (a former competitor in men’s singles of the same generation as Takeshi Honda and Yamato Tamura and now one of Rinka’s coaches) between Jason and Rinka. The rink is familiar too: It’s the “Mitsui Fudosan Ice Park Funabashi”, which was officially inaugurated by Kana and Dai in December 2020. They seem to have connections there as some of their promo videos were shot in this rink and they often practice in this facility when they are in Japan (maybe they’ll join the group in a few days?) In exchange, Kana and Dai have given a couple of classes for the local club's young skaters and adult beginners. Ayumi and Shingo temporarily trained there as well.

Maybe Jason got the connection through his participation in Ice Explosion? Rinka was invited to one of the shows in Yokohama and will be part of the cast in Fukuoka in May.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I just ran across this video interview that Self Magazine posted about 3 months ago and thought I’d share for anyone like me who missed it. It’s great! It’s mostly about training and staying healthy but he talks a lot about how he’s he’s changed over the years - so interesting! I am super impressed by his poise, maturity, and ability to articulate his thoughts. 😊

The complete version of Ice Explosion was broadcasted yesterday with several different camera angles from the highligts broadcast in January. Here’s my upload on google drive -Group No. 4 including Jason’s and Dai’s duet starts at 1:08:55 and Kana’s and Massimo’s duet transitions into Jason’s solo performance (he did “Melancholy”) at 1:25:29:

I thought Massimo being lifted by Dai and Jason (seperately) was extremely cool. It gives a taste of what same-gender teams could do in ice dance.

Good luck to Jason at Worlds! :hap10:

I had not seen that before. Thank you!

He also says J is practicing 3A-2A and that he fell on a 3F 😳 (followed by an apparently clean 3F)

Jason falling on his money jump, the flip, is frustrating. But he does have better odds without the lunge. ;)

can I also jump off and say just how much more fun this Worlds is as a Jason fan? Whatever he does is gravy. Of course I may not feel that way come very early Thursday (my tIme)

So two things: (1) he did a clean one right after, and (2) someone in Jackie’s replies noted that in one of his shows he switched the knee slide to a spin entry. 😊

On the other hand Jackie is predicting he’ll place fourth and if squeaky clean he has a shot at a medal. I always hate those predictions!

Honestly, this is the most wildly unpredictable Men's event in forever! I think it is Shoma's to lose, but we shall see! There are about a dozen different realistic outcomes!
