Jason Brown

"... I believe that I am nowhere near my peak."

That's the stuff, Jason!! We'll be following you closely.

Thanks for posting, Mrs. P!

I am not a subscriber, but tempted to buy the digital edition for $3.99....It looks like an overall good issue anyway.

I subscribe to the digital issue only, it's cheap & I can't lose my back issues. Normally there's always something in any one edition that makes me wish I had a paper version so I could throw it in a corner in disgust, but this one was exceptionally good. They handled the Adelina issue very gracefully in her interview (unlike just after Sochi when they basically said there's no controversy, suck it you sore losers).

My fave part is the "They said it", which has quotes from skaters and officials etc, but since this is an anniversary issue, they had some really random quotes from the past 20 years. Like Petri Kokko in 2000 saying Harding should be forgiven because Tyson

ETA: Remembered another reason why I don't even like IFS most of the time: Just before the Olys there was some guy basically making fun of Jason's lack of quad on IFS' Facebook page, and whoever runs that site liked his comments! I was like, do you want me to cancel my subscription? Do you want skaters to give you interviews? Then don't "like" abusive posts against said skaters fgs. The guy didn't really even make sense, but basically the gist of it was "Hey Evan they've sent another one without a quad, the girls will show him how it's done" :rolleye:

Oh well. It seems that Jason, in his nice way, is basically saying "haters, to the left please."

I never saw the point of people making fun of someone for not having something, especially something that few people have to begin win. I mean it's not like that guy could do a quad!

When I took issue in a reply he called me a "quad-hater" who would "never understand"

Can you tell us what Jason's reply was? I don't yet subscribe. :rolleye:

I'm sorry - I was going to in the morning (I posted that just before I went to bed at 3:30) but when I got here I realised I'd forgotten about time zones and that my morning would be most peoples' evening! *facepalm* I guess I was a bit tired ;)

Glad that Mrs P replied first so that you didn't have to wait too long :)

In fact, I was wondering if it could be possible to share the article here by scanning it then sharing the picture? I could try to do that if that sort of thing is allowed here...

Probably can screen shot it then put it on flicker or make it into a PDF or something.

I will have a go if I have time tomorrow!

Just noticed @sylviaunseen's tweet: Ashley Cain got a 2nd GP and she's going to Russia, too! So happy because I can imagine how much fun she and Jason will have on that trip!

I will have a go now! I had forgotten I had Flickr  Jason Brown IFS article

Thankyou very much, TMC! He does sound more confident.

When I was reading about him working with Kori and how he's never had an injury...that's what makes me believe that out of all my American favourites, he'll be the last man standing. The longer his uninjured stretch goes on, the longer his career can be. But Max's back may yet come back to haunt him, and lord knows Josh has had enough injuries for them both already...

How typical is it for a (male) skater to sustain some injury if he has been skating since age four (such as, JB)?
Everyone gets injuries, but Jason probably just didn't have any serious injuries that set him back. I wouldn't say its typical, but does happen often since injuries can occur due to many different reasons. Such as over-training/pushing yourself, bad conditions/facilities, bad coaching/techniques, or just plain bad luck. I believe Mao Asada's also never suffer from any major injuries which is amazing considering she was training the 3A since she was like 12/13?

Jason's situation is very unusual, though not unheard of. He's been injured before - I think a couple of years ago Kori mentioned a muscle strain, sore back etc, but all minor little aches and pains, not major injuries. Max Aaron is a weird case because he's had one major, major injury - the broken back - but he actually did that lifting weights, not skating. But he's never had another.

Joshua's had more injuries than you can poke a stick at - osteochondritis dissecans, a slash to the leg, torn hip muscle, and a broken leg. But then he was also under the coaching of Zakrasjek for a long time - under which all of the aforementioned injuries occurred.

Another thing going for Jason is his flexibility. Jason has credited that for his relative lack of injures. I think it was on The Skating Lesson where he said he felt he could do more with his skating because of it.

IMO, I feel like Joshua was doing too much too early. It certainly helped him win competitions early on, but I think it sort of worn him. I also think too much focus on jumps lead to a loss of his flexibility and made him more prone to injury. In fact, Jason credits Joshua's flexibility early on for his determination to work on his.

Hopefully Joshua will be injury-free this season. I'd like to see those two battle it out.

Something I've always wondered about Jason it's why, while having great flexibility in his hips, he has a relatively stiff back? could it be because he "trained" it instead of being more natural? just curious...

FWIW Hanyu once said in an interview that his body muscles started being stiff after he started training quad, maybe the same happened to Farris

Yes, he's probably trained to have a straight back, i.e. something ideal in dancing. But I'm not sure if that would equate to him having a stiff back. I'm no dancing expert so I'm hoping someone can fill in here.

I'm no dance expert either, but I feel that in T&I the choreo has points where he really is "using his back" and it doesn't look stiff. The choreo sequence especially, and the transitions from spin to loop and out, too.
