Javier Fernandez

I read in the Spanish forum of someone who already watched their programs that these are really amazing (both programs)!!! :yes2:

Ooh, can you please post the link to this Spanish forum you mention? I'd love to be able to read more about Javi, especially from his Spanish fans who are able to follow him a lot more closely.

I just came back from Madrid but sadly I failed to see Javi. Why oh why wasn't he casually walking on a street across from me this weekend!? I couldn't even visit his (honestly kind of scary-looking) bust since it'll only be exhibited in December.

My head tells me that expecting to see Javi while in Madrid is just silly. It's a huge city with millions of people, and the odds of casually running into him are a zillion to one. But of course, my heart would be hoping and praying to run into him and furthermore that he would be in no particular rush to get anywhere so that we'd have oodles of time to chat, get an autograph, and take a whole bunch of selfies :) I'm sorry you didn't run into him, but hey, there's always hope, right?

I didn't actually expect to come across him, of course. Especially since I spent my time in tourist attractions and queueing for free admittance stuff.

Loena Hendricx was at the Madrid summer camp and got this message from Javi to her brother. Sweet!

Very curious about the FS and am happy that it's first outing will be a few weeks earlier than expected!

According to the interview that's coming out tomorrow, which some people have seen a page of (though it's been deleted now), Javi IS adding the 4Lo to his FS. And he's doing Chaplin again as sort of closing of the full circle, since he won his first Europeans and a World medal with it.

Now I really regret not getting tickets to ACI. I was feeling guilty about forcing my husband to go on a skating vacation instead of one we picked together. Should've stayed strong or gone by myself!

Glad Javi is adding the 4loop since we have known for a while he can do it. I want to see him do everything he can so that no matter what happens he knows he did everything possible in pursuit of gold at the Olympics. No holding back.

Cool! Can't wait for the actual interview to FINALLY materialize... He sure took his time to get to that point - I hope it is a sign that the practices are going well.

Then there is the question of where will it be in the program? The 3Lo will drop out I guess - both 3As in the 2nd part would be a slight booster to his BV if the new jump is in the first part.

A translation into Japanese of the deleted page of the interview also seems to mention a 3 triple combo (3Lz3T3Lo maybe?) but we really need the interview itself in its original Spanish to make sure of this.

Edit: This twitter thread is translating the most important points from the article in Spanish and they confirm both the 4Lo, 3 different quads, and the possibility of the 3-triple combo.

Edit 2: Full scan of the article.

And here's the text from Marca.

So, actually the 4Lo is still not 100% certain - the 3x3 will be interesting to see... September is too far away!

The cartoon of Don Quijote spinning is cool and funny - I'm curious to see how they deal with the age issue (DQ is an old man after all!) and whether he will be styled along Renaissance fashions (want one of those ruffled round collars and the puffy shorts with tights!). The facial hair cannot be the same for Modern Times and DQ, though.

But I did find it funny that they said the first Chaplin was based on Limelight because the music cut included just about every famous Chaplin tune...

Yeah, I realized that after. He's working to include it but he also wants to go as clean as possible so it's a question of how ready the jump will be in the program itself. I'm not quite sure if he's planning on 3 or 4 quads if he adds the 4Lo, though, as it's not clear in the interview. The 3Lz3T3Lo combo was first mentioned in an interview before Worlds so it must be that one he's thinking of. In which case, I'm not quite sure of the strategic or points advantage of this combo but it sure has the potential to be an interesting jump to see.

You are correct, the exact content of his FP is still very much up in the air. While he's planning on incorporating a 4Lo, the jump is hardly set in stone. Still, just the fact that he's talking about the 4Lo to the media tells me that the jump is progressing nicely. If his 4Lo attempts were disastrous, I can't imagine he'd utter a peep about it. He might do just (I know ... *just*) three quads but could theoretically do as many as five. Nobody knows yet, probably not even Javi himself. Everything depends on how secure he feels with the level of difficulty. If he's planning a triple-triple-triple combo, though, that tells me that he's planning just three quads because he would need to tack on the 3T (or the 3Lo, although Javi hasn't done the 3Lo as the 2nd half of a combo previously) to one or two of the quads in order to incorporate four or five quads into his program.

I was wondering about the costume as well. I love the Don Quijote spinning illustration too, super-cool yet funny at the same time. But to wear the traditional dress of the early 17th century would be far too cumbersome for a figure skater. I'm curious about how they pare the costume down for mobility's sake while retaining the look of the era.

Thanks, Eppen!!!

WOW, I really love the sound of that little bit I hear on the clip. And I also love Javi´s soft moving on the ice to that music... Oh my, now one needs so much patience to be able to wait until his first competition...

Thanks for the pic! Javi looks great and seems to be in top shape, which is good for his jumping. No tortillas, just continue eating what you have been doing lately to get that shape. Besides, on the other hand I seem to remember him saying that he can eat everything without worrying about his weight? Maybe he has been working for his condition?

Japan Open FB posted a short interview and a couple of photos from Toronto. New hints on the FS include a love story wth Dulcinea and a knight fight.

And speaking of food - some kind of food adventure over the weekend with friends, a short clip and picture. (He does not look as scary thin as over the winter which is good!)

Finally, the Reebok deal is official - not a huge surprise that one, eh? A short clip from Javi.

I'm so happy that he got signed by Reebok. I shuddered when I read that back in 2014, Javi was still losing money while figure skating. After two world titles and a few more European titles, surely he's making more than the sport is costing him nowadays, but after all the lean years, every bit helps. Thanks, Reebok!!
