I am so sorry for Johnny. It's not easy to be super talented and popular. I truly hope that nobody harms Johnny.

I´m a big fan of both Lysacek and Weir´s skating since Lysacek skated in junior competitions and Weir in Goodwill Games. The general impression I have been starting to get of Weir´s off-ice person during a couple of years now (based on some journal remarks, interviews, etc.) is not very positive. About Lysacek´s off-ice person I have to say that so far I have gotten no negative impressions from what I have read.

I wish them both good luck in GPF and US Nationals!!!

IMO some of the men's costumes have become a bit too much and have gone over the top, and Johnny leads the pack.

Really? Come on you can't possibly think Johnny's is as bad as Takahashi's LP costume. LOL that thing is hideous. It looks like he was sent through a paper shredder and KVDP looks like a Star Wars extra. I admire Evan in that he keeps his costumes classic, but they are just sooo boring. If he could just have something a little bit more special about them I'd love them. I think he'd look great in Lambiel's Flamenco costume. Although I have to say I think he's shot himself in the foot with all the black because now I don't think he'll ever be able to wear color with-out looking strange.

BTW, remember, not so long ago, Evan accused "Weir's fans" of sending him hate mail?

Personally I don't believe it.

IIRC there were media reports that he received threatening letters in the mail or by email.. turns out it was a cruel prank... but it was investigated...

He got lots of hate mail after Torino calling him the F word and saying he should die, but the death threat was somehow someone got his phone number and said something like, "I hope you die." I think COI had to increase security because of it.

Yeah, that's pretty obvious, unfortunately (see Johnny's 2006-2007 season for reference)

I wouldn't tell anyone what to do because it's really not my place, but I hope after the Olympic fiasco Johnny got someone to screen his mail. Reading that garbage is so unnecessary.

If by classic you mean "looks like a waiter" or "shops at Target" then yeah. For the record, I think Daisuke's evil swan costume is awesome.

I don't think he'll be harmed by anyone. However, I could never understand why anyone in the world would ever want to send hate mail to an athlete. What has he done that makes someone want to kill him or wish him death?! It boggles the mind. Then, I heard that a baby polar bear in Germany got death threats too, so logic and reason really don't factor in. Obviously. The world is full of loons.

I never got teh full story... honestly didn't want to hear it as the whole idea of it was just disgusting... so you don't like the guy, turn the other way and quit watching lol

So true. I don't want to hear any more. But I am also aware that I can say so because I am the third party. For Johnny, who had do face it even though he wouldn't want to, it must have been really hard.

Thanks for the link Psycho. I have to say judging by that Evan has improved drastically in a very short amount of time. His sit spin in particular was awful. The program was cute though, not really my cup of tea, but the footwork was fun to watch. It was interesting to see his first quad attempt ever, I had no idea he's been trying them that long.

It makes Carmen from that same season that much more impressive, IMHO. It was a drastic difference...

I was so bummed he dropped Grease before nationals, though lol I so wanted to see it LIVE.

Yeah, watching that and thinking of his Carmen program performed last season at nationals is like 2 different skaters. It makes me wonder what he's done in terms of training differences. He still has the same coach, so it must have been something different.

I think this is a combination of a very-early season skate (Campbells) and a crappy (no offense to those who love it ) program.

And of course he improved. They all mature and improve. Skating the same program for many seasons helps too.

well Carmen came in the second half of the season that he had Grease. IIRC he debuted Carmen at Nationals that season.

It was still rough around the edges in January, but honestly I thought it rocked at the Olympics just a month later. It was incredible... to me. I'm biased though lol

Skating the same program for many seasons helps too.

He's not the only skater to do it and Carmen was only a year and a half (or rather a season and a half) old.

Johnny's recycled programs before (I remember wanting to see Otonal at the Olys... and... well.. he tried lol)

The progression of both of their skating in terms of each other is strange. Johnny started skating at 12, relatively late, I can remember reading somewhere that his mom was hassled by some other moms at his rink because they thought they were lying about him starting so late considering how good he was right away. Then you have Evan, who started at 8? if I'm not mistaken, which is pretty early. In the beginning Johnny would usually beat Evan and then a few years ago Evan started usually beating Johnny, but considering when each of them started it should have been the other way around, with Evan beating Johnny early on because he had more experience and then Johnny eventually as he caught up beating Evan.

There's no record of when Lysacek started skating in the Media Guide. Johnny did start at 12.

Johnny is about a year older than Evan

Evan's first medal was in Juvenile in l996 and Johnny's in 1997, both of which were in separate Juvenile Regionals.

While these facts are of a personal interest to me, they are not relevant to the competitions that they participated in together. Both these young Men are up against several top international figure skaters from Europe and Japan. That is what I am interested. Who among them will be the best that night.

I remember reading that Evan received his first skates from his grandmother at age eight. He originally wanted to do ice hockey so his mom signed him up for skating lessons so he could learn how to skate for hockey. Evan's sister was taking figure skating lessons and Evan decided that whatever she did, he could do better so he started learning figures as well and then it was decided his talent was in figure skating not hockey.

He got his first ice skates for Christmas when he was twelve and he use to skate on a frozen corn field behind his house in Pennsylvania before he started lessons.

Johnny watched figure skating on tv and decided to try it on a pair of old roller skates in the basement, teaching himself how to do a single axle. He got his first ice skates for Christmas when he was twelve and he use to skate on a frozen corn field behind his house in Pennsylvania before he started lessons.

From what I read in the Media Guide, Johnny after trying out the new ice skates in the corn fields, he enrolled in ice skating classes in 1996, making his start of official skating at 12 years old.

Johnny Weir Journal Update

As much as I like Johnny's skating and I'm truly happy to see him skating better this season, I just try to ignore whatever he says. Personally, I think Johnny just takes himself so seriously and truly believes that people hang on his every comment. Although he claims to have matured, and that may be true, he has a long way to go. His complaint about not getting "his due" over the award he won is just an example of how immature and insecure he is as a skater and a person.

He claims to care about people, the environment, etc. but in truth, he only cares about himself and saying outrageous things that keep him in the limelight. It's all about attention with Johnny and when it's not on him, he gets in a snit.

It gets very tiresome, petty and ridiculous.
