Junior Men

Considering that the top scorer was 145 and change (with a FS of 97) from Andrei Rogozine, what is there is to say? In 2008, the top US Junior score was 213.76 from Adam Rippon, the JGPF champion and soon-to-be World Junior Chhampion.

Rogozine's score would have placed 14th at 2008 US Men's Junior Championships.

Why always Canadian skaters have to be compared with US skaters?

Canada's population is one 10th of US population. So, in a sense Canada is lucky to have one or two internationally competitive skaters in each discipline. Recent population growth comes from immigrants largely from Eastern and Southern Asia (India, Pakistan), where winter sports are unknown and definitely not encouraged (with the exception of Emanuel Sandhu). You are looking at a country with the dwindling population base that has traditionally taken up winter sports and shifting demographics. Yeah, I don't forsee Canada being a skating powerhouse in the future.

I don't think anybody expected anything great from this result if JGP results were anything to go by.

Rogozine, the winner had a total score of 149.77 , beating the 2nd place finisher by 8 points and change. It really was a poorly skated event.

It really emphasizes the fact that except for Balde ( who is competing senior Canadians this year ) our JGP results are poor.

SC must review its JGP selection policy for the men next year. You know something is wrong when 2 of the guys that got JGP's ( Jackson Wood and Shaquille Davis) , fail to make it through the challenge at the junior level. As well many of those chosen age out after this season and are going nowhere ( Ferland, Lum , Wong ) . Note that Ferland won the bronze medal last year in junior and has gone significantly backwards this year.

SC must do something similar to what they did with the women this season with regards to selection. Note that none of the ladies chosen for JGP this season age out this year. I wouldn't chose any guys out of this bunch for the JGP next year who will age out after 2009-2010 season because it is clear they are going nowhere.

Jackson Wood broke his leg which was too bad.
Shaquille Davis has a long way to go to skate like a junior man ... yes he is working some harder tricks but his basic skating skills leave a lot to be desired.
