Kazuki Tomono

Kazuki after Chubu FS: https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASQBB62S3QBBPTQP002.html?iref=pc_ss_date_article

To the tune of "Die Fledermaus" Overture, Tomono made a conductor-like movement before he began to skate. When he landed his first 3 quadruple jumps, his face lit up.

He skated with the same momentum, and scored 168.56 points, reversing the 13 point deficit in the SP to win the competition.

In the SP of the previous day, his jumps had been very shaky as they had been at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany a little more than two weeks ago. After SP, he said, "I went into the competition with a bad memory of my last competition, and I think that led to my mistakes."

In order to get rid of his jump anxiety, he stopped "thinking about jumps," he said.
“I should jump in a controlled manner, move my left hand like this, .......”
He thought that the cause of his failure the day before was that he was too conscious of his jumps and his form was off. He said, "Just relax. My body remembers the moment, so I trusted it and jumped in a good, carefree way."

He broke the "spell" he had been under since the Nebelhorn Trophy.

The season has just begun.
Tomono was enthusiastic: "I think I've gotten rid of some of my anxieties. In FS) I am aiming for 180, 190 points, so I am not satisfied with my score. Sometimes I'm too occupied with jumps, so I'd like to refine other details."

I also have an impression that he already "owns" his Free Program, while his Short isn't completely tamed so early in the season.
I trust it will be in time! Nebelhorn or Regionals are of course pleasant to win, but it doesn't really matter to be a bit off there.
Just being curious, how many Men from Kinki Regionals are allowed into Nationals?
I have now a bit higher hopes of being able to go to Angers next month and maybe attend Grand Prix de France, I would be so pleased to applaud him.

Lucky you! :) I took one glance at the transport from my country, and was like 'nope'. Too bad, I've long wanted to see Kazuki and Sota compete at the same event, but good to know Kazuki's going to be supported. Would that be your first time seeing Kazuki live?
Maybe third time will be the charm for me (after CdP Luxembourg and GP Angers) 🤞

It would be my first time watching figure skating live!
I couldn't go support Alina or Alyona in Grenoble and was so sorry.
I don't know what's the difficulty in your travel, please DM me if I can help you. If you plan to fly to France, there are a few direct TGVs (high speed trains) from CDG and Orly airports (the latter via Orlyval to Massy-Palaiseau), others from Lyon or Lille (more human-sized airports). I'll admit CDG airport is not worthy of a developed country, particularly 2G terminal.
There are 2 flat hotels next street to the skating rink, I have tried both and they're good (I've never tried their breakfasts though). Usually they're cheap (<50€/night), but I suppose that with this GP they'll be more expensive, particularly if they were chosen by French fed for officials or athletes and teams (maybe they're too cheap for officials). One had a procedure a little tricky for non-French speakers in case of late arrival with a car to park. And one has a little city supermarket next door.

Thanks a lot for your offer of help, DizzyFrenchie! My issue is similar to Kirara's, so there's not much that can be done - it's just that the journey has got too expensive with the transfer, everything considered. The competition, hotel, and maybe some cheap flight to Paris, would barely work for me, but with further expenses to get there - train, local transport, they just make it more expensive than what my family can afford at the moment, and maybe even the flight itself would be too much.
I am still hopeful I can see Kazuki in the future, especially now that the covid travel restrictions are hopefully a thing of the past.

@DizzyFrenchie I hope you have a wonderful time! Like surimi, I wish I could go but unfortunately the travel costs make it too expensive for me.

Kazuki wearing the Senshu Koki jacket!

I'm so sorry. I'm still under 50% probability of going but I hoped you could go. And tickets are so cheap. 5€ for practice all day, all seats. 5 to 15€ for Short Program half-day depending on categories, and 5 to 50€ for Free Skate half day depending on categories (the best seats are gone, it's on Saturday, so it's easier to attend for most people). But it's true that cheap flights are a bit a thing of the past, and if COVID restrictions are off at the moment, we're threatened with energy saving restrictions and it may not be better.
I hope it will be broadcast at least.

wow, those prices are not so cheap for me if I wanted, say, 10th row long sides. It's probably cheap for the GP series, but I've never been to a GP, and have paid, at most, 90 euro per person for Finlandia all events, so these prices are still too high for me. Especially on top of accommodation and travel. If this is the world of big skating events, then I can only hope for WC to return to Prague one day, otherwise I'd stick to small competitions. 😥I hope Kazuki and Sota get senior Bs and Challengers in the near future.
But I hope you can go and cheer for Kazuki, I'm sure he'd be happy to see his fans cheering for him. :)

Iceparc Angers is a relatively small venue: 2500 seats. There's no 10th row! Gold seats have 4 rows (Judges side) or 5 (opposite side).
Training sessions (3d, 4th morning, 5th morning) are 5€ and people choose their seat, it can be just behind the judges if they arrive early I suppose. SP (4th afternoon) is 5€ on balconies (can be on the long side, seating where you want/can at arrival), 10€ on short sides and angle sides (can be 1st row). FS is 15€ on a balcony seat, 30€ on a short side/angle seat, 50€ on a Gold seat (long sides, few rows). Gala is 20€ on Balcony, 30€ in short side/angles, 50€ in Gold seats. So the whole event goes from 55€ (Balcony for SP, FS & Gala, free placement for practice) to 130€ (Gold for SP, FS & Gala, free placement for open practice). I'm happy to know that Finlandia is in the same pricing category: Skate Canada was much more expensive, at least when Yuzuru Hanyu competed there, not to speak of Torino GPF or Stockholm (attendance was cancelled, but prices were above 1100€ for a whole-event ticket on a short side).
I hope you can come next year if Kazuki skates there again!

Oh okay, I guess I misunderstood then, if the whole all-event ticket is 130 euro, then I agree it's similar to Finlandia prices, and not bad at all for a GP. I thought it was for men's competitions only. Yeah, hopefully I could go next time, if the energy/fuel crunch eases up a bit.

ooh, I need to read Kazuki's 'marriage advice', sounds fun! :D

I wonder how many Kazuki fans there are in the world? Of you had to guess a number what would it be?

A question I wonder if Kazuki will answer in one of his articles for Nonno or one of the other magazines he is in is about how he became the great person he is. While I don’t know him personally he seems like such a gentle man with a big heart, very emotional, dedicated, strong, friendly and funny. He has an honest face and eyes that are mysterious.

2026 Worlds is scheduled for Prague. I guess the question is, will our favorites still be skating by then?

what did he say? I couldn’t find a translate button on the website.
Here's the translation of the first page with DeepL:

He won a silver medal at the Four Continents Championships in January this year and placed 6th at the World Championships in March. Kazuki Tomono is a top figure skater on the world stage. He is nicknamed "Naniwa's Entertainer" for his expressive performances that draw in the audience as soon as he appears on the rink.

In fact, Tomono is also a well-known "sauna lover. Once a month, we will bring you his sauna-related talk, which draws you in just as much as his performances!

(If you have not read the previous article <#1>, please read it as well.)

The 2022-23 season has begun! Sauna in Germany! Thoughts on Sauna in Germany

--You just came back from Germany, didn't you? Welcome back! (*This interview was conducted at the end of September.)

I feel that the season has finally started. I was not satisfied with the result of the competition in Germany (Nebelhorn Cup), but I would like to continue practicing every day to improve my performance and precision.

--How was your visit to Germany?

I went to a town called Oberstdorf, and it was a wonderful place. It is a small, quiet town surrounded by high mountains, rich in nature, and the air is very clean. Even in summer, there was still white snow on the tops of the mountains, which contrasted beautifully with the blue sky. After the game, I walked around the town for a bit and thought that I would like to visit there again, and at the same time, I thought ...... there must be some nice saunas there (laughs).

--(laughs) - did it look like there would be? (Laughter)

Yes (laugh). (Laughs) "Yes. (Laughs) It looked really cold in the winter, and I was sure there would be saunas closely related to daily life. I didn't really plan to go this time, but I did some research and found a sauna that looked really nice.

--I wasn't really planning to go this time, but I did some research and found a sauna that looked really nice. I guess it depends on the country, region, and facility, but I heard that in Europe, especially in Germany, there are so-called "mixed baths," or facilities where men and women enter together.

I heard that there are facilities in Europe, especially in Germany, where men and women bathe together. If that were the case, I would be very nervous or ...... very embarrassed. If it was a mixed bath, I might not go (laughs). But if it were in Finland, I would definitely go.

--Well, it seems that in Finland, men and women are separated, and in mixed bathing facilities, people wear swimsuits, etc., doesn't it?

That seems to be the case.

--This year, the Grand Prix Series' Russia Cup was held in Finland as an alternative (Round 6), so you must have been expected to compete a bit (laughs). (*Tomono competed in Round 3 and Round 5)

(*Tomono participated in Round 3 and Round 5.) "To be honest, I did (laughs). (*Tomono competed in Round 3 and Round 5.) "Well, but I would like to go there someday even if it is not an expedition, so I will do my best for the games I will compete in. Of course, I will aim for the podium in the Grand Prix Series this season as well, and I want to make my performance and result outstanding.

--I'm hoping that my performance and the result will be outstanding. We are rooting for you wholeheartedly, too!
