To the tune of "Die Fledermaus" Overture, Tomono made a conductor-like movement before he began to skate. When he landed his first 3 quadruple jumps, his face lit up.
He skated with the same momentum, and scored 168.56 points, reversing the 13 point deficit in the SP to win the competition.
In the SP of the previous day, his jumps had been very shaky as they had been at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany a little more than two weeks ago. After SP, he said, "I went into the competition with a bad memory of my last competition, and I think that led to my mistakes."
In order to get rid of his jump anxiety, he stopped "thinking about jumps," he said.
“I should jump in a controlled manner, move my left hand like this, .......”
He thought that the cause of his failure the day before was that he was too conscious of his jumps and his form was off. He said, "Just relax. My body remembers the moment, so I trusted it and jumped in a good, carefree way."
He broke the "spell" he had been under since the Nebelhorn Trophy.
The season has just begun.
Tomono was enthusiastic: "I think I've gotten rid of some of my anxieties. In FS) I am aiming for 180, 190 points, so I am not satisfied with my score. Sometimes I'm too occupied with jumps, so I'd like to refine other details."
