The only chance of a GP is that he gets the host pick for Skate Canada.

Though I'm not sure if it was planned to have 4 quads instead of 3. But still. Wowie.....That unfortunately means little room for error in a way since he only has 2 types of quads in his arsenal. Which means he can't repeat any triples if he chooses to do 4 quads with only the 4T and 4S. Which means like...well um....wait a minute....I don't see a 3Lo in the protocol...I wonder if he planned to do that jump at all.

i haven't seen nor watched anything yet but your posts... I AM THRILLED... bring it on...

Now i am going to watch the skates and protocols...

Soon I will comment :)

OKay.. here i am ... delighted...

great to see him put 4 quads in... he didn't do put two in the SP though, I wonder why... I think it is smart for him to do 4 quads and 1 3A... his 3A is not super consistent so he may feel it's better to do another quad instead.

Yes, he fell on two, but we can imagine that he may just land all 4 later on (being greedy)

regarding the 3L.... I noticed that he only did one combo in the LP... well, there was another one planned with the 4S. I can see him do 4S-2T for that combo...

Remember last year, he was attempting 4T-3T-3L.... that could be where the 3L goes.... maybe it was planned earlier in the program and since he fell he added the 3T on the second attempt????

If not, I think he has done 3F-3L in the past which would be another place to add it on as truly, there is a combo missing from this program (not just on the fallen 4S)...

but yeah... despite missing combos and two falls, that's a pretty good score for him and I don't think it's that overscored... considering PCS meteoric rises in FS last year, and what Kevin got here, it would be in the same ball park internationally..

So this is truly exciting and I think that it will be a hard decision for Skate Canada to choose between Kevin and Keegan for the SC TBA.

I think one will get SC and the other will get Autumn Classic ?

I have to agree that we can't be sure of what his jump content is because of those falls, but it's quite likely that the SP 2T was meant to be a 4T. No way he's doing a 3T there. And the second 4S is to be a combo, of course. Another 4S-3T like in the SP, perhaps?

As for GPs, there is only Skate Canada as we know. Right now, Kevin appears to be the favourite for it having outperformed Keegan (both Skate Detroit and BC Summer Skate). But I think we have to wait for high performance camp. That's why the deadline for Autumn Classic decisions is September 5th. Depending on the results at camp, I wouldn't be surprised by Challenger Series assignments for both Keegan and Kevin. Kevin has to get one as a podium finisher seeing as how Liam has one. As for the Skate Canada spot, it should be decided by a combination of the summer results, evaluations at high performance camp, and Challenger Series results. At least, that's what I'd do. Skate Canada on the other hand, may do as they wish. We know that all too well...

hehe... i had seen that popped 4T as a popped 3F.... so i thought he did 2f... but yeah... you are right.. he was aiming at 4T... so that's solved for the SP...

the LP...

well i have no clue...

What I would want him to do is

4S-3T then... like in SP

4T-2T-2L

and 3F-3L

what do you think ?

And finally, as I have a time conflict with SC and cannot go, I want all my faves at autumn classic. :) :) :) so bring them on :) Kevin is one of them with Mr chiddyobvious :)

also, nobody is talking about Nam... so we will have to see what Skate Canada does give him... I mean, yes he has been having issues but you gotta believe in mr spicy :)

Okay guys. For fun (Which I do for a lot of programs skaters I like skate cause it's fun and exercises your mind), I calculated the potential score he could have gotten if there were no falls, no popped jumps, all three combos (And sort of guessing what could have been) were there in the FP and thus making the 2nd 4S have full points for the base value, all spins and StSq be level 4, and adding up the negative GOE to be zero (For fairness measures since 0 is in the "middle."). This is going to be a long post so hold on:

For the SP: His score was 78.01 with a TES of 38.76 and a PCS of 39.25. The PCS score stays as it is because...well yeah. So what I did was add 10.3 to make a 4T, add 2 to make the -2.00 GOE go to zero, and add 0.4 to make the CCSp3 to CCSp4. That adds 12.7 to the score. Which will makes the PCS stay at 39.25 but the TES goes up to 51.46 and thus making the SP score 90.71.

For the FP, it was a bit longer to calculate. In the FP, he got 163.21 with a TES of 83.21 and a PCS of 82.00. The score was 2 points lower than the two values calculated since he had two falls. So first we add two back into the score. Then we add 4+4 for the two quads that he fell on which gave them a -4.00 GOE each. Apparently his CCSp3 got a -0.06 GOE on it, we add 0.06 back into it. Then the 3Lz got -1.12, so we simply add 1.12 back. As a reminder, when I add numbers back to the GOE, this is only to get the GOE back to zero. No positive numbers for fairness to the calculation. Then we subtract 7.35 and then add 10.5 to get the full value of the 2nd 4S if he hypothetically did it. Which then leads us to figuring out the other two combo jumps that didn't happen. As me and someone noticed from the protocol, he didn't do a 3Lo at all. Deciding if it would go into the 3S or 3F for the combo wouldn't matter for hypothetical calculation matters since it'll still be 5.61 points for the base value. So then we simply add 5.61. The 2nd 4S will have to be a combo jump. So as someone mentioned above, maybe it'll be a 3-jump combo making it a 4S-2T-2Lo. So that'll add 1.3 and 1.8 into the calculation as well. Finally, we add 0.4 and 0.6 respectively to the CCSp3 and StSq3 to level both of them up to level 4. So, that means we add 24.04 to the original score of 163.21 to get the PCS score stay at 82.00 but the TES will go up to a whopping 105.25. This will make the FP score a total of 187.25. Or you could have added the original TES and PCS together and add 22.04 instead to get the same results.

This will in turn give a total competition score of 277.96. Which is huge. Is it likely that it could happen to him to hit things cleanly enough to get that high of a score? It's possible, but I wouldn't put my bets on it to be honest. Considering how he doesn't a good reputation to be super clean and super consistent (I'm a huge fan and I admit that he doesn't have superb consistency). And that international scores are generally lower. But still it's always fun to calculate possible scores.

And this is actually SO much fun for me to calculate.

well that's interesting regarding potential score.

TBH : yeah.. we all know that Kevin sometimes UR... but, it's the beginning of the season and if he had skated like this last year, we would have been very happy. So let's wait for him to stabilize things and hope for the best :)

If he had a skate like that as in the potential score at Canadian Nationals....oh wait Patrick still would have won....Dang it.

He still should be very happy. I think putting four quads might pay off. Me and a friend of mine (She's from Germany) created some programs together for fun for him just for our entertainment purposes and I thought of maybe he do 4 quads. Like I said earlier, it could either pay off immensely, or it could prove disastrous and there's very little room for error, especially since he's only doing the 4T and 4S, he can only do each triple jump once.

And well, I didn't see in the protocol and underrotations in the quads, so that's another good thing. Makes me happy to know that my continuous hoping that he would come back has proven to be a good thing.

Seriously.....though....4 quads. That's making a BOLD statement. That he's not playing around, that he WANTS to be back and competing.

By the way, that score I calculated would have gotten him bronze at 2016 Worlds.

he deserves the host pick as being on the podium last year, upgrading his BV and also, for his pure determination in reaching to be a top skater again. I admire Kevin so much for his guts and grits.

Wow. Skate Canada International has now become the podium showdown from 2016 Canadian Nationals.

Very good for Kevin to fight his way back from surgery to land a GP spot.

Im so glad to see Kevin in SC! I've wished you would skate in the international field again! Good luck Kevin! :hap10:

Good grief! Four years - I hadn't even realised...

(Note: Not that that means a whole lot, I'm afraid I'm terrible with keeping track of time... )

Last time he was in a GP event, I was 17, a high school senior, and not in the skating fandom....dang....now I'm 21, a college senior (Well in 6 days I'll be one), and very much into the skating fandom.
