There's nothing wrong with being graceful, but I think it would be nice if we had at least ONE top lady who displays the style that I refer to as "athletic artistry" -- the ability to interpret the music but without all the balletic frills and nuances. (2 examples of ladies who displayed this type of skating were Debi Thomas and Tonya Harding -- yes, some of you may roll your eyes at the mention of the latter, but IMHO there was never anything wrong with Tonya's musical interpretation; she just chose not to interpret it in the way that was popularly accepted for the ladies.). I think of the current crop, Yukari Nakano comes the closest to displaying this, and Kimmie is more than capable of it if she can get her technical problems ironed out. Certainly Kimmie does not look the type to do the "delicate little ballerina" thing; a more athletic style IMO looks better on her than her trying to skate like Yu-Na Kim or Mao Asada or Sarah Meier or Caroline Zhang or really just about MOST of the top ladies these days. The MEN, for some reason, are "allowed" to show a wide variance of styles, and that's what made the Men THE category to watch this past season, IMHO. The ladies are essentially all skating in the exact same style and it's quite frankly getting boring, I don't care HOW talented these ladies are. Yukari is at least bringing something different to the table, and Kimmie could as well.
