Ladies' Long Program

Emily Hughes USA

Triple flip-double toe: very shaky
triple lutz: opened up into single, then two footed
triple salchow: clean, but ugly
death drop: pulls her leg up to body in sit spin
layback: very nice, pulls up into nice biellmann position
triple salchow: very shaky, I think she now loses all credit since she did 2 solo triple salchows now, maybe I am wrong on 1 and 1 was something else?
triple toe-double toe: nice
spiral sequence: more Biellmanns, I hate that new rule, every girl doing Biellman spirals
combination spin: camel-sit-pulls leg up, nice speed, nice spin
triple toe: clean
double axel: very nice
combination spin: camel-sit-pulled leg up sideways, alot of the spins look exactly the same under COP

I am not sure how she is going to score. She may have a triple eliminated altogether, she may have some triples downgraded, hard to say.

Emily:
That very first triple might get downgraded...
Popped 3Z
Nice, classy layback -- but isn't her skirt a little too short, or maybe her underwear the wrong color, somehow watching that spin made me a little uncomfortable...

Nice 3F-2T late in the program.

Saw her going into that 3T with real determination (clean). Footwork a bit sluggish, fading out toward the end.

Nice 2A and spin to end the program.

Not sure whether she'd get full credit for some of those triples, but she definitely fought through it. Gutsy performance.

Mai's program was a disaster.

I must disagree with whoever said Emily looked like she needed to slim down. I think she looks wonderful. Struggled through her performance. Her dress is beautiful and very flattering.

I think she looks fabulous - loved the dress too. Too bad she struggled, but this program has a lot of promise and given it's early and she just started a whole new life, i think it is pretty good. i love the dramatic music too, it sort of just grabs you.

Emily must have changed coaches, I have never seen her with those two before. Apparently the Swedish guy was at the 88 Olympics as a skater.

Wow is that Mira? Makeup, beautiful hairdo, nice costume. Wow.

Mira Leung CAN

Triple lutz- clean, a bit shaky
Triple flip- very nice, nice flowing edge out
triple salchow- very nice again
combination spin- camel, pulls into a donught, pulls blade up, nice
layback spin- pulls leg up into Biellman, decent, not great layback position
spiral sequence- holds leg up sideways ala Arakawa early on, quite nice
triple toe- clean
double axel-double toe-single toe- I think that last jump was popped
triple flip- stepped out
I missed a jump and spin while screen was buffering
footwork sequence- moves well to music
combination spin- camel, sit, layback, camel-donut, pretty nice

Quite nice I thought, too bad about those couple mistakes late.

First Triple Lutz was underrotated. The jump pass you missed was a clean 3Lz + 2Lo.

Well, the judges gifted Emily with 1st place . . . can't say I'm surprised. Everything was a struggle in her program.

Caroline Zhang USA

I missed first jump
triple lutz-double clean
triple salchow- stumbed out of, might have been underrotated
double axel- small but nice
death drop- very strong spin as usual
camel combination- camel-sit-pulled the leg up, like almost all girls are doing, nicely done
gorgeous charlotte into triple flip- nicely done
spiral sequence- superb positions, holds them for long time, great balance and control
triple loop-double toe-double loop- she went so slow going in, I cant believe she landed it
triple lutz- so tiny, looked like a bad takeoff, but landed still
footwork sequence- nice twizzle section in the middle of it, moved well to music
layback- very nice position, exceptional biellman at end
combination spin- very fast, stunning positions, centred perfectly, tremendous finish

Caroline was captivating! The first lady of the day not to put me to sleep . . . she's so special!

I'll have to see the protocols before I decide, but I had this gut reaction that Mira should be a little further ahead of Emily. Anyway, I hope both of them, but especially Mira, are proud of their first outing and build on this. Way to go!

Caroline's final spins are pretty amazing...i got teary eyed watching.

Caroline reminds me of a young Sasha Cohen. She has many Sasha-esque qualites but Sasha-like flaws too.

I think Caroline's 3/3 and her 3S both got downgraded. Not even 100 for the FS! Worse than all her junior LP's last year, must be a bit disappointing...

But good enough for at least a bronze, and the technical controllers are definitely being tough this whole competition.

Miki starting out brilliantly (though no 3/3).

Interesting that Caroline got better PCS's than her SP, whereas I thought her SP had more speed, character, musical finesse, and better connection with the audience over all. Might be the fact that she is no longer completely "new" to the judges.

For her first Senior International, she should be quite proud of that. Yes, there were mistakes, yes, she got some jumps downgraded but overall this is a great starting point. Bronze is pretty good :) and those over her are the two last Wolrd Champions, so let's not be too harsh!

Kypma

Miki Ando JPN

I missed first jump
triple salchow- gorgeous
triple flip- popped wide open into single, stumbled out of
combination spin- camel-sit-pulled leg up
spiral sequence- very high leg on first spiral, more biellman positions
triple loop- clean but very shaky
triple lutz- high and clean
triple toe-double toe-double loop- well done
double axel- nice
death drop- sit spins, kind of stumbled out of
footwork sequence- very slow, complicated steps, her footwork sequences look too hard for her ability in footwork to me
combination spin- good speed, well centred, ugly sit positions, rest is good though
layback spin- so so

I dont think this will be a winning skate unless Kimmie bombs her skate. She looks like half the skater she was at Worlds last year or Skate America last year.

I just don't understand why she is getting lower scores than her junior competitions...must be frustrating for her, and she might stop attempting the 3-3 if it keeps getting downgraded.
