Ladies' Long Program

Mira Leung = she is really cute now. Good hair-do, make-up and costume. It was time!!!

Also the commentator said that she improved in grace and movements and that finally she is trying to find a style for her.

interesting...not quite sure what to say. Not the best of either Miki or Kimmie, but they fought through and did appear to be the class of the field. Kimmie does seem to like this music a lot, and congrats to her for winning. I'll look forward to seeing how these programs develop as the season unfolds.

I thought Mira was pretty good actually. Back to her solid jump consistency, but as usual dinged for underrotation. There is real choreography in this program and she delivered it pretty well I thought. She is just so damned slow, and until she injects some speed into things, she will be stuck below 100 no matter what she does. LOL...as soon as she came onto the ice the first place my eyes went was straight to her boots. I think she looks fantastic though and 93 is a pretty good score for her. I can't see her ever getting the triple triple she talks about though, not moving so slowly and getting so little height. On the other hand, I thought her jump entrances looked alot better than last year, not so much of an obvious dip...except one jump later in the program she reverted back.

This downgrade madness has to stop. It's getting ridiculous. Read protocols yourself, not a single lady's triple has not been downgraded...

I can't believe this. If this trend continues, I'm afraid this sport will die. Sometimes, it's so hard for ordinary audience to tell even from the TV screen whethere there's a slight underrotation.

They must have misspoken. She only had 6 triples(?), it's impossible to get 40+ if only 1 triple is ratified.

I suspect two triples were downgraded...

I hate this CoP system, it's getting worse and worse. Nobody can understand what's going on... It's killing figure skating.

She had 7 Triples and 5 were downgraded. It's not hard to understand at all. ???

I'm guessing that both of her Triples in the 3-3 were downgraded, as well as the Salchow, the Loop, and the second Lutz.

I told everyone that I was really worried about Caroline's jumps -- that they are always at least a quarter turn cheated. If a quarter turn cheat is where you're normally at, you're extremely prone to getting downgraded because any mistake at all that slows down your jump (whether it be entrance speed, take-off, or air position) is going to make you land short of where the jump needs to be at to be considered a real Triple.

Caroline's downgrades
3R (never expected that one)
3lz and e
3S
3F-3T both
and her 3lz had an e

She really need jump specialist and ASAP if she wants to be successful at Senior level. Those jumps have BAD BAD technique and as she grows they will get only worse.

I don't agree, the flutzing punishment is needed badly and I am happy that it is in place now. I hope that it will not be selective though.

I'm really happy Kimmie won. Despite the mistakes I really enjoyed her program and I feel she has improved so much.

Emily did much better than I thought she would and I think she'll do fine this season.

Caroline has a lot to work on but she is such a beautiful skater to watch.

I'm guessing that both of her Flips were downgraded, the Toeloop and Salchow were downgraded, and the second Lutz was downgraded.

Yeah well it's really difficult for me to tell on the tv screen...I could have sworn the loop was fully rotated though...

I agree. I really love to see a skater improve and I think Mira really, really has. Yes, she was slow and even tentative, but I sensed emotion from her and some real improvement in technique with her jumps and basic skating. I also really, really appreciated what i perceived as improved upper body position and movement and the use of her arms was nice. I do hope to see her continue on this path, it's exciting to watch!

Where is the info coming from that five of CZ's triples were downgraded?

I thought she looked nervous. She was tentative going into the jumps. The circular (?) footwork going into the combination spin was nice. Overall, I liked the program but that might have something to do with the music selection. :p

I would place Miki above Caroline, but not Kimmie. I don't think the latter sold ND as well as TFB; there were so many swells in the music that called for a dramatic move which Kimmie didn't provide. Miki and Kimmie both popped a jump each, but I thought Miki was faster overall and sold the choreography better.

Still, not too bad a senior debut for Caroline (and my prediction was correct!). ;) I think Miki and Kimmie have much yet to deliver as the season progresses, so I don't know if I'd say that Mao and Yu-Na have it all wrapped up. That's way too premature a prediction to make.

Oh yeah, and yay to Elene for fighting back. Tugba impressed me, too.

Wow, EVERY skater had downgrades in LP in this ladies' competition! Is this a first under COP? Aren't they being just a little _too_ strict about it? So nobody was deemed competent enough in this competition to land all the triples that they planned? Wow.:scratch::scratch:

i can't believe the ammount of downgrades in this competition.
and i hope that kimmie finds a way to clean up her 3-3, and land all of her combinations for she is missing either one of her first two combinations so often.

First, congrats to Caroline for her brilliant senior debut. But, this downgrade/e fest is unheard of. I knew it was going to happen, but never knew it would be this disastrous. Looks like Yuna and Mao will really be held up (and possibly Carolina).

I dont think there is anything wrong with a rule that preaches proper jump technique. If Caroline if forced to learn proper jump technique to not be docked points so be it. I love her skating overall, but I have no problem with that.

I thought Kimmie deserved to win since she looked more confident and attacked much more then Miki. Miki looked heavy and unsure of herself the whole time and it was uncomfortable to watch her.

Caroline's spirals only got lvl1? Must not be holding it long enough.
