Ladies Long Program

Back to Kimmie -- for the kind of 2nd season-half she’s had, 7th place overall isn’t bad. (A lot of us would’ve preferred she not have the pressure of competing here at all.) But OUCH bigtime at the freeskate placement.
Yes - and if she didn't have the deduction for the two falls then her LP would have been 9th instead of 12th.

For Bebe, her LP would have ranked 10th without the deduction for the two falls. Also, she would have finished in 8th over the Finnish girls instead of 10th.

Back to Kimmie again: Her winning LP score two years ago was almost 130 points!!! Today her LP score is more than 30 points less!!!  :o

Forgot to say great courage of Mao. It must hurt like hell both physically and mentally with that fall. But she put herself together very quickly and delivered a great skating. Well deserved World Champion.

Yukari, too bad. Next time rotate those jumps completely. She's not my favourate skater but she showed great attack and confidence, skated like a champion. To be honest, if Yu-na was off podium I'll be really really sad. On the other hand if Yukari rotated all her jumps she should have won. Justice is more important. Otherwise what's the value of winning a medal when you, and a lot of people around the world, know you don't deserve it.

Don't like Kostner - but for the first time in her life she went for every jump without singling and doubling every attempt. She got dinged for the little mistakes - but she completed 7 Triples and 2 double Axels without any underrotation and edge-call. She got -2 on the solo Flip, -1 on the Lutz, -1,5 on the 2A-3T, nearly -1 on the 3S-2T.

Mao and Yu-Na only completed 5 Triples - much better, but 5 or 7 Triples is a pretty big difference pointwise - even with the deductions.

That said: I am soooo beyond happy for Mao! Good job, girl! My heart stopped when she slipped on that Axel take-off. And to pull it together like that - wonderful!

Was it just me or was Yu-Na (who was also wonderful) a bit tired in the last minutes of her program? Her footwork seemed a tad tentative and her jumps didn't have much height left towards the end of the program. (By the way, who gave Yu-Na +1 GOE for the single Lutz?)

After her fall Mao Asada needed 10 seconds(!) to come back to her program. I can´t understand that she won the PCS. It is a little scandal.

I'm VERY SURPRISED Carolina held it together as well as she did in the LP. If only Yu-Na had not fallen and been in 5th in the SP. :frown::cry::no:

Yes, but if she had skated cleanly, the PCS would naturally have gone up as well. No way of knowing where she really would have been without the falls.

Yup, she needs to up the technical content this summer. Callaghan says that's the plan. A lot of the ladies need to up the technical content. It's hard to break into the medals without a triple-triple. A lot of them also have to address the wrong edge takeoff problems that the judges never used to care about.

I hope someone will understand with these numbers...

(in order of free skate ranking)

Yu na- Base tech value: 58.51 Tech value with GOE: 64.82 Total GOE: 6.31

Mao- Base tech value: 56.40 Tech value with GOE: 61.89 Total GOE: 5.49

Caro- Base Tech value: 64.28 Tech Value with GOE: 61.89 Total GOE: -2.4

I think it's all fair an square, I wish people would stop speaking of a scandal....

Perhaps recovering from that fall and producing an otherwise outstanding lp was considered. Seriously, aside from the fall, it was nice to see her outshine her nerve demons, and the footwork was just out of this world.

One question though...
Did she attempt the 3A again at the end but only did a 2A? It looked like she was going to, and if she did that would have been amazing

Well said! But this is not a scandal for anyone...I guess the judges understood taht otherwise Kostner would have won...I and it can't happen...I mean...look at what has happened on this board for her second, and you understand...

This is an interesting post. I certainly remember Tonya stopping and restarting because of her skates (laces?) and the Zhangs (?) stopping at the Olys because of the horrible fall on the throw...

Am I correct in assuming that Mao's "skating" while recovering is considered part of the program and must be judged as such?

Not trying to feed the fire, but I'm not sure what the policy about judging is at that point...

Congratulation to all the ladies, especially to Yu-Na after that unexpected fall in the SP. The only thing I can't really stand is the judges placing Kostner above Nakano in the LP. For me, despite the beautiful 3-3-2 at the beginning, the rest of her program was somewhat sloppy throughout. It was a big relief for me though of not seeing the judges have her on the top of the podium.

On the bright side Yukari is skating better and better - 177.40 is an improvement over her PB of 172.96.

Although she's turning 23 this year she still has time left - look at Butyrskaya (26 - years old - 1999 World) and Arakawa (27 year old - 2006 Olympic Gold).

Plus I'm still hoping she fixes her leg wrap! I have to admit it does bother me but I love her anyhow.

Go Yukari!!

Can't wait to watch her program on CBC tonight.

Laura Lepisto went from 21st to 8th!!!

Yes, that was really great! I just hope that Laura would give up doing a triple-triple combination in the short programme, because it is not good to be too far behind after the short programme. She would benefit from a clean sp with otherwise more difficulty like Kiira Korpi does. It was really painful to watch Kiira´s skating, huh, but it was no surprise that she did not succeed in the freeskate, but I sure expected her to do a lot better.

But overall it was a dismal competition - in the Top Ten are ladies who only completed three clean Triples, Laura Lepistö only completed two clean Triple Toes and two clean Triple Loops!

I didn't know that Kimmie got three underrotation calls - ouch.
