The committee would then decide which 6 out of the top 10 scorers would get to the Grand Prix final. They would make their decision by compensating for score disparities between the different GP Events.
There's some argument for this, but the problem is that it's not the same judges for each event (or the same caller) and scores can vary quite wildly from event to event for the same approximate level skate. Just like scores seem to automatically increase for the Olympics and Worlds, even when skaters may not perform as well as they did earlier in the season.
However, I do think it can make the GPF a bit of a less serious competition when some of the obviously strong competitors don't make the cut because they were in tougher fields. I'm just not sure there is a perfect way to make sure the best skaters make the final.
