Ladies Short Program

Extremely impressive for Alissa!

(BTW, whatever happened to her twin sister, Amber, who also used to skate?)

I'm just imagining how exciting Nats will be if Alissa continues to skate this well, and if Kimmie has a good season as well.
What a shoot-out that will be!!!

Hey Guys

I posted on the thread about Fumie coming back and said that Yan Liu landed a couple triple axels in the practice yesterday morning. I was mistaken. It was actually, Yukari Nakano from Japan. She did not attempt it tonight in the short program, but i'll be watching for it tomorrow night in the ladies long. Way to Go Alissa, Fantastic Skate Tonight!!

Good start for Yukari. Go for that 3-Axel in the LP!

Doggygirl, thanks so much for the commentary. Especially on those skaters that we won't get to see on TV.

So, time to revise our predictions for the U.S. Olympic team? Alissa and Kimmie are shoo-ins of course, but who will get that coveted third spot? Bebe? Emily?

RealtorGal, I believe that Amber Czisny had some boot problems and nagging injuries last year which set her back. She did finish second (to Alissa, LOL) in the 2004 collegiate championships, but I'm not sure if she has skated competitively since.

She was recently reported to be considering switching to ice dance, where the jumping is not so hard on the body.

If Alissa is successful during the GP, it might give some encouragement to other skaters to try the new boots -- which, in turn, might prevent injuries.

I don't remotely dispute the results here, but on Czisny - she struck me as still juniorish in some aspects of her presentation and I think some work still needs to be done on a real connection with the music. It was nice, but not really memorable, if you know what I mean.

Rochette: I thought she looked great skating-wise - though big ouch obviously on the double-footed flip which was also downgraded due to underrotation to a double - really hurt her totals. Can't hold back. As someone else already commented, I was disappointed in her music - instrumental Madonna? Yech. A giant step backwards from her beautiful and mature pieces from last year. Dare I hope she changes it between now and say, Canadian Nationals?

Kostner - ouch. That's all really.

Suguri - wonderful choreography, and I actually thought she looked like she'd really worked on her arms - looked much more fluid and less stiff than in the past.

I have it on good authority that Weiss is not such a heterosexual family man after all, and is planning to compete in Ladies at nats - hoping for that 3rd spot behind Kimmie / Alissa (oops, did I just jinx Alissa's gold medal??). I'm sure you didn't mention MK and Cohen because as we all know from 10 pages of posts in the Edge, they are both WAY too busy faking injuries and conspiring with doctors, surgeons, astronauts and the USFSA to worry about Nationals and/or making the Oly team.

 ....you are one funny Dirty Old Lady, Doggygirl.

Anyway, what a great competition for Alissa thus far! I am so excited for her. She has come so far in such a short time and should really be given some props for all of her obvious hard work. I hope she can stick with it in the LP. I'd love to see either Alissa or Fumie win this event. They are my two favorites competing.

Thank you!! ;)

I too have always liked Fumie. I really like the music and costume choice for her SP - I think it suits her (and least it suits ME!). I am very interested in seeing the score sheets as I suspect her non-jump element levels are pretty low. If so, (and I'm sure someone with a much better eye than me can comment about that now) I hope she can up the ante as the season progresses.

And of course I hope Alissa holds it together for the LP. Keeping her composure being in the top spot for the first time, to my way of thinking, is way more important for her at this stage then the actual outcome of the event.

We'll know later!!
