If anything she has it harder because she's being compared to an Olympic Champion (especially by the media) but she doesn't seem to really care lol she just goes out and "does her best"

Some areas of her skating I actually find superior to Sarah's, although she is hugely unlikely to ever match her achievements. She definitely is a more exuberant skater with more personality, while her sister was very subdued and methodical out there. Emily seems more powerful and her ice coverage seems better. I think Emily's posture is better too. Her lutz technique is better also.

The flip was landed in front of me and it was indeed cheated. When you clearly see the landing mark on the ice, there is no way to argue...
Some skates got away with poor spins too, not holding their change of edge for long enough or not having a clear while spinning... We were quite ??? by the SP marks. I wish I could see the protocols.

Hughes will be lucky to medal, she is not a good freeskater. Why did Wagner get 8th place? She did not seem to skate bad.
Having watched the CBC midnight broadcast...
Lepisto: Very nice to watch, there was a nice simplicity and flow to her program (not sure how that translates in COP terms, but she certainly did alright here with it)... her triple triple was impressive in that the 2nd 3toe was much higher!
Asada - was really not particularly impressive, probably deserved 3rd place (though we were not shown Hughes!). Didn't seem to be feeling the music at all, her choreo is very by-numbers. They said she skated slower than in practise.
Rochette: THIS is the kind of SP she has been needing. Great music choice for her. (Rochette has been probably my favourite skater for a while now, but I recognize that her biggest downfall, even more than this vague "inconsistency" she is tagged with, has been having SP's that are just slightly lacking in presenting her as an elite skater.. I say this even though I like what she tried last year) She needs to now toughen up and become good at fully executing her SP's, but this program is really really well designed. Given that, the 55 does seem a tad disappointing even in light of the mistakes... I think the judges really must want to see a bit more command from her, like how Hughes skates. That is what a music choice like this is for, so I hope she will rise to the level. Her team does always seem very smart about assessing what she needs. Something has softened a bit in her interpretation - the SL footwork, as Tracey pointed out, has a "dancing" quality to it - very nice! She looked absolutely beautiful last night too.
We didn't see Nakano either!
Cynthia: quite nice to watch, has some nice musical qualities and expression... her PCS seemed too low! I'm guessing she probably was lacking in transitions, and you can tell she is not in a real comfort zone at this point and is thinking through the program. But she does have some charm to her.
Hawker: Interesting lightness to her skating, and the music suited her rather well. I was impressed. I think of her now as the Butyrskaya of Canada

I am stunned. In total shock. did not know the skating was sarting so soon.. missed the live disscuison... but i saw the results saturday morning. Mao in 3rd? A girl from Finland I never heard of in 1st? Why is Ashley all the way down there in 8th or somthing if she did a decent 3/3 and was otherwiase clean? Emily beating mao and Nakano has to be the judgig mistake of the year! Ashley should have beat Emily!
I guess what we are seeing here is that the judges really, really want clean jumps this year. They are not going to take kindly to 2 foots, cheated jumps, step outs, fall outs, falls etc. If you skate a simple program and skate it clean, you will plcae above the harder program that had a bobble or two. this sysytem is getting me so confused. The past year or two it just had to be difficult, not matter how bad it looked. Now it's the oppisote.

That is an excellent observation. I wonder if this is a deliberate change of policy by the ISU.

It's still an extremely new system - changes are going to be made over night and tweaking will happen... let's not give up on it yet

I'm joking!!!I think that this year the judges are doing a great job!!!! Cheated jumps, flawed technique, wrong edges, two footed jumps are penalized! That's great!!!
I hope to see penalizations also for travelled spins and spirals with bad edges!!
I want to see simpler programs, but with elements done properly!
And in the process of the changes, confusing the **** out of fans and further decreasing its audience.

Okay, I'm really confused. Did the judges just choose to ignore Emily's severely cheated jumps? I REALLY want to see the ladies' protocols!

I agree with questionning Emily's jumps rotation but, to me, what is way more frustrating is the big lack of rotation on Nakano's fallen 3z that was not downgraded. That's what kept her in 4th in the SP and 2nd overall. In addition, she was rewarded for a couple of triples in the LP that were also questionable.
Hopefully, the 2nd place that she should not have with the extra undeserved points and the 3rd place Joannie had won't prevent the latter from participating in the GPF.
