Ladies' SP

Great short program.... Joannie was definitely gifted a few points in areas, but they could hand her the medal for just skating out there and just bowing and I would be proud of her. Definitely a Kleenex moment! I was so nervous when I was the slow-motion replay of Yu-Na's 3Lz+3T, since it was literally right at the point where the technical caller good have gone either way. Great job for her keeping it together after knowing that Mao just got her season's best score. Mao was great... how exciting to have your best skate of the season at the Olympics. I do think Mao and Yu-Na should be slightly closer together in score. Perhaps the 3A should have a higher base score in Ladies (where few ladies have ever done it competition) than it does in Mens (where it is pretty much a mandatory element). So glad that Miki hung her... I didn't really get a good look at the landing, but the 3Lo did look rotated, just that she bobbled and leaned back a bit too much and didn't check the landing. So proud of Mirai and Rachael making it into the final flight at such young ages and at their first Olympics. What an experience, especially when so few people thought they would even have a chance. Congrats to all of them. It looks like the Ladies event isn't over with the SP after all!

lol I think I'm a bit giddy that my 5 of my 6 favorites made it into the top 6 (Mao, Yu-Na, Miki, Mirai, Joannie... just missing poor Akiko :( )

And it's Okay for girls from other continents to get there without landing jumps? Racist...

It's almost a comic to see all those European ladies splatting but scoring big in international competitions for the past few years. It's so refreshing to see a change.

I'm happy for Joannie that she was able to skate clean tonight.
That being said, I don't get why her scores are so high over Mirai's?
I don't so much disagree with the order as I do the point spread. Its just like with the men. This point spread is one way of judges picking winners before the competition plays out. I don't like it.

I think the 78 for YuNa is a bit of a gift... I think the differential is a little high... nothing either mao or yuna would do could be that much different than the other... they are very similar. Either could be on top but not by THAT much.

Good job Flatt and Nagasu. Not bad for rebuilding.

I feel so for Rochette but I disagree with the marks.... a triple/double combo.... and within 2.5 points of Mao....?? hmmm

I am watching mao asada in a big screen tahnk god, and her axel was amazing!, the program was well skated, and i am glad the reverse spread is back, wonderful with the 2a

Don't worry. If Mirai skates like she did at Nats it's a cinch she'll finish in the top 6. Most of the others in the top 10 will falter in the LP as they usually do. If Rochette skates last and wins, it would be more Hollywood than any movie. But 3rd would be great for her. She usually does not throw down 2 clean programs so here's hoping she does it this time.

78.50! Yu-na rocks the house
I'm in awe with this lady, this primma donna, this powerhouse skater! I love her
and wish her the best of luck in the LP!

*^^* Me too. After a fall on flip this morning.. and after mao's quite clean program....I was amazed by Yuna's performance...*^^*

great job by Yu-na, Joannie, Mirai and Mao! !!! and Elena of Geogia, and Yan Liu! So happy all my favorite skaters skated well! Go for the LP girls!

Thoughts:

Asada-san: Had a lot of fire, especially in that 3a jump! Totally attacked that program, sending a statement to KYN to top that.

KYN: Answers back to Asada-san with her James Bond performance. Felt that it was slow, done well, but slow. Like a slow part in a Bond movie.

Rocket: With all that she's going through it's great that she had the bravery to skate out there. Her mom would have told her to continue! Skated her own way, not like the aggressive, attacking Asada-san and KYN.

Ando-san: LOVE HER but I thought she skated very slow and cautious. It's not the same SP as I've been seeing this season. Did very well, though. Also sending statements to Asada-san, KYN, and Rocket: Don't count me out.

Americans: Cool.

Caro: Once said in an article that she "warned" the Americans and the Asians to watch out for her and the Europeans. Uuuhhh... no Euro chick in the final flight. They're all skating lollerskates around her now.

Jo is more of a long program skater though... The SP is usually what holds her down a bit. I'm not going to get my hopes up for a medal for Joannie yet though. She's going through so much that the LP could go either way or somewhere in between. She will still be just as loved, supported and praised if she finishes last in the LP after a splatfest as if she medals with the skate of her life.

Oh, I had forgotten about about Akiko... yes too bad I just love her skating.

Great performances from the ladies! I'm glad Mao finally put up a great performance. Congrats to Yuna! She's got the nerves of steeel! lol She didn't look even 1% worried when she heard the score and all the cheers for Mao. I think the score difference between the two comes Yuna's 3-3 and interpretation/expression of the music. Also, Mao doing 3A super close to the boards doesn't really help her with GOE because the judges can only see the top half of her body and cannot tell if she rotated the jump or not.
